THE SWARM: Construction Updates
Amazingly happy that the helicopter is there. And I am loving that picture above. Not only is it one of the best angles of The Swarm I have seen, it shows the sheer scale of this epic rollercoaster.

And of course, the great thing about the theming they have gone for, you really are not going to miss a chunk of wall.

And there we go! Enough of this 'it looks slow' nonsense!!

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
Ride test videos always make a ride look slower so have no fear. This happens with every ride testing video I have followed the construction of, with the exception of the intamin launched coasters. As far as complaining it is too short, well think of it as an extended Oblivion! That is one of the most popular rides in the UK. Its short but packs a whollop.

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
I would imagine it stopping after the inline twist simpky because the ride is in the testing phase. I can't imagine why some peeps thought the ride would look fast on such an open track! You have to remember the sheer scale of this thing too, the video makes the ride look small, but I can assure you, when you ride it, you are going to come off it and say, wow, that is a lot faster than it looks! It covers a longer circuit than Inferno in a shorter time. Speaks for itself really!!

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
Slow!? Go back and have a look how quickly it goes under the wing, then up into the inclined loop and down into the overbanked turn. This thing is going to pull some really nice G's especially at the bottom after the zero g into the inclined loop, good grief!!What they have done is genious. It is very fast through the transitions and graceful in the inverted elements. Exactly how it should be.

THE SWARM: Speculation & Theories
We are not talking about the blades spinning very fast here. Just rotating fast enough to make it look like the crash has recently happened, or even rotating in the wind? It is not the be all and end all to be honest, but any piece of theming that moves just adds to the interaction and realism.

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
Whilst you lot are talking about locusts, The Swarm is probably whizzing around the track and we are missing it!! Lunatics! ;-) Loving the pictures previously by the way, good job.

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
Oh my god! They are amazing!!! Anyone noticed his the eye LED's look like they scan back and forth? Just wow. These must be the best looking trains ever.

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
Hmm, yeah possibly some fire proof coating, I think that was mentioned by someone in here recently. Well time will tell. Would be lovely to see some new photies soon.

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
I was wondering the same thing. Why did they paint it black and it is hard to tell, but are they adding to the fuselage as the last few seconds of that time lapse looks like it gets bigger.

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
I can't believe we will be riding this thing in, what was it.......10 weeks and 2 days now apparently! 'Sorry Sheepie I only realised after I posted that you were only joking 'But all very exciting and I think we are all in for a real treat with this one. Looking forward to some more construction pics over the coming weeks.

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
As has been mentioned, it clearly states in the plans that the roof was going to be open. However, it should be pretty cool, as it will make the church feel very abandoned and post apocalyptic. I also think with the amount of theming over the roof, it will feel very enclosed anyway. :-)

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
OK, OK, just replace the 15 weeks with 10 weeks and 3 days. It was supposed to be a simple estimation but meh.

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
Come on guys, we still have about 15 construction weeks left yet! Go back that far and we barely had a station structure! There are plenty of surprises and structures/elements left to finish and build.

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
I think the bridge is waiting to be lifted into its final location. I might be wrong, but I don't think that is where it will stay, at least not according to the plans anyway.
-
THE SWARM: Construction Updates
Looks simply stunning. Looks like they are painting the unseen side of the aircraft fuselage black. I am intreagued as to how exactly they are going to finish it off.

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
That is because the transfer track has been slid across to the maintenance side. This is a very recent photo.

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
Ah yes, the plans do clearly show the rotors are pretty destroyed! Although to have them still turning would look cool, as if it had just crashed. There is so much theming to go in for this ride, I cant wait to see what the in line twist has in store over the station!
-
THE SWARM: Construction Updates
*Troll Alert*! Anyway, does anyone think that the helicopter rotor blades may turn?! After having seen the amazing quality of theming thus far, I simply cannot wait to see the rest!
-
THE SWARM: Construction Updates
Good lord, we have not seen anything quite on this scale in the UK before! Hell, compared to Disney standards this is impressive!
-
THE SWARM: Construction Updates
They are not exactly the Bellagio Fountains are they!!! lol, but I am sure they will look cool when installed and calibrated!

THE SWARM: Construction Updates
Being an ex RAF pilot myself, (and current commercial pilot), quite frankly, I could not give a rat's arse whether it is an Airbus or a Boeing, it looks tremendous. I was expecting a plastic aeroplane replica for goodness sake! Lets just hope we get some nice effects to go with it!
-
THE SWARM: Construction Updates
And water effects!!Hopefully we might see some mist generators used to look like smoke too! Always makes a coaster more fun when you get a little wet!

Thorpe Park In 3D - Google Earth
Hey guys. Yeah well I was going to use the plans to texture the the ride and its theming, the problem is as Jack R mentions above, it makes it hard without the Google Earth Street view to get scales and positioning accurate. It is one of the reasons I have not tackled Storm Force. I have had to put the 3D modelling on hold for a little while, but I will be starting again next year. The Swarm will be on the top of the to do list I promise. I already have models nearly complete for the Loggers Leap area and that will be also looked at next year. I hope you guys like the models I have done so far, I do enjoy doing it as a hobby, so watch this space in early 2012.
