Had a power cut at work today - Topman is downstairs on the ground floor with no natural light so it was pitch black . No light, no music - just a mere fire exit sign... creepy. The power came back on but the changing room lights remained off. hmm. Thats my story, hows about yours?

Hyde Park Calling was abit wicked yesterday. Aerosmith, Chris Cornell, Jet... and all that =].In other news, I've been to Ikea.
  4. I have to disagree. When people are at a park they don't have to notice. Its all about the subconsious. We accept the world around us because of our 5 senses; Sight, Smell, Touch, Taste and Hearing. Sure you know your going on a rollercoaster in Thorpe Park, but when all your senses are being told you are somewhere else, your brain on a subconsious level begins to believe it. This is how fright nights mazes work. The actors arn't going to kill or harm you - thats a rediculous thought. But yet we are scared wit less. This makes the experience far more real and magical - especially when you can involve people who don't even want to ride the ride. There is a thing about theming. Rides are either good or bad. You hear it all the time from both enthusiasts and non enthusiasts. However. Themeing - whether the ride is bad or good, or if there is no ride at all - it can make it amazing. (ie. Spookshlot (sp?) at efteling - is a non ride attraction and is instead a animatronics show)I have been to phantasialand once a year so far - which is the same as an avarage family might go to thorpe. I and my friends, DO notice the themeing. It DEFINATLY makes a difference and it makes EVERY visit special, finding new details, shops, nooks and crannys. Disney has proven it, Phantasialand and such have prooven it. Alton Towers has prooven it with attractions like Nemesis. I would just like to say, I got my brosures though from Phantasialand today. I was inspired, despite being there. I want to explore more. Experience the fear, excitement and magic more. The themeing involves all the family and its truly amazing. One last point. You say that people wont be talking about the themeing but instead the ride itself. Well, despite that not necessarily being true, if you mix an amazing ride with themeing - sounds like a recepie for truely amazing rides.

Ha, I havent heard of K'nex in years. I used to have a TV remote holder I made out of K'nex but I broke it. Nice vortex though - made me lol. On the subject of K'nex, this made me remember my childhood... My friend used to have it - I was facinated by all the differnt passages and stuff, highlight of my childhood. Could have played with that for days.
  14. Went to Thorpe Park today. Got there by train, paid for the Thorpe Shuttle bus which took ages to leave - regretted not going to Chertsey and just walking. Me and my mate had our tickets already (well mine was anual-ness) had to wait for the others to queue up the beautiful cattle pen queue at the entrance. Queues were alright today, although highlight of the day had to be Amity Toilets. Tidal Wave b0rked beacuse some duck got suck in the chain mechanism bit, poor little chum. Slammer also decided to die on us. Flying Fish x1i got bored of counting, but we did most of the rides. Did get last ride on slammy and Colossus mind you. (got to reride Colossus, yay!)I think joined the campaign for fun. Good day - I had so many laughs with the non-enthusiasts. Best one had to be when I told my friend that Nemesis Inferno was onfire when the mist started appearing over the queue - the fun continued when she got the harness with the double seat belt. he he he.One question though, whats the deal with the jet spray under the bridge, squirting its liquidness in a random direction into the lake? it didn't seem to have a huge amount purpose to it.
  15. It wasn't rushed - Was looking sort of hopful when the first plans came out, hell, they even have the original concept art. It wasnt always orange I promise...Source ThorpePark.comBut the powers that be obviously prefer gates and concrete. *shrugs*
  16. some party rings. Happy Birthday Gillbert. =]
  17. You can see here that the initial plans of infilling look quite promising in terms of size - at a glance you can see that Island A alone is bigger than the area of Inferno - maybe if the new attraction spanned over both islands. I am looking forward to their proposals and plans.
  18. I... I. Lemme just. Oh MY god! Just gets better baby.
  19. Fair enough about gate figs, its not what I have heard but, yeh. 50p isnt alot - when you have an AP, huge first timer families who've payed near 200quackers to get in, only to find that their teenager, her friend and the parents each want a map - well theres another ?2. Litter is down, which is nice - could have encouraged recycling or somthing instead. (idea) You'd think - I know a few nonfankids who disagree after their PL visit - but the rest of britain dont really have the choice. And PL has one Hotel. Not really the point I intended - it should have been done from the start. I'll agree more when I start seeing some results.
  20. its all we ask. If ATA is better - then go there. We let alot slide and you know it. I see it everyday at my school and arguments like 'you copied me' arn't worth it mate.
  21. Because: A - its got nothing to do with this thread. B - Arguments like that get on my nerves, just PM him, I doubt anyone else on here actually cares. C - Unfortunatly its my job and its in the rules.D - Important exams are stressing me out and I'm in a bad mood.No more about it, please.
  22. They really do need to though. World travel is becoming so much easier, quicker and cheaper (I should know, my geog exam was on it). The amount of money that Thorpe and well the british themepark industry are loosing out on to places like disneyland, phantasialand, efteling and portaventura is phenominal. I know for a fact there are many people in the north who have never heard of Thorpe Park, let alone people from around the continent. Gate figures are dropping, prices have gone up, we now being charged for lockers and fastrack, and the biggest blow to it all is that you cant even get a park map included in the extortionate price you pay to get in. There are hardly any shows and the theming is practically non existant. Yeh sure thorpe park has developed majorly over the last 7 years, but after Colossus and Nemesis... =[Phantasialand on the other hand have added attractions slowly but surely - making every little detail count. Every year people flock there and their gate figures have been high ever since it opened, and they are certainly not dropping. Its so diverse; so much more than just rides, but shows, discovery and adventure. Its won awards, not for its statistics, but for its quality. An example? The chinese embassador personally commended the park for building such a monumental hotel (Ling Bao) and described it as a tribute to the chinese culture and a symbol of the strong bridge between the western and eastern worlds. I am willing to pay to go all the way over there and know that I will be getting full value for money and have a completely unique experience that NO british park can ever give me - and I know MANY people who feel the same. You can enjoy the extreme thrills and still be able to experience it with the family. Children and mezmorised by the big rides and transported away into a completely new world. Oh. and all this is cheaper than Thorpe Park.Tussauds/ Merlin/ Blackstone/ DIC are squeezing as much money as they can with their parks - budget cuts, price rises, cheap commericals and new 'benefit schemes' like bounceback. And their going nowhere fast. Places like PL - their original ideas, artistic detail, atmosphere and magic have brought them a one way ticket to glory with their planned resort trippling the land and adding more and more quality attractions, shows and ideas and its a brighter future. They are squeezing out the money - they are absorbing it. They have standards.I sound like a Thorpe Park hater. But every minute I see attractions like the Flying Fish being installed - how ever spoilt and ungrateful I sound - I become ever more bitter. Us brits deserve better. Memories from a place like Phantasialand, especially as a child, will stay with your forever.
