  1. It all depends on what your basing this on, I think as an overall experience Alton Towers will still be number 1 because it has a better atmosphere than the other theme parks in the UK, what with it's beautiful gardens and well themed areas. But if your talking about purely a selection of rides than I think Thorpe Park will boast the best selection, infact in my opinion it already does. :P

  2. I think after SAW things will slow down for a few years until the opening of the proposed hotel, and does anyone think Thorpe could benefit from The Olympic Games?Having said that someone on hear mentioned they spoke to a guy who works in Thorpe Park and he was told that Thorpe Park are opening another thrill ride next year, and another rollercoaster in 2011.

  3. PRE-COMMENT WARNING: I hate rumours based on random crap, I wouldn't post this unless I believed it to be true.I was at the Assessment Centre on Wednesday, and in my individual interview, I said how Thorpe parks rides are second to none (IMHO). The guy interviewing me said that Thorpe Park was just developing and still had a lot of growing to do (sounds really positive!). He said 'M.H.F.Safari' had been removed ready for development for a new ride for 2010 and there would be another coaster in 2 years!Reading it back it could be regarded as utter shizz. But it's what he said! Just thought I'd throw it into the discussion. I don't do rumours, I heard it from thsi guy - it could be inaccurate but he said it, and I was ridiculously excited by it!

Sounds very exciting, I hope the guy you interviewed was factual. Another coaster in 2 years whoopey, hope it's another scream machine!!As for next years suppossed ride where Miss Hippos was, I predict another flat thrill ride my money is on a Huss Top Spin, (perhaps relocation of Rameses Ravenge)! ;);):P
  4. it will not be a launched coaster cos of rita so thay would not put two in the park and next to each other

Will I wouldn't be so sure about that, cause I did here somewhere of the possibility of a Vekoma Motorbike coaster like Velocity at Flamingoland which features a 50mph launch, apparently it was proposed for Gloomy Wood, I think this was more a case of hear'say than facts though! ;)
  5. Launching backwards sounds dangerous. I'm pretty sure Alton's nxt coaster is going to be the Woodern coaster they proposed, I assume it will be where Corkscrew was! Apparently original plans where to build it in the valley behind Nemesis, and was to feature the worlds largest Woodern coaster drop at over 200'ft, being built in the valley meant they could achieve this without breaking Alton Towers treeline restriction. But I think it has been scaled down now to be simular in scale to Megafobia at Oakwood, so should still be an excellent ride! ;)

  6. Well it was on the news, so whether you believe me or not is ur choice but I'm sure if it was on the news that there was some truth to it! And how are Alton Towers/Thorpe Park more restricted than CWOA? Thorpe Park in particular has way more expansion room what with the large lakes that surround it, Chessington has a housing estate surrounding it so any further expansion would mean permission from council to knock down houses, but this will never happen because the residents who live there will have something to say I'd imagine! ;)

  7. It was on BBC London about a year ago max, they said with the upcomming recession they where worried about the parks finances and it's ability to compete with other UK parks building more popular rides/attractions including neighbouring Thorpe Park! The park where already millions in-dept when they done this report, so I dread to think of the situation they're in atm, they probably counting thier last few pennies lol ;)

  8. Lets face it Alton Towers have always been the best park in this country for producing groundbreaking/innotive rides so I dont see why their nxt Secret Weapon should be any differant. But I get the impression the park has come as far as it can for revolutionary rollercoasters, so any coasters built there now are likely to be rollercoater types that have been around for a while. I dont know if anyone knows if the rumoured Woodern coaster is still going ahead? If not than I'd like to see a Floorless coaster like Kraken, and built into the ground like Nemesis, we havn'tgot a Floorless in the UK yet so here's hoping, but probably all in vein cause I don't think it's ever going to happen especially at Alton Towers, perhaps Thorpe Park or Blackpool.

  9. So are they actually retheming Samurai for this season? And if they are tell me they are going to give it a colour change, please tell they are giving it a colour change? I personally hate the current colour, I prefered it when it was at CWOA!:P

  10. I just feel that is the proof that Thorpe have decided to get rid of the themed areas. This fits in nowhere. It's just plonked there and I have a feeling that the SAW theming came in after the plans we saw. The first plans we saw were very saw mill and western almost what with the windmill but windmills and saw mills (ironically) don't actually fit into the SAW theme.

Sorry I keep posting but this is an important point, does anybody think they might re-theme the Canada Creek area into a movie themed area? So perhaps they'll name the other rides in area after famous films and add appropriate theming! That would be really cool if they did, they could have their own Universal Studios style area in the park. :):P
  11. Oh yeah I remember now they where going to hav 4 inversions but took 1 out and replaced it with an airtime hill. Wat a stupid thing to do why didn't they keep the 4th inversion aswell as adding the airtime hill? It would hav been so much better and would hav lengthened the ride out abit! :D:D

  12. To me SAW looks taller than Detonator for some reason, I believe Slammer is 105'ft. Just another question they say the ride has 3 inversions, but are they including the barrel roll inside the ride station building, or just the outdoor inversions?? Because if they havnt included the barrel roll than technically speaking they're wrong because it has 4 inversions! :D:D

  13. I'm so excited about this ride opening. When I heard it was gonna be called SAW and based on the films I was doing cartwheels! I think they are brave to call it the scariest ride in the world though, I cant see this but I'm sure it's gonna be very good wiv some excellent theming. Judging by the photos I'd say the drop is a little over 100'ft it looks massive behind Samurai and most impressive!I heard that it's 110'ft can anyone confirm this? If so it's as tall as Detonator. :D

  14. Never been on Slammer, it's a ride that I always seem to bottle out of! It dosn't even look as scary as some of the other rides I go on, but there's just something about it I dont trust, I think it's those weird lookin restraints! ;);)
