Claw has moved to where vortex was, Vortex has gone apparently.

A shame, I quite liked it, but it never seemed popular. You'd think Scorpion was closer to death than Vortex though, and would have been a better option if one had to go.

ahh shame! for sure, I way preferred vortex to scorpion. scorpion always felt like it was gonna fall apart and I havent been in about 4 years haha

used to go all the time as a kid and I'm going again next month, excited to try out the new ride - looks pretty decent for AI

  2. as others had said, I'd just love to see a complete revamp with 5, even 4 just really good and decently long mazes. one outdoor one would be fine, but I really miss the intensity of the classic indoor attractions. I'd love saw alive to go (as fun as it is), and see a different maze in there if possible. a non TWD maze in the back of X with the quality of cabin in the woods in 2014/15 would be great. I could actually imagine a revamp or vulcan being great though tbh - the concept is one of the only unique ones they've had recently, every single maze is just zombies or serial killers - thorpe should really start branching out with themes tbh.

imagine what they could do with a swarm maze, or a technology themed maze or just something different - having humans in bloody makeup screaming 'ahh' or 'help me' in your face for 3 minutes hasn't got anymore entertaining in the last 8 years lmao. they need to step it up to match towers in terms of intensity, I'd rather be pushed around a bit or have some unique scares than just being screamed at in the face by every single actor. also, keep up the levels of roaming actors - I remember in 2013 actors were literally chasing ppl through the queue of asylum and chasing after them all the way into the toilets, but every year after that I've been I've hardly even seen any actors.

I just think they need a complete revamp, new themes, less boring scares, more intensity, some decent parkwide theming and just.....make it more of an event?? rather than an average thorpe day with some shipping containers plonked near Colossus

Not sure if this was supposed to be released yet, but ThemeParks-UK has released the below article.

SPOILERS: It includes the full lineup!

From what I imagine, it sounds like Vulcan Peak maybe in I'm a celebrity?

The six new live-action scare mazes and horror zones across Thorpe Park will include AMC’s The Walking Dead: Do or Die – a macabre experience filled with nail-biting jeopardy, Vulcan Peak – an intense nightmarish tribal hell where visitors will need their most primal instincts to survive and a new and sinister version of the Blair Witch maze, situated deep in the woods of the park.

Zones populated by disturbingly real scare actors will include Terror at Amity High and Big Top Unleashed, a twist on last year’s hugely popular maze themed around unhinged clowns. There will also be terrifyingly encounters courtesy of Fanta’s evil vending machine on selected dates.

New for this year will also be Screamplexx 4D where short indie horror films will be shown. Returning favourites for the season include The Walking Dead: Living Nightmare, SAW Alive, Platform 15 and Containment.

Dominic Jones, Divisional Director at Thorpe Park:

“This is our most intense year for Fright Nights yet with more scares than ever before. With multiple new mazes and scare zones throughout the resort, literally nowhere will be safe and the season is definitely not for the faint-hearted.”

Now that makes perfect sense. When I visited, the pre-show had difficulties on two of the four rides I witnessed, both of which were at the end of the day. On the first time, the curtain was missing (revealing the surprise somewhat from the beginning), whereas the second time the curtain never rose and ruined the effect.

I'm not sure which is worse (probably the second one), but it’s a shame to have seen these malfunctions (especially as a result of guests who cannot keep their hands busy for one minute). The U.K. is perhaps one of the worser countries for guest vandalism.

I think Wickerman is a great ride for Towers and U.K., but I do worry what the state of the ride will play in years to come. Will the smoke/fire effects still be working around the Wickerman, will the pre-show still maintain that surprise element and will things like the bag room (like others before) end up disappearing. Merlin don’t have a great track record for maintaining rides and effects, just look at Smiler. I mention this only because I want the park/Merlin to get better and not to bash them for fun.

wow, so I rode it for the first time on Monday and the entire pre show was projected onto this curtain. could you post in spoiler tags what the 'surprise' element is and how the curtain rises etc? I didn't realise it was broke on my show, it was lite literally just a video projected into a curtain haha. thanks!

Lots of improvements and subtle changes made to the ride lately:

-New siren in the pre show area.

-Walkway from pre show to station is darker and more intense.

-New dispatch sequence (lights dim to near pitch darkness, plus either new audio or louder audio)

-New speakers on the lift hill

-Lots of special effects at the end of the ride (generator), with flashing lights, loud audio and air blasts.

-Even LOUDER fog horn in post show

-Changes to the exit corridor, with more stuff throughout

It's great to see lots of tweaks being made to get this right. For me, the corridor between the pre show and station is a real highlight - genuinely unnerving walking through near darkness, hearing that each area you walk through had been compromised, and all lights going out behind you.

sounds really good, I'm excited to ride it soon. is the generator post-ride or like as the carriage is going to the ending station? and what's been added to the exit corridor?

  6. okay, considering this has been going on for so long.....I'm calling a maze this year, which will either be unique or different for thorpe or even a towers type thing, where the maze happens and then leads into their next big investment....but it would make more sense if that happened in 2020. eh idk. if it as different maze, I feel like this is planned way too far in advance just to be a saw alive update; I'm guessing they'll do something more extreme (but still accessible) like sub species or the mine tours, as thorpe really seems to be lacking in anything other than traditional mazes on fright nights. they need to do something different imo for this to be exciting

It's part animatronic part costume. The "getting stuck" issue probably refers to a technical error with the rotating wall which reveals the demon.

ohh that's wild, do you know what part of the demon the actor is in? I just can't see how it's an actor or why it's an actor if the demon always does the same movement like it does in videos etc, seems pointless to me. surely if it was an actor it could do more varied movements etc to scare more people? the movements are really lifelike though tbf

The animatronic demon at the end is actually someone in an outfit :diablo:

I always thought that lmao, but it obviously isn't if it's been getting stuck after the lights come back on. I also only went on it once, I assume it does the same movement each ride so its obviously an animatronic? That's what I've heard anyway

There's potential for this to be a good experience for the scare seeking market.  X:\NWO was designed as a 1.4m attraction which had multiple sections to it, including pre and post ride experiences.  The roller coaster was only ever meant to a part of that.  By bringing in other experiences to the ride, even if it's just a pre show and special effects on the brakes, they could create something which brings the ride more in line to its first plan.  Of course, that does nothing to help the fact it reduces the family line up, but it could still be good in its own right.

I only ever went on X:NWO about twice, and this was just before it changed to it's current form, so there wasn't many pre or post ride experiences. I'm aware that there used to be fake lifts before the station, but just out of interest - what were the original pre and post ride experiences?

(also the post above me if is incredible)

  10. my guess is living nightmare extreme won't be an actual extreme FIA type thing, but will probably just be an improved and maybe scarier/more intense version of the maze. after all, they want it to get the crowds in - the majority of people would much rather a scary, intense yet normal maze rather than being thrown about in handcuffs and have fake ****e thrown all over them for 10 minutes

  11. yeah, if I remember the trains used to stop on each break run, then go back and forward a bit before carrying on. as they stopped weird noises played and there was like static dummy models with lights on them just kinda...sitting there staring at you. couldn't imagine there being much room to add theming or animatronics there though lol. I'd rather they just make a good year round maze (as stupid an idea as it is) than try to turn X into a walking dead coaster. I just really don't see how it'd work lmao

  12. in regards to the swearing, I'm more surprised none of the merlin mazes have generally used it before - especially considering the age recommendations. it's subtle but imo, when actors are swearing at you it definitely heightens the intensity of the maze tbh. glad TWD has implemented it. that pre show looks pretty incredible, I'm just confused as to what the **** is meant to be happening when the lights flash and Negan is just like 'go in.'. lol. also I could imagine it being really awful if the guy playing Negan was ****e, but that guy seemed pretty decent tbf

  13. DONT read this if you don't potentially want the ending spoiled

    but....is it true that..

the new ending is a false gift shop, where an actor / anamatronic of the demon jumps out at you from a 'stage'?

I'm only asking as some reviews earlier in this thread fail to mention this part, and it isn't on any of the pov's online. does it actually happen or did I just hear wrong?
