  1. I've just come across this old tread (from 2014) on theme park reviews forums

looks like in science week, Chessington  did some graphic info boards of its history - with some great photos and images of the park and old Ariel shots etc, that I've never seen before.

Does anyone have any better/clearer images of these boards when Chessington did this? or know where the images came from (often Merlin steal from elsewhere lol). Its just I'd like to see these images better. or if anyone knows where these boards are?

I'm sure maybe the park brought them out for other science weeks or nostalgia stuff in subsequent years?

  2. I mean if its like a dungeons attraction - why don't they just turn it into one? - link it to walking dead and have a hybrid experience and base it in the Necropolis railway that the Dungeons had as a halloween layover show a few years ago!  And with the two ride systems it would be different enough from the nearby London dungeons to be able to hold its own!

Nobody - I repeat, nobody - is entering a shop in a theme park expecting antiques.

I mean, if they did I'd be interested lol. Love antique shops and brick-a-brack and collecting old dolls to make halloween displays! I'd legit be down if they did!

They could like sell glass dolls eyes or semi-classy spooky things.

Does anyone think Alton Manor is unfinished and will temporarily close for a while for finishing touches, like Nemesis Sub Terra did in 2012? I think Alton Manor would benefit from extra theming and minor tweaks. I think that by July/August Alton Manor will be complete and even better than it is currently.

I imagine now they might try and get some fixed before the Easter school holidays as that's the next popular period of the season, and when a lot of people will visit and make first impressions . And then some other issues sorted for the 6 Week July-Aug holidays.

  5. I wonder if the screaming room has remained - that would account for 'flying demons'.

If the spider room remains - I imagine they've re-animated the spiders. in the original plans for the HH the giant spider you go under was meant to have puppet-like legs which moved individually- but it got downgraded to just the whole body lowering down a bit! - and to match any projections etc - they'll have to make any remaining animatronics quite 'dynamic' so there no juxtaposition between a lively video projection and a static prop moving up and down in a wire! The industry has moved on in 30 years and you can get very animated horror props and now - such as the one below!

Yesterday Alton Towers dropped part of the storyline for Alton Manor into the world. Judging from the plot of the Ride Snowy could be involved. The plot could be that due to Emily Alton’s loneliness her Parents bought her a Cat which she named Snowy. I’d love to see both Emily Alton and Snowy appear as animatronics. I get the feeling Emily’s Parents will be in the narrative. Should this be true could Sir Henry Alton (Emily’s Dad) return to the ride.

I hope the original  effect of Emily Alton in the Dolls House is retained. This effect has been consistent in both the original Haunted House and Duel. Without this effect the seemingly sweet Young Girl we love wouldn’t exist.

I wonder if Sir Henrys head will appear once again in the fireplace?

In the haunted dolls house event in london guests had to walk through a fireplace! - so maybe the ride now goes through a fireplace into a portal - featuring Sir Henry Altons head cursing you!

  7. Blue sky thinking out the box here...... but I came across this urban legend ghost story on youtube featuring 'Black Annis' - a blue skinned witch that used to live in a cave in local Leicester!

I was thinking they could re-skin the Lunatic into Black Annis with her sharpe talon-like fingers she could leap out of the her cave (once the lunatics cave).  This would tie in local folklore appropriately and give the Lunatics cave more context! Therefore I believe the Lunatic will return as Black Annis!

I read the following on a Facebook Group I belong too “I can confirm cars are back on site, and also can co firm that set pieces from duel will be staying”. The same person confirmed the same ride system and carriages will remain. According to my source the Cars have had a lick of paint and the guns and scoreboards removed. Finally my source said the Spider Scene has been kept. @Trooper Looper I know how passionate you are about The original Haunted House/Duel so I thought I’d share this information. I’m relieved the ride system, arguably the best in the world, will be part of Alton Manor. It’s brilliant that Emily Alton has let the spiders reside in her Dollshouse. The Spiders are amazing. Despite this I bet people with arachnophobia won’t be so pleased.

Let’s hope Alton Manor enables the ride system to survive another 30 years. @Trooper Looper do you look forward to seeing the carriages minus the guns and scoreboards?

I Predict guests will be magically shrunk by the Trommel tunnel into Emilys cursed dolls house and inside giant spiders have lived and will menace guests - or Giant spiders with dolls heads having a demonic tea party!

and then undertaker is actually MR Doom from Doom and Sons and he collects guests souls - and its a final battle of wills between MR DOOM and Emily for your souls - but the climax is the giant rubber duck that appears in a shower of smoke - bubbles to reap his revenge!

Also theres mention of Mirrors so maybe Emily is banished into a mirror at end!

As for the technology never seen - I think there will be trackless dolls pram which will move by underfloor magnets and chase the carriages or move of their own accord!

@thorpephan wasn’t The Adventure House in the same location that is now occupied by Dragons Playhouse? I never knew that the predecessor to Dragons Playhouse was the former Elephant House.

I'm pretty sure it still is the old elephant house - just modified!, either that or the building was rebuild or partially built on the exact site! There used to be an old remote control boat game in the old Hippo pond too.

  10. So who remembers Circus world? You'd have to be over a certain age to remember it considering it closed at the end of 1994.

Specifically does anyone remember the play area/ interactive area they had when it first opened 1987-1989 ish.. It was in the 'sideshow' booths around the lands parameter, but they weren't sideshows as in uncharge games but were these soft-play type elements . It included a climbing structure that was inside the entrance towers to the area and included a helter skelter tube slide down the second tower... it was like the parks first soft play BEFORE the long defunct Adventure house soft play area that was in the old Elephant house!

Anyway I remember visiting in about 1992 and the play area around the tower and the little side shows where already blocked off/unaccessible and just there as theming elements.  I remember my dad giving me a foot up to look over some painted bording and the slide etc where still there! So these attractions must have been short lived!... but I can't find any mention, apart from looking at old guidebooks scanned and posted online and I see mention of 'sideshows' and 'clown town' (not to be confused with 'clown around' the kiddie coaster) mentioned on the 1987-1989 maps, so I think this is what they might have been called.

  11. It is possible, but I would see it as being unlikely, afterall the flow of guests to and from that area would be very limited. Interesting fact is technically all the land and lakes are man made anyway. Everything that is there now is the result of in-filling anyway.

Yes I can see that - particularly with monks walk being right through it - thats why I could see it being used for an "out and back" coaster - thats starts and finishes within the park Is monks walk an ancient walkway then? I know rights way being get quite peeved if you try and divert there routes?
  12. As the situation stands Thorpe Park own the lake and land where Waterski is based, this comes from many years ago, where you correctly say waterski was part of Thorpe Park, with access being at a point where Monks Walk turns in to a bridge. I find it weird that Thorpe would want to buy Waterski out of their lease as there is in fact very little they can do with the lake or land on that side of Monks Walk. The lake and a lot of its surrounding land is protected under European Law due to its importance for wintering birds. Similarly for areas not affected by this, the Environment Agency wants to use the lake as a method of routing water away from the River Bourne at Chertsey, before it merges into the Thames to help relieve flooding.

Thats interesting and sort of answers my question as to whether the land can be developed on! maybe they can develop on part of it for example the part with the ski equipment on - as that has man made elements to it!
  13. The thing with planning permission, as far as I'm aware, those who submit plans have to publicly display a notice informing everyone and people are allowed to object to it with valid reasoning. I assume Thorpe Park is objecting rather than the planning permissions board rejecting it outright?

Perhaps - this is because JB ski rent to Thorpe Park - who still OWN the land - and hense why Thorpe park objects - maybe they won't give JB Ski permission because they do have there eye on that area in the future
  14. Does Thorpe Park still own St Annes lake and the Britannia arena? and if they don't - would they be able to buy it back? on park maps from the early 80's it showed the Britannia arena as being accessible along with the rest of the park - but I think along the way it was franchised out to a watersports company!also I assume Thorpe still own abit of st Annes lake where the nature trail used to be.my point being - from areal photos - this area is quite huge - extending out to the M3- there also doesnt seem to be much residential developments around there - especially the Canada Creek end - I've always thought this would be a great space for a woodie - Similar to Colossus at Heide park - the park could virtually double if the extend that way - only problem being is monks walk public footpath Cuts right through the park at that point, but it could still be ok for out and back coasters!

  15. Hi - this attraction really fascinates me - can anyone describe in detail what it was like? can anyone tell me*Where the station was and what it was like? what was the que like?*how did you get to the station? did you walk or did the Canada creek railway drop you off? or both? and if you walked how did you get there? by the side of thunder river? was there signage guiding you?* what did you see as you went round? I've seen pictures of a pirate ship in two you passed through - what else? * how man "scenes" where there? *was there lots of trees or was it barren? * did the train driver speak to you like the CC railway drivers used to?
