Top 10's

Recommended Posts

It's that time of year. Did quiet a bit of thinking and done a fair amount of rejigging...

1. Taron, Phantasialand

2. Helix, Liseberg

3. Nemesis, Alton Towers

4. Balder, Liseberg

5. Joris en de Draak, Efteling

6. Troy, Toverland

7. Lost Gravity, Walibi Holland

8. The Swarm, Thorpe Park

9. Black Mamba, Phantasialand

10. Hyperion, Energylandia

Swarm has dropped down massively, in part down to me just having done it so much I guess. But I still think it's pretty darn good.

Lost Gravity is a weird one, because I know I really enjoyed it, but I'm not sure how much of the ranking is based on a bit of rose-tinted glasses. Look forward to riding it again next year..

Lech at Legendia just misses, due to it being too intense. It's a shame, because if it was a little less intense on the drop / first inversion, it'd be a Top 5 coaster easily...

Top ten before Cedar Point and Six Flags Great America (not gonna include rides from my trip to Over Texas as that was 2012 and my memory is sh**)

1. Shambhala:

Awful park, great ride. Consistently my favourite.

2. Wodan:

I love GCI, can't wait to get back on this thing soon. Not sure if I prefer Blue Fire though.

3. Nemesis: This thing was hauling ass the other day.

4. Blue Fire: IT IS A MACK.

5. Wickerman: Wodan but a bit smaller. Still amazing though.

6. The Smiler: Little rough but very fun and unique Gerst.

7. Red Force: Sexy ass launch

8. Silver Star: Fun in the back on the final bunny hills. Gives some floater air but depends on the day

9. Dragons Khan: Painful but intense and it looks sexy.

10. Inferno: My current favourite at Thorpe. Especially good towards the end of the day in the back row.

Having visited two new European parks, I think it is time to update a few fields.

Top 10 Coasters:

1/ Steel Vengeance

2/ Helix

3/ Taron

4/ Maverick

5/ Millenium Force

6/ Shambala

7/ Oziris

8/ Wodan

9/ Nemesis

10/ Icon

And now onto the parks:

1/ Europa Park

2/ Cedar Point

3/ Phantasialand

3/ Efteling

5/ Disneyland Paris

6/ Liseberg

7/ Parc Asterix

8/ Alton Towers

9/ Tivoli Gardens

10/ Blackpool Pleasure Beach

P.A and Thorpe are now off the top 10 list.

Last but not least, everyone needs a park bucket list. Here’s my one for European parks:

1/ Gardaland
2/ Tover Land
3/ Energylandia
4/ Heide Park
5/ Grona Lund
6/ Parque Warner Madrid
7/ Linnanmaki
8/ Hansa Park
9/ Futuroscope
10/ Legoland Billund

Some parks are very much the same whilst some have re-entered (Heide notably). Energylandia and Linnanmaki have leap frogged onto the list for numerous reasons.

More  changes could be afoot in the near future.

5/ Millennium Force

6/ Shambhala

7/ Oziris

4/ Joris

5/ Wickerman

6/ Balder

7/ Tonnerre De Zeus

8/ Megafobia

9/ Ruscherterbahn- Tivoli Gardens

10/ Stampida

Crazy how in just weeks all the BPB woodies are off the list. Guess that’s what happens when you let them run rougher than Blackpool back alleys.

Top 10 Parks:

1/ Europa Park

2/ Cedar Point

3/ Efteling

3/ Phantasialand

5/ Disneyland Paris

6/ Liseberg

Chiapas is quite simply a masterpiece. Even when the day comes that I finally do Splash Mountain and Ripsaw Falls, I have faith it will remain my number one water attraction.

Right, so I finally ticked off two substantial U.K. parks last week, so thought I might as make a Top 10 UK parks list.

Top 10 U.K. parks:

1/ Alton Towers

2/ Blackpool

3/ Paultons

4/ Chessington

5/ Thorpe

6/ Legoland

7/ Flamingo Land

8/ Oakwood

9/ Pleasurewood Hills

10/  Lightwater Valley

Fantasy Island is essentially my last major park left now, with the exception of Blackgang Chime and the park’s in Devon and Scotland.

My current list post Cedar Point and Great America.

1. Steel Vengeance- unbelievable airtime combined with headchoppers and great inversions. Utter masterpiece from RMC and Cedar Point.

2. Maverick- intense bank turns, good ejector moments, great drop, great launch. Maverick being next to Steel Vengeance is very fitting.

3. Shambhala- consistent floater airtime machine (-2)

4. Wodan- GCI sexyness (-2)

5. Nemesis- Best Invert so far (-2)

6. Top Thrill Dragster- one trick pony but that one trick is soooo good.

7. Goliath (Six Flags Great America)- Very short but very sweet, love the first drop and the zero g stall.

8. Blue Fire- so sexyyy (-4)

9. Millennium Force- Great first drop, long with some pops of air.

10. Wickerman- mini Wodan. (-5)

  2. Disneyland Paris (sensing a theme here…?)
  3. Alton towers

  5. Fuji-Q Highland (great rides but literally no cohesive theming at all, reminded me a bit of a fairground)

Top 3 theme-park soundtracks

  1. Can the Pirates of the Caribbean music go here? It is now.
  2. WWTP radio at Thorpe, both in and outside of fright nights.

Went to Phantasialand for the first time in 5 years, and there's a reshuffle as a result:

1. Taron - Phantasialand

2. Baron 1898 - Efteling

3. Joris en de Draak - Efteling

4. Revenge of the Mummy - Universal Orlando

5. Blue Fire - Europa Park

6. Space Mountain - Disneyland Paris

7. Big Thunder Mountain - Disneyland Paris

8. Expedition Everest - Animal Kingdom

9. Wicker Man - Alton Towers

10. Stealth - Thorpe Park

The rides on this list have been added for various reasons. Some are rides I like because they are thrilling, others because I like the mix of theming and coaster, some I have a sense of nostalgia for and others I just find fun. It's a personal list and I fully acknowledge there are objectively 'better' that I lack a fondness for.
