Fred
Yes - finally, York has something worth going for (apart from its culture, it's beautiful city, it's railway and museum, it's Jorvic viking centre, it's Minster and it's Park & Ride systems).. It is.. the CHOCOLATE MUSEUM. Unfortunately, I am **** and do not provide photos. But seriously, in all seriousness, it's ace. It's like cadbury world, but about a billion times better (it helps that it wasn't opened in 1992). Learning about the history of chocolate, the history of chocolate in york, involving Rowntrees, Nestle and the Terrys brand. There are a couple of mentions of Cadbury and Kraft, but York hates them as Kraft are evil gits. So, what happens here? Well, you meet real chocolateers, you get shown how chocolate is made (interactively!), see and talk to chocolateers making some actual products which you can eat literally minutes later. Finished off by a natural ending in the worlds best chocolate shop and cafe (products made with chocolate, and run by themselves and not some stupid external company, take that Cadburys). It's cheap to visit (£9.50 per adult, concessions available), it lasts the same amount of time as Cadbury World, the staff are far more friendly and knowledgable about their products and have real enthusiasm (unlike Cadbury of which I visit yearly), and honestly.. the only thing Cadbury does better is have a giant anamatronic gorilla. Apart from that, even the marketing section is better in world of chocolate. So yes, if you visit york at any time ever, go to this museum. Please. If you do go, share in this topic, and take some bloody photos. Need links?
