James_C Posted August 17, 2013 Report Share Posted August 17, 2013 I was quite shocked to see that there was no topic for the East Coasts finest fun fair/theme park. I go there every year and it is one of those theme parks that although there is nothing of major thrill...it is never really boring. The wooden rollercoaster is a real experience and I would recommend going there purely to try this out! Apparently they have added a new rollercoaster this year...a family spinning wild mouse although I have seen no photos or publicity of this... tomathy Posted August 17, 2013 Report Share Posted August 17, 2013 I rode the Family Star coaster a couple of weeks ago and can vouch for it being a "lumbering turd". The wooden coaster however is a classic woodie, one of very few side friction coasters remaining and still runs with a brakeman on board.Whilst there is nothing exceptional at the park there are very few queues and a great Fun House attraction with blacklights, 3D effects and the good old moving floors. Well worth a visit for a few hours if anyone is ever in the area, me and my family always seem to get out there once a year and still enjoy it. Also enjoy Mulan (or whatever it's called) which goes at quite a speed and has the little canopy that comes over the top, but that's about it for me there. I thought it would finally be a coaster which some of the other seaside fairs have like Klondike at Hayling Island or the eurofighter at Adventure Island. Riding the Snails and the Mountain Tubs up at Joyland are some of the best early childhood memories that I have. Regards the new coaster, I went on a similar one at Skegness, and it was the biggest heap of rubbish I have ridden, and did you have to mention the Log Flume? The old biogger one had the big perspex screen that one stood behind and all ducked when the water hit it. I believe that was identical to one at Dreamland Margate and, not that any of you would know, when Battersea Park in London had a permanent funfair, the one there. Still hopeful; they have several items in storage and do have some "listed" rides. It would be good to have that park open again, though it's a long way over there, for little else. Despite what you may have seen in a video, the ride actually spins very fast. Unlike most spinning coasters, this coaster doesn't stop spinning. There is no lock on the cars to stop them spinning. They are held in place by operators on boarding/disembarking. I went last month. It's good funIt's a real shame they let the south end of the park end up the way it did.
