  1. So the 11th attraction the park teased earlier this year has been removed.

I think this makes a lot of sense considering the whole pandemic. The farm also opened a fairly busy drive through shop which probably means they really don't have time to plan and build another attraction.  I honestly am kinda relieved as getting all 10 attractions done in one night was difficult as it was!

In other news the park have received quite a few SCAR nominations, quite a bit more than in previous years.

Wastelands has been nominated for bet set and design and best halloween maze, coven's fire finale has been nominated for best scene, and they also have a nomination for having the best street team and entertainment.

  2. Got to love Vampire. Honestly riding Iron Dragon at CP made me really appreciate just how good Vampire is.

Despite the outrage over what hasn't and has been done to the station, I enjoyed the upgrades on my last visit.

It is not a Europa style refurb, it is not the same as it was back in 1990.. But its still decent and I think people perhaps are getting a bit nit-picky. Look at Swarm's Station (a 8 year old coaster)..

  3. Here's the must dos in my opinion:

    Wildfire

    Untamed

    Zadra

I think the Americans will wanna see how our RMC's compare to theirs. Zadra and Wildfire probably put up a fight with Steel Vengeance too (probably not as good though..)

    Taron

    Taiga

    ISpeed

Maverick is considered a top tier ride over there so people will probably have interest in the other blitz coasters

    Black Mamba

    Nemesis

    Oziris

Well themed inverts with good interaction with the terrain/tunnels. I think these inverts are really something different from the ones in the US (bar Montu)

    Smiler

    Karnan

    Fluch Von Novgorod

Proof that Gerstlauer are actually good (well, just don't ask Six Flags that..)

    Expedition Geforce

    Shambhala

    Helix

    Piraten

    Lech Coaster

    Balder

    Colossus (Heide Park)

    Just good rides

All of the coasters at Europa Park/EP in general

Not the best coaster collection or the best coasters, but the theming and atmosphere is something that has to be experienced. Especially Arthur, that thing slaps.

If Baco got better restraints maybe it would be on here, or if Red Force didn't have a shaky a*** launch, whats with Portaventura and rough intamins?

Also didn't want to put Stealth or Wickerman on here as both are kinda nothing too special when compared to their american counterparts.

Flu is well understood within reason and there are various measures in place to prevent it.

That is exactly why the Corona Virus is so out of our hands. There is minimal ways to minimise it, those who try to contain it have only spread it more.

I'd rather get on with my life and not lock myself away for a month after raiding the loo roll isle at Lidl. The only thing you can do really is keep away from people when you're ill, obvious.

Even when it was less serious the news and papers have hammered on and on about the virus, it is no surprise some people are stockpiling pasta and bog roll.

You literally turn the news on and 80% is about the virus, its literally a drinking game at this point every time they mention it.

I hate Boris with passion and honestly I like the way he has handled it, just keep calm and carry on. Its a nasty virus, not the apocalypse.

Legoland gonna be getting all those kids with underdeveloped immune systems right under the bus then.

Children have been said to be at the absolute lowest risk though.. Not many young folks have died from the virus, actually the current number for the age range 0-9 is 0. And 10-19 is a very low death rate. Young people are not the worry here.

Honestly I like the UK approach, I find the current media coverage to be somewhat drastic and melodramatic. People mass buying crap and self isolating themselves are just perhaps a little too easily influenced by the current media brainwashing them. It is a nasty virus and some people are going to die, but there is many other things such as cancer, heart problems, or even the Flu itself which kills tons of people a year but I don't see anyone locking themselves in a room crying over it? There is more chance of crashing your car on the way to the parks that catching the corona virus.. But you still drive cars don't you?

  6. Yeah if the queues are bad now, imagine how bad they would be if they full in depth checked every guest if they were worthy of the pass, it would take ages and would slow things even further. I think the only thing Thorpe can do is enforce things better, even with that some fake doctors note will slip through. They will always be fraud and abuse of the system.

Having medical staff on hand is great on paper, but imagine how long it would take to examine each person who wanted a RAP (somewhere in the 100's range on busy days..)

That looks wrong to me. Surely with water that rough rounding a bend the opposite channel should have a much higher side to prevent the raft riding up on to it causing a capsize risk? Seems mental to me to attempt a raft ride of all thing in house, rather than use the expertise of a big manufacturer.

I think it'll be fine, they built Blazing Fury at their sister park down the road just fine. They are not new to in-house stuff.

It also I guess would save some money, and it isn't like Intamin have the best record ATM with their raft rides.. Infinity Falls looks brilliant but honestly after all the problems I could see why you would just wanna avoid using them.

  8. Yeah I think Merlin are in a bit of a corner with the RAP. The system sucks, but even when enforced properly it would still be abused and flawed. They can't really win, we live in a culture where its the norm. Even some of my 'suggestions' to improve the system would honestly just open more cans of worms (like making it blue badge only for example). I think no matter what Thorpe do with the RAP it will be flawed.

Still a month till park opening, anything can happen.

As JoshC said above, we would of seen planning permits by now.. Or some sight of construction.. Thorpe can't just pull a new ride out of their ar** for March.

  10. Maybe they are referring to Alton/Legoland/Chessie (parks that are actually getting something decent this year?)

If Thorpe were getting anything at all we probably would of heard about it by now. Unless they were referring to the shameless aroma prime advert?

Sure, Hellements is one of the better versions of a hooded maze, but it's still weak.

Hellements was the first though, it created the hooded element. I think you have to give credit to Tulleys for basically creating a whole new type of maze, hooded mazes wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Tulleys debuting Hellements back in 2011.

    IVolt lasted one(?) year.

This is true, The Volt was somewhat of a failed experiment. Though it was completely unlike any other maze (bar The Dark at The Howl). Most events wouldn't mess around with crazy ideas like Tulleys did back in 2015.

Wastelands uses an idea which has been present in mainstream mazes

True, though honestly I wouldn't call Wastelands 'run of the mil'. The theming in the maze, in the queue, and the immersive area and show around it is on a such epic scale. Wastelands theming is things most scare events could only dream of having..

I'm not saying they have tried to be innovative or have some differences. But aside from Hayride and Vixi, their mazes are very standard, run of the mill attractions. Some are done well and have cool features. But that's not enough to put them in contention with some of the best Halloween events in Europe...in my opinion at least!

I think there is so much you could do to innovate in the scare industry, at the end of the day if a maze is scares someone or at least entertains them, its done its job.

I think you could call mazes from any event 'run of the mill', most scare events have a walk through that has actors jumping out at you, that is just part of the formula.

Best is obviously subjective, but they're a long way off being up there with the best in Europe imo. There's only so much you can do with 'long maze where actors jump out at points throughout' concept.

I think they have been innovative in the past 10 years or so. Hellements to my knowledge was the first of its kind back in 2011, Chop Shop used a trope and put a cool twist on it, Coven's opening section is clever, The Volt literally used electric shocks, and Wastelands uses segregation which is a first for Tulleys.

I think Tulleys have been straying away from that recently. Wastelands and Wreckoning are both mazes where actors can talk and be interactive, I think the real offender would be every maze have growling zombie like creatures as the characters. Twisted is long maze where actors jump out, but the ability for actors to make jokes and interact makes it more than just a maze where people make you jump. Hayride is also a massive antithetical attraction to this, Its a immersive experience full of humour, theming, effects, and Madonna.

To be fair the 11th attraction doesn't have to be a maze, it could be a show, it could be a escape room, it could be anything really.

  13. I guess it makes sense, its hard to do 11 attractions, so any repeats would be difficult anyway. So it will affect queues probably very minimally.

    10 hours ago, JoshC. said:

At some point, though, you have to wonder if Tulleys are expanding too much. Should an 11th attraction have been a priority now? Arguably not.

This is a good question, personally I like the expansion. I think Tulleys are really leading the industry forward in this country, and they have been doing so since 2009.

I think Tulleys are really trying to establish themselves as the 'best of the best', the biggest, the Halloween Horror Nights of Europe. It obviously must be doing something good for them if we are seeing even more expansion after last year.

  14. I guess it depends on the maze. Haunts such as Hayride or Wastelands will suffer, but mazes such as Cellar or Cottage honestly won't be affected at all but this as they don't tend to get  a queue anyway!

Cellar seems to get a tad forgotten about until the final hour or two and cottage really never seems to get a queue, some people going through those mazes twice or more honestly won't affect it too bad. I also think during the quieter nights it won't be too bad as the queues are very mild anyway. I went on one of the busiest nights and the largest queue was a hour. The event during the first operating hour and the final operating hour is also very quiet too, with smart planning you can avoid those bad queues.

I really hope they limit re-runs for other guests on the more busier attractions as that could certainly prove hetic, though for mazes such as Cellar or Cottage, or even Twisted to a certain degree, it shouldn't be too much of a issue.

If it does turn out to be a bad idea, Tulleys will probably revert it back anyway. They've run the event so efficiently the last two decades, I would be surprised if they would let their current standards drop.

Disney also don't really cross money across sections. Money made on the film side of things doesn't cross over into the theme parks and cover that sector if it makes less.

Even just the parks alone are literally the most attended and profitable parks on the earth. I'm sure one park going under for a month or two won't hurt too much in the long run, Disney literally own the monoply board when it comes to attendance and profit. Like the nearest chain is Merlin, which really wouldn't even be relevant if it wasn't for the Legolands..

  16. This could certainly be difficult for the parks but I think the Disney parks will be just fine considering Disney is a absolute cash cow.

For other parks like Ocean Park it might be more devastating as those parks don't have the abundance of cash to fall back on like Disney has. I guess January/February is probably a more quiet time of year luckily. It would be much worse if it was like July/August.

Given the pleasure beach financial figures coupled with how expensive Valhalla is to run, I honestly would not have blamed them if they just cut their losses and did away with it altogether. It would be a shame to lose it but buisness wise it would make sense. Lower ridership for it goes against it too considering it only ever gets major queues on baking hot days which is hardly ever taken into account this is Blackpool we are dealing with.

Seconded. Valhalla was/is a brilliant attraction though a huge liability to a park that probably cannot keep up with the high running costs that Valhalla demands.

Even better bring back the Freezer.

I loved Asylum though honestly bringing back Freezer/Asylum would honestly be kind of a questionable move IMO. Freezer/Asylum was a very simple maze, literally just mirrors, strobes, and some barbed wire. They could easily incorporate the core elements of the classic maze into a new attraction, look at Creek Freak and Big Top, these mazes took what Asylum did and then built on it. I would much prefer something like Studio 13 to return, simply because it was much more unique and complex than Freezer/Asylum.
