Really looking forward to this :D

So once discount/no discount is confirmed, we just call up ourselves and book it, rather than online - even if we pay the full £50? As you can't specify which ride when booked online. I'm guessing it's a separate number for the park directly and not the general booking line?

Thorpe have said now because of the small numbers we will be able to pay on the day, so at some point before the experience we will just have to drop into a fast track booth to pay.

I guess the final thing for me to say to you all is our meeting place and time for the meet, we'll meet at 9:30-10 by the annual pass entrance! :D

  2. Hey guys,

So as so far I've only had five people come up and say they can go straight out, I'm going to assume we won't hit the 30 people number and therefore this meet will cost anyone doing the BTS the full £50.

I have taken a note of the original interested list and aim to message everyone personally to get an answer, but ideally I'd like to know definite final numbers by Thursday.

As for paying for it, payment is needed in advance of the day, so if you intend to do the extras of this meet you will need to ring up and book it yourself by the latest on Saturday. Please wait until after Thursday to do this though just in case we do manage to get some kind of discount! :D

  3. Hello everyone, an update on this meet.

Unfortunately when going on to Dreamland's website to look at tickets for Saturday, the park has decided that it's closed for a private function that day, which wasn't on there when I originally looked at the dates for this meet. :(

Due to this, we will have to cancel this meet for now, I hope to reschedule it for some point next year!

    Is this even still happening?

This is still happening, I am just waiting for people to let me know if they can make it or not, as very few have done so so far and as you can tell, numbers are quite an important thing for me to know for this event.

Will we be paying for this over this site? Or will we just give the money in on the day?

As for paying for it, I have sent an email asking about how we will be expected to pay for it and am waiting for a reply :)

Didn't Smiler used to have five?

I'm guessing since the incident they've only been able to replace one of the trains.

if the throughput is 700 typically, it's still doing a better job than Galactica which struggles getting 600 PPH on a good day.

Yeah it did. I think the idea was get one more train as quickly as possible in case they need to run it in busy season, and maybe order another one after when budget allows?

Also I dont get this whole thing about Galactica's throughput being so destroyed, whenever I've been (like three times since its opened and I've ridden it multiple times each visit) there's been barely any stacking on three trains (if any at all) and a lot of the time they're actually getting it out faster than needed and its had to slow on the lift hill.

What happens if stealth is still shut?

If Stealth remains closed I will speak to the VIP team, we should be able to reschedule until next season if people are still interested in the BST :)

Also @Mer, I've seen photos from lots of BSTs online these days, but they may still be funny around the Stealth launch room and technical elements so we'll have to ask on the day :D

They've been there since last Monday I'm pretty sure.

Okay, I haven't been to Towers since June so I don't know. They were posted on TowersStreet's Facebook an hour before I put them here

After watching the pov, I have to say that I never noticed the monster shadow in the smoke in the middle section or was this just additional for the press night?

It has been there not just on press night. I wasn't even there press night and have seen it, but it isn't the clearest effect in the world

^ with the greatest of respect I'm sure this was considered by both Thorpe and HTC during the planning of the ride.

We don't even know the issue was the VR headset it's self - if it was VR related it could also be any number of things rather than just the physical headset.

Even if this down time isn't specifically because of the headsets though, they have still had their fair share of issues

I can't remember the launch cable being changed last year. Was it changed? I probably just didn't notice.

Usually gets done once during season (usually the week after school trips week to make sure it survives the rest of the season) as well as during off season, especially since one of this style of coaster (think it was Rita?) had an incident a few years back where the cable snapped

  11. Yup, as Ryan said it is Sunday 24th and the poll is now closed! Seems I mssed a lot in my week away!

As of the two tied dates in the lead the 25th of September is the one furthest away to allow people to plan for it, that will be the date of this meet! So just get confirming your attendance now everyone! :D

Restating prices again, if we get 30 people attending this meet, the price for the VIP experience will be £35, if we get 40 people the price will be £30, etc. On top of that, if you also need a park ticket I can request these from the park for an additional £25, which is ever so slightly cheaper than if you order them online in advance; however I will need to know if you need one more than two days in advance :)

  12. I know the VR image you see depends on where you are relative to the train carriage at certain points, for example during a certain scene if you lean forward and look up (let's call what you see 'scenery') the layers of scenery move relative to each other to make sure the angles are correct (so the parallax changes) in the manner of how when you move closer to the window of a car you can see higher up the buildings outside than you could it you were further away. I feel like I haven't explained this very well, but yeah, you're definitely not just watching one video, the perception will change if you move at certain points.

Another point of interest is I'm beginning to wonder if these 12 different experiences and 2 different endings that are supposedly offered by the attraction are actually being used. I've ridden this 6 times now and I've had the same first half with only 2 different people and the same ending every time. If you look at the behind the scenes footage broadcast by the BBC a few weeks ago, it showed more characters, different creatures and different speech to before. Have these been scrapped due to technical difficulties with the content during the 8 week delay period or are they not rolling it out just yet?

Without them being used, it's literally the same thing every time you ride now, the only difference is you either get a woman or a man on the train with you in the first half of the VR experience.

We rode twice during technical rehearsals and we definitely came off wondering as we'd all seen very similar bar the change in people, wether Thorpe had been entirely truthful with the "12 different stories" line, maybe there aren't 12 stories at all but just 12 different variations on the people. There are definitely more than just two variations on the first bit, and it made us wonder why have so many variations of just one story line... :(

  14. @cianjs, @MilesK, It's not that complicated or baffling, think of it as a flat triangular coaster (not necessarily on coaster track) with three block brakes that the carriages stop at at the three corners. One is load. One is the live action scene, the other is a motion platform that happens during the second VR sequence. The carriages move in between them at the same time, hence why when there's a delay at the loading station there's a loop that plays in the second sequence that people would have seen during the last week of technical rehearsals.

Hmm, do I recall that originally £20 was the possible price of this, so that is a considerable increase towards a full price. For that I want a printed reflective vest for keeps! Happy Tenth!

The price I was originally quoted was around £20 depending on numbers, and I decided it would be best to let people know what kind of price we were talking about as soon as possible back when I was just gathering interest. However when in conversation with the VIP team the figures stated by them were the ones I have just posted above. I'm sorry but that was out of my hands I'm afraid, but it is still a discount of almost 30% on the normal price!

  16. Hi everyone! :D Bit of an update on this all.

Firstly, the poll is up so get voting for your preferred date!

Secondly, I have spent the last few weeks chatting with the VIP team, and here is what we're looking at for the price. The larger the group the cheaper it will be, if we get 30 people it'll be £35 each instead of the usual £50, if we get 40 people it will be £30, etc. We would have to do the BST in groups of 10 throughout the day due to the size of the backstage areas. The tour itself will consist of:

    • Welcome from VIP host
    • Resort history
    • Ride theming and concepts
    • Staff codes and hand signals
    • Stealth launch room
    • Braking system
    • Transfer track

There is also the possibility of keeping the ride open for an extra 15-30 minutes for us at the end of the day. Again, this depends on numbers.

I know the cost may be a bit much for some, but anyone who has done a VIP experience will know how great they are and well worth the money, so any form of discount is a huge bonus! With dates looming, the poll will close on Sunday 24th July as I'm away for a week from the 16th.

Get voting, and those that have been there before start persuading any unsure members that it is definitely worth the price! :D
