I genuinely can't understand who thought this ride was a good idea.
It doesn't appeal to standard Chessington goers (too tall a height restriction despite not really being a very "thrilling" ride).
It takes away from their neighbour park's claim of "Only UK Wing rider coaster".
It will likely have an extremely bad throughput.
It's a B&M so will have an extremely expensive initial cost.
It's a B&M Wing Rider so will probably be quite slow through the elements as well.
The layout is already shown to be far too short.

The only positive (and even then, slightly) thing that can be said is the likely IP, whilst extremely outdated, at least fits Chessington and isn't completely random (I think everyone at this point knows it's going to be Jumanji).
Me, personally, I would have have put a Vekoma Suspended Family Coaster or something that can accommodate a much wider range of people (height restriction-wise) whilst filling the need for Chessington to have something slightly more thrilling than their standard line-up.

This must be one of the few rides in the world where there is a unanimous hate towards it because it just doesn't fit. If I were Merlin I'd go back to the drawing board for this one because it will be such a waste of space and money if they plough through with it.

Merlin are just trying to bog down their opponents with paperwork to delay them whilst they build their own 2023-2024 attractions. I don't think they expect their attempt at this to be successful however considering the government has taken an interest in it.

From an engineering perspective it is likely to be mandated that the structure survives 25 years. Where the pieces of track are deemed replaceable. Non replaceable parts will be designed for atleast 50.

Fatigue issues in steel start occuring at 2x10^6 load cycles which rollercoasters will start hitting around 25-30 years old. So if we assume 240 operating days a year at 8 hours. In that time lets assume perfect capacity for nemesis of 37.5 dispatches an hour. It would result in a lifespan of 27.7 years.

    Time to hit 2,000,000 cycles.
    Colossus - 24y
    Nemesis Inferno -29y
    Stealth - 19y
    Saw - 21y*

You can design for more cycles. The eurocodes permit allowances up to 5x10^6 but it requires the stresses in the steel to be low. Saw can probably get away with that hence it not being 8 years. I cant be bothered to work out allowable cycle ranges so for saw I assumed the maximum and the other coasters the minimum.

Basically Thorpe park would have an expensive few years coming up if you couldn't extend lifespan in other ways. It would just come down to is it worth extending. Unfortunately for Colossus I think the answer is no.

Best POVs from coasters in the planning stages always come from Amusement Insider (imo) and they tend to be fairly accurate to when they're finally built, so without further ado the best POV based on the current plans.

Saw and Colossus are absolutely dwarfed by this thing in all the renderings of Exodus. I wonder how many people are going to go on this thing first, and then be absolutely disappointed by the older coasters afterwards. Even just visually, Saw looks like a children's ride in front of this thing.
In all honesty, I hope this paves the way for bigger and faster coasters in the UK like the ones our cousins in America enjoy.

Yeah but Brewdog are a terrible company.

It's weird because there's so much good street art in cities across the country and Thorpe end up with that. It's so random and weird whereas if they'd kept to the actual ride logos (strengthening their own branding) then it would automatically look better.

That looks like someone's GCSE art project that they did the night before the deadline. Down to the S symbol and Word Art.

I think the audio is to make it more upbeat for the Park Vibes event. They'll probably change it back after the event or for FN but for what it's worth I prefer the new soundtrack.
I also think that for the type of park Thorpe is it's much more suited to its target audience and the park as opposed to say Universal or Disney where you're going for 100% immersion into the theme of the area. Honestly the ride could be themed to Toy Story and the target audience wouldn't give more than a minutes thought to the theme.
People visit for the ride, not the theme so 100% cohesive theming isn't a necessity and making a doom and gloom ride slightly less doom and gloom is always a good vibe for a park which is 50% themed to doom and gloom.

This is what I feared was the case.

I also think that last year the maximum capacity was significantly lower at first, and slowly climbed up. Not sure whether this year's capacity is the same as the highest capacity we saw last year, but in any case, I don't think we ever saw the park 'full' last year either?

It's a massive shot in the foot for the park. And as said earlier, I think the parks now need to take stock and either reduce capacity of their parks or increase ride capacity again. They simply cannot carry on in their current form imo

Well I've found quite a few control panels over the internet. Just didn't know TPM had a thread for this! Hopefully some new ones for those of you interested in this stuff. There's mainly Thorpe Park stuff but also ones from fairground equivalents and also some that aren't from Thorpe Park.

Please note some of the pictures are from previous posts within this very thread that I've re-uploaded due to the fact certain other pictures have been deleted and so those pictures don't share the same fate. My other intention is to create a comprehensive guide within this one post for Thorpe Park ride control panels. Some new pictures have also been added to give a different view of the control panel.

I don't know how to operate these so if anyone is willing to share that'd be great!

Rage Control Panel (a Gerstlauer Eurofighter which is the same model as Saw:TR)

However I've actually seen Saw's control panel (can't remember where) but it looks very VERY similar to this more modern look than the above image:

The differences above to Saw's are the top left button (next to key) is yellow on Saw. Also, where there are 2 green buttons in the bottom centre, on Saw's panel there are 5 green buttons (I'm guessing because there are 2 load/ 2 unload stations and 1 spare button). The Allen Bradley display obviously shows Saw ride-related information.

Also interesting to note that this review also says on their BTS tour that the reason The Swarm backwards was removed was that in a potential crash this would have unthinkable consequences for the park so they removed it (which does make sense that it was removed for the season after The Smiler occured).

Also potentially of interest is how the glow is made on Nemesis Inferno in the tunnel - it uses way more lights than I thought it did:

Rage Control Panel (a Gerstlauer Eurofighter which is the same model as Saw:TR)

However I've actually seen Saw's control panel (can't remember where) but it looks very VERY similar to this more modern look than the above image:
(below is control panel for a Belantis Eurofighter. source: http://www.coastersandmore.de/previews/belantis/belantis.shtml)

"Tidal Wave" at Adventure Island (I'm guessing has a similar control panel to Depth Charge at Thorpe Park seeing as they're both raft slide rides):

Source for above 2 pictures were from this thread but unviewable. Luckily the "Wayback" machine somehow retrieved them: https://web.archive.org/web/20200116233837/https://forum.maniahub.com/topic/6156-control-panels/page/1

This ride operates from the platform when open at Linnanmaki but in the absence of the actual control panel at Thorpe this is the closest I can get to it. Look into the control box of TWD:TR (from RCDB copyright Nic Jenkins) when it was formerly known as X:\ No Way Out:

    Quantum

I will edit this post/ make a new one as I find more rides. Hopefully @StevenVig can repost his old Saw photos so we can cross that one off the list.
If you're interested in control panels and also programming and PLC logic I recommend checking out Irvine Ondrey Engineering: https://www.facebook.com/IrvineOndreyEngineering
They have very informative posts about programming control panels and they're the ones who did The Swarm control panel amongst a huge range of other very popular and large rides.

You know you’re digging beyond the bottom of the barrel when a multi-billion quid company thinks (presumably) splashing a 33-year old kids ride with rainbow-coloured tartan paint is enough to call it a “first-ever”...

But what's the point when most people won't plan trips this early? How many people do we expect have planned their trip to Thorpe Park now? Especially at a point when their 2020 offering hasn't been announced. I bet I can count the number on one hand. Thorpe simply isn't big enough to attract enough attention for people to book their trips now.

And still, why advertise provisional hours? Why not just 'Open' or 'Closed'?

The park is doing five 10-8pm days for Fright Nights. Even taking into account the extra budget required to run Fright Nights, that can't equate to more than 2 extra open days. And if that's what they have done, there's also the added benefit of the fact that the park simply isn't busy enough to warrant being open for 12 hours on those days. And it still doesn't answer why they choose to close earlier rather than open later.
Based on the past 2-3 seasons, this is something they have consistently gotten wrong. The park have chosen days to open for longer on days where they couldn't justify it. They've not advertised their longer opening properly, nor have they given people a proper reason to stay.

My favourite example comes from 2018, where the park decided to open 10-10 instead of 10-6 on a Saturday in May 4 days in advance. This is despite the weather forecasting heavy rain all day AND there being a low pre-book. And low and behold, the day was a disaster.

I get there's no exact science to this, but Thorpe consistently get this wrong lately, when 95% of parks get this right. That's a big problem.

I don't see why this is being treated as a negative? Not every park has to have a Top 10 worthy coaster...
Honestly, this is one of the most spoilt comments I've seen with regards to theme parks. "Thorpe ONLY has 2 B&Ms, 2 Intamins and a Gerstlauer, it's not complete". So many parks would kill to have that sort of line up.  (NB: Saw doesn't have a clone, just a ride which has inspired it, and the other two were firsts of their exact layouts...).

Saying Towers has 3 elite coasters is very much a stretch too..
This is the big issue, yes. And they do need to add and improve. But that doesn't really detract from the fact that the park already have a solid basis with some good coasters.
Again: why is this an issue?

I'll travel for a Wacky Worm in the arse end of France, so not sure where this enthusiast elitism is coming from? Half the guests probably won't know about Cedar Point and the like, does it really detract from their personal enjoyment? I mean the most liked ride by guests at PA is Baco! And 90% of us know that's wrong...

Thorpe (and Merlin parks as a whole) have remained pretty stationary over the years in the last decade that's true, but mostly through have consistent expansion the year before and some mismanagement... Several parks in Europe especially have taken advantage of not having much prior to this decade and going "right, this Gerstlauer is cheap but is interesting, let's buy that as our new signature ride", much like Bobbie Jobbie and Walibi Alpes have done...

On the other side the likes of Walibi Holland and Phantasialand already had a strong base to begin with, though Phantasialand was more about complete redevelopment of existing areas of the park... Walibi have just chosen two fantastic rides to compliment their pre-existing icon that is Goliath (though Untamed might become the new one)...

There's many things to dislike Thorpe for but the ride lineup isn't one of them... Think a lot of this is the realisation that the UK parks have sat still whilst the world adds a higher quality of ride comparatively...
