GeorgeeFozzy got a reaction from pluk in Hyperia - New for 2024
Was just watching Theme Park Guide's video of Trailers and noticed this in the background of one of the scenes! TP-RMC 22, could it be?! Or are they just messing with us...

Wow. Was expecting so much from this. The preshow is good, different to those seen before in this country.

The train looked quite good even though it was clearly fake. Transition straight into an underground train makes no sense. As does the whole victorian styling but the whole ride is then set in like modern London.

It's rushed getting on the carriage so you hardly have time to admire this "illusion." You have to get the VR on fast or you'll miss beginning bits. This section was decent, video quality was good and the story started to unfold a bit.

The ' live action' scene is just shouty and predictable. Have seen the effect used much better with a lower budget.

Back on with VR. Yay. The problems arise. The quality of the video drops, it's not very scary as the effect wears off fast. Then there's a boring loop section that plays as the ride system preps your vehicle for the next section. I know they are aware of this issue and it's technical rehearsals but how this part made it to this point is laughable.

Then it ends. Urm. Very unimpressed. I knew VR would be used but not THAT much. The 5 experiences are very loosely touched. It doesn't seem to flow very well. It feels like you hardly move. There's hardly any theatrics or grand illusion. The story is an odd choice.

The ride technology may be great, stunning, spectacular. Doesn't feel that when you're on it though. Which is surely more important! Not knowing how it works 100% but it's either not that stunning or Simworx severely overcomplicated things. Disney and Uni are no doubt interested in the technology, which they'll get Dynamic to make better and make a ride that uses it to it's potential.

As for spoilers. EVERYTHING gets spoilt these days. Movies, rides. Everything. Even DB's shows do get spoilt fully by some writers even though he asks them not to. Derren asks us to keep it a secret to not ruin the fun. That's fine. This is a spoiler thread, you're either here to discuss the ride or look for spoilers for some reason in which case you're just ruining it for yourself. Not a lot you can do. Don't get the difference bbetween discussing it now or when it's properly open.

Also, I know it's in softs and will go in again when it's properly open with an open mind. But there isn't much they can do in my eyes.

The public seem to love it though. Guess that's all that matters. Oh well, more VR prominent attractions. Also feel like the vive was hardly utilised to it's potential. Shame as the potential is there, as it is with a lot of this.

I did enjoy the ride slightly but it did not blow me away whatsoever.
I felt that the ride was too VR based, there needed to be some more physical experiences (which is what I was expecting as it did say 5 experiences built into one, VR counts as one experiences).

What exactly were the 5 experiences meant to be?

@cianjs posted a video almost identical to this in the Derren Brown Ghost Train topic. Whilst this Dollywood version is less relatable, I found it just as funny.

In other news, hasn't it been rumoured that LR has been running 8mph faster than intended and it has been seen at 80mph? If so, the airtime would be heavenly!

Yes the information was valued as I was not just talking about Loggers and Samurai but talking about the post as a whole. Jamie didn't just talk about these 2 rides either, this information was embedded by information that I valued.
So, why not say it? Providing extra information (even if it is known) doesn't hinder anything. Whilst it may not help it certainly doesn't hinder, so complaining about something so small is ridiculous. Hence my point that I find that on this site, certain members try and have a go at Jamie for no apparent reason.

Why do you always moan at Jamie? It's pretty pathetic. It's like you pick on him for no reason other than the fact that he's Coaster Jamie.
You're having a go at him for stating that rides are closed. Yes, we know that they are closed but what is he doing that merits members having a go at him?
Thank you Jamie, for simply informing us about which rides were closed today. You did not need to take your time to provide us with valued information, however you did. So thank you.

A couple of months ago I made a few predictions as to how busy the park would be for the rest of the year, now October is over we can look at how accurate I was.

    I predicted:

    Actual turnout

Meaning I was right on 25/31 of the days (81%) and was off by one on the remaining 6/31 days (19%). Overall Sundays were quite a bit quieter than expected, however the half term was constantly busy no matter which day you decided to visit. Based on numbers alone the 29th was the busiest day of fright nights, however it still was not as busy as the busiest days of the year, which were the 15th and 16th of July. Note that these are just numbers, and are not a 100% accurate indicator of actual crowd level. They are based on queue times which are often inaccurate, however do give a general idea of how busy the park is.

Here on one of Scruffy Dog's latest pictures you can see the 'Wheel of Fortune' that they are going to use for Brave It Alone this year. Each maze is represented by a symbol (A circus tent, a cabin, an axe, and a severed foot for The Big Top, CitW, MBV and SAW respectively)

I have to say, the way Merlin have handled this situation has been extremely professional and thoughtful. Not once have they done a Six Flags and tried to shift they blame, they have acted with the utmost integrity. Actively instructing the injured to take legal action is not something I ever thought we'd see in this country, let alone from Merlin.

Following the interview I have emailed Nick Varney praising him for being a great representative for the theme park industry during this rubbish time. I know it is the media's job to scaremonger, get attention and exaggerate, but the interviewer seemed to come from the point of view that any ride that takes the tiniest, minimalised risk in order to entertain millions of people should be shut down.

This woman tried to trash the industry I grew up with and that I know so many people enjoy. That kind of interviewing will only perpetuate the misinformation and totally unfounded Claim Culture that unfortunately surrounds theme parks. I'm not angry because its what I expect from Sky News, but it's so irritating and undermining to be honest.

    The short answer is no.

The long answer is no, and here's why:

Apologises for the crude diagram, but here's the farm in (more or less) it's current state.

The green line shows, to the best of my memory, the perimeter of the Farm in the last couple of years before its closure (though I think it used to be larger?).  First things first; there's now a school there!    Part of Thorpe working closely with the community, etc.  So any new developments over there would lead to the moving of a school.

The blue line circle / box shows roughly where the train tracks / station were.  Part of the infilling of the new islands meant that some parts of the Farm were used for 'relief' essentially, and were flooded.  So the old train route literally does not exist any more!  You can see similar relief next to the yellow circle (which used to be where the water jetties picked up from I think?)

The red circle shows the barn that's being replaced (so it wasn't even something that used to be accessible).  Essentially, it's an old barn that had seen better days, and had suffered damage (fire, weather, a vehicle bashed into it...,etc.).  Thorpe still use parts of the Farm area for storage and other things I believe, and were of course worried that it was unsafe to staff who would be in the area, and to the public (since it's close to a main-ish road).  It was beyond repair and just needed replacing really - nothing exciting unfortunately!
Some pictures of the barn in its old state, if you're curious:

*Pictures taken from the plans about replacing the Barn)

(As a side note, it was kind of weird seeing how much the Farm had changed from an aerial perspective.  Hadn't Google-mapped Thorpe in ages, and now it's just mad me a little bit sad )

    ---

Bringing this back to the topic of CCR...  I don't think it would ever be extended back to Thorpe Farm (there's no need for it to), and I couldn't really see it being extended to go round the park more - it would take up a lot of space, and the park just isn't that big enough to warrant it in my eyes.  I would still love to see it return and do a short loop, add in a bit of theming / interactivity.  It doesn't have to be anything big or special, but brining it back would be a nice little thing to help mix the day up!
