Rameses Revenge

It looks like fairly usual stuff for Rameses to me & RobF makes a good point. They'll probably keep it going as long as they possibly can, imagine the expense of getting it out of that pit. Didn't it have some extensive work done to it in recent years anyway? I'm sure I read that it had new restraints & a new PLC amongst other stuff. Of course this could be incorrect :).

Ramses has definitely declined this year. Firstly, it only does half the cycle on a good day, but the only time I've managed to get on it when it's opened, it failed to complete the full flip, and lowered back down to offload. Normally it would be sent around again from past experience, with minimal fuss, but this year when that happened the engineers just came down, got everyone off and just said its not going to be running again by any chance that day.

Had a ride on Rameses yesterday. We were waiting in the queue for longer than I would have liked as it took ages to actually get going! On the ride before ours, the restraints had to be reset 4 times and 3 larger guests (in my opinion they weren't even that large!) had to be escorted off after first being shuffled around a bit (is this to balance the weight or something)? The cycle was very short and all that happened was a couple of spins at the top and then the slow decline into the water fountains! Not any noticeable squeaking though which I take as a good sign. Maybe they've coated it in WD40!

The restraints on rammy aren't generous. At all. Bigger people need to be moved round alot more then is reasonable, because of the restraint system. With a lack of a test chair, and the awkward bar styles, this effects both taller, and wider people, and as said, those boundaries aren't forgiving. The end seats tend to be better for them just because they have more space on one side, but if the attendants box says the bars aren't locked, they reshuffle and then escort people off if this continues to happen. From what I remember it doesn't do it for single seats but rather in rows of 10, so if 2 large people are sitting in the same group of seats more problems occur. Before you're even allowed to send the ride you need 15 people.

It's a real ball ache for what is these days a pathetic shadow and squeak of a really good, intense and fun ride that chessington really should benefit from, but it's definitely getting to the point where it simply shouldn't be this bad.

I might have an idea to make Rameses Revenge even better. Put in some more theming, and repaint the ride. And also add music and announcements, (just like on Black Buccaneer and Seastorm, which have both been added last year.) If my suggestion is right, then Rameses will be much better for years to come. Would you agree with me? (Although, I have already done that on ROBLOX last year and this year.)

The ride is just so tired and old; the best idea would be to put it out of its misery and be replaced with a newer model. And it's all very well giving your ideas for how you would make it better, but we aren't staff at Merlin Magic Making and it's not like you've actually said WHAT theming you would add. To be honest too, theming isn't what rameses lacks. It's no Talocan, but Rammy is quite nice tucked away in that little corner, with the rocky bit at the back. The high paths above make it a nice spectator event for the public.

What Chessie REALLY need to sort out is getting the damn thing working, although there's not much that can be done when it's so knackered.

Yes... It could be a great asset. Can it be done?

I honestly think Rameses is a ticking time bomb at this point.

The ride has aged very badly and its very unreliable and the cycles seem to get worse by the days..

I think a simple re-paint or spruce up would generally be the tip of the iceberg, and if even Merlin did do that the ride will probably collapse in the next few years anyway..

I think Merlin will probably remove it soon and replace it with an another flat or something.

Just get a flat ride and tack on a semi-disingenuous and desperate USP and we have ourselfs a Merlin addition..

The problem with Ramses is that it would be very costly to remove, moreso than the expensive motor replacements it keeps requiring. Building it into the pit in the way that they didn’t perhaps wasn’t the best long term plan...

Its footprint isn’t anything you could realistically use for any other attraction either, as the space is so small. So that said, I’d doubt they’ll get rid of Rameses until they absolutely have to- it’s quite a well-known ride locally too!

Funny thing is, some people were once joking around of it moving to Thorpe. Imagine the outcry from enthusiasts if that happened.

Ramesis is a staple thrill ride at the park and still seems popular enough despite it’s many problems. Unfortunately I can’t see the ride receiving major or worthwhile refurbishment to keep it going longer term. The park probably don’t have the budget or power to enable this.

Just remove the ride and what are you left with? A fountain show spectacular!

That, or extra premium parking. The world's first parking spaces inside a theme park.

Or, and this is just crazy talk obviously, a new Top Spin! Is there any Top Spin variant which would be marketable UK/Europe first? It's the only way it could happen.
