I’ve gotta say - despite the seemingly average nature of the ride itself - the theming looks brilliant. A step up from past works, such as the theming found inside GT. They’ve clearly paid a great amount of attention to the tiny details throughout in order to improve it on a grand scale. I look forward to riding this at the weekend.

Matt that is a beautifully written post - Roodie never realised how well liked he was - he had low self confidence which I think he disguised with humour - when he was in hospital I showed him the lovely things that you kind people had said and I know he was touched by the donations that people made.

It is hard now knowing he won’t get a chance to make some memories with his 2 boys and it’s heart breaking that they have lost their father.  But the donations made will go directly to his boys.

He was a lovely guy and would do anything for anyone and was completely selfless - he handled his diagnosis with both dignity and bravery and I feel privileged to have got to know him well.  39 is such a young age to pass away.

I wish I was able to write such a lovely post as Matt has but emotions take over and make it difficult but I want to thank you all who met him - he really enjoyed the meets and getting to know people and just having a nice time with people who have similar interests.  He felt accepted very early on within the community which is what it’s all about.  Xx

Deeply saddened upon hearing of Roodie’s passing. Thoughts go out to his family and closest of friends.

I only met him a few times during meets, but he was lovely down to earth guy, who was extremely friendly. He wasn’t one for running round hitting checklists or the first there, but one to simply just take in and enjoy the parks with the company amongst him.

Roodie’s premature departure certainly puts things into perspective to try and appreciate life more, regardless of how good or bad things in our lives seem to be. Whether that be a trip/holiday being delayed or cancelled, not landing your dream job or moments where seems to going to plan. The last time time I knowingly saw him was leaving for the car park at Chessington after an exciting meal and visit to the park. Little did I know at the time that would be the last time I saw him.

He may have only been active in the community for just over a year, but certainly left a lasting impression. As long as we can continue to enjoy these wonderful meets and socials. Amongst remembering the good times of those Roodie attended, his spirit can definitely live on.

Roodie May be gone, but he is definitely not forgotten.

Thanks for reading and I apologise if this is too much for anyone.

My thoughts precisely, Mark. It could also potentially be Containment returning year round with the addition of AR? I recall that being rumoured not so long ago.

The American Horror Story rumours did actually have a base to them but agreements were left too late  therefore meaning we were given 2 walking dead mazes.

This year's Fright Nights has really impressed me! I didn't find any of the mazes bad at all last night, although there is room for improvement!

Big Top - 9/10 - I didn't think that last year could get any better, but I was so wrong! The strobe maze was so disorientating, I got lost on all of my runs in it! I love all of the new rooms that they've got this year too! The actors were excellent too! Definitely the best attraction of the night!

Saw Alive - 8/10 - I've never seen Saw as good as it was yesterday. Yes, it is essentially the same, but a fantastic cast makes this maze one of the best!

Platform 15 - 7/10 -  Wow! What an improvement on last year! Ignoring the black tunnel, this maze is 1000x better! The village scene in the middle is beautiful and the definite highlight of the maze!

Living Nightmare - 7/10 - There is potential for a great maze here. The theming is immaculate, but the whole thing is over within about 2 and a half minutes. Definitely needs more actors in the first half too!

Sanctum - 6/10 - The weakest maze of the night by far. It's a real shame that you don't go inside the shipping containers; a couple of indoor sections would've been nice. As with LN, it's too short, but I did still enjoy it.

I feel sorry for anyone who has to go to media night, since they'll have to be near some arrogant enthusiasts who think they're special since they get to go to a theme park a day earlier...

If you were to keep the outdoor section the same, but give the tunnel a bit more theming/themed lighting, hiding places for actors and a better finale, it'd be half decent. No more, no less. I don't expect a change alike Big Top '15 - '16, there's only so much you can do with such a naff attraction.

FINALLY got to ride Derren Brown  ride Ghost Train today, having read and heard very little since its original construction. Overall it unfortunately seemed like a missed opportunity, but my take-aways were:
Even if it's a slow start to the ride, the "illusion" angle of the preshow is infinitely more interesting than the generic horror-fest that the rest of the ride becomes. Brown picking up one of the trains was also the only "how did they do that?" moment of the ride besides the carriage, proving that sometimes the simplest effects and tricks can be as involving as bombastic action, or more so. Interior theming was up to a decent standard. The delivery of information was too delayed. Entering a train station to witness Brown's illusion is fine, as is seeing a suspended Victorian carriage following this, but why are we suddenly in an Underground carriage? And now that I've put on the headset (again, why?), who are "Sub Core", and what do they have to do with anything that has preceded this? All of this is eventually answered but the plot feels irritatingly vague and meandering in the meantime, and not for tension-building reasons. As I previously mentioned, the "horror" didn't work for me at all. There wasn't any subtlety to its use - the only point at which my imagination could have played with my expectations was when the smoke/demons/whatever fill the tunnel, and even then you feel so distant from it thanks to the relatively bright lighting in the room and the actors taking the foreground. I don't feel I need to go into why cartoon demons walking up and down the carriage and a little girl screaming at you lack subtlety, especially when the carriage is so starkly lit in the former case, and the less said about that bonkers, "how do we end this?!" finale the better... The ride gives us another example of VR being used as far too vital a technological component than should be relied upon in a ride. A broken effect means you risk shattering the illusion, broken VR means you've lost the ride. On the second section of my first ride I had to keep wiggling the cable to get (some) audio, and on my second ride I got to experience a set where I had to look away to hear the character and one which didn't stay on my head and kept resetting to the neutral position. VR is an interesting technology, but don't implement it into theme parks until you can guarantee that it won't be a constant problem. The gift shop trick was neat, it reminded me of some kind of Twilight Zone-esque "something's not right" moment the first time, but on repeat rides it loses its novelty.  On the whole, it's less an attraction that I'd alter to correct, and more one that I'd start from scratch. It's very clear that someone decided Brown's approach to an attraction might be too conservative and that the target audience for the park expect obnoxious scares, and hastily retooled an illusion concept into a bizarre attempt at horror. That being said, it isn't horrendous - a couple of neat illusions, some good theming inside, one or two surprises - but it's unfortunate that so much hype and expenditure went into something that turned out so confused.

    Death Note...

If we can't respect the source material at all, why are we making a live action version of one of the best anime shows ever?

None of the important plot points from the anime were used, only one character even resembled what he should have been like, and I'm talking about the way he acts, not the way he looks, I wasn't even remotely bothered about that.

I'm not angry, just very, very disappointed.

Nah, pretty sure we were watching the same film. It's just that you have bad taste.

If you're willing to overate Annabelle: Creation, yet underate both It Comes At Night & The Witch - two of the best horrors to come out in recent years - your opinion is no longer an opinion. It's a crime.
A:C began with a decent premise/set-up, and left me excited for the scares to come in the following hour or so. Patiently, I waited and waited, but unfortunately, these "scares" never arrived. Alternatively, we had thrown at us a disjointed, cliche-ridden mess of a script where somewhere down the line the concept of "suspense" was lost. Jumpscare after jumpscare, to the point it felt tedious. These unnecessary series of events ruined the flow of the film entirely, making for a boring and pacless watch. The longer the film played out, the more it lost direction of itself. If that's what you mean by  "a good old haunted house film", you're in the right place

For a comedy though, it's alright (I.e I WANT YOUR SOUL)
