  1. Having never seen another top scan, I never really noticed a zeroing issue of late; never really saw Samurai in it's early Thorpe days as I rarely get a chance to go. Once a year is a record for me ;) Only ever seen it swing once a little, swing again, lock the suddenly and lower. I presume lowering is all down to the PLC?

  2. I think some pads have been removed rather than them wearing out, hopefully they will replace them though. Also noticed it seems to have some new boats with drainage now too ;)

This might sound like the thickest question on earth but I can understand how the Tidal wave boats drain and the rapids boats drain but how on earth are the Storm Surge boats meant to have drainage built in without allowing water back in?
  3. Have to say that hands down, the Fanta sponsorship of Oblivion was the worst sponsorship addition ever; beat Bubbleworks by miles in my opinion. At least with Bubbleworks, they were able to keep the same fun and friendly factory atmosphere and it remained quirky; that is what the ride is meant to be. The Fanta sponsors appeared to have tried to almost take the mick of the original Oblivion fear factor, especially in the station where right beneath the "Don't Look Down" sign, the sponsor states "But looking down is more fun" .... Seriously!? ;)

  4. Gonna throw this out, but does any one else think the marketing for this is on a much larger scale than that of SAW - The Rides?

Most definitely. There is no movie franchise IP sucking up a good chunk of the budget this time round; more money left for the themeing, advertising, ride hardware etc.
  5. Thinking about it, should Thorpe decide to do the fixes (which probably won't happen), you know that if they can make a marketing spin off about it, they will. Stealth gets tweaked and it becomes Stealth 1.1 (or something like that), Saw gets no changes what so ever and it is all of a sudden more terrifying than ever: Rush gets the fixes and gives a little boost to the ride experience but not noticeable to most of the public and it will no doubt become Rush reloaded.

  6. I guess that is the price you pay when you invest in a prototype. The reason they built Rush was because Thorpe wanted a new ride, S&S wanted to test and make improvements for the complete and future version of the ride and for that reason, S&S probably cut the price of Rush considerably.I agree with Sidders that I think the other versions of the ride don't look as good; I think it is the thickness of the frame that makes it look far more imposing.

  7. Because Swing A is broken, and has been for years, is the correct answer. Weight and wind have little impact. It's to do with the piston rings allowing air pressure to escape.

I had no idea about this; very interesting. I presume the reason they haven't fixed this is because it would be an expensive replacement? Or have Thorpe just deemed the ride good enough as it is?
  8. Looking at that now, and how the train will be flying under the wing and between the two engines, it will most likely be a job for Merlin Studios to do. I wouldn't have though any four engine aircraft in existence has enough space between the two engines on one wing for a wing rider train to fit through with the required safety envelope to go with it.On the topic of pyro, if they could commit to maintaining the effect, maybe flames coming from an engine on the wing or something like that.

  9. Sorry I haven't looked at the plans in such depth.I understand that three trains or less can be a discussion point, but not how they would be stored or swapped?True, but it was pointed out that it didn't matter and it was great advertising. :)

It was a discussion on how they could be stored or swapped to discuss whether having a third train would be worth it or would even be able to be used. No one ever said whether the tank being fake or real didn't matter or not; I pointed out that Thorpe probably didn't envisage the tank creating that kind of "word of mouth" advertising.Does Raptor have any trims?
  10. Or if they have more than one maintenance bay, just move the train they don't want onto the transfer and into the shed and the spare train onto the transfer track and onto the ride. Why does this matter anyway?

The plans only show one maintenance track and it looks like it is just one train long (or the same length as the station atleast). It might not matter in many people's eyes but it is a discussion point for the ride; we managed to squeeze two pages upwards out of whether a tank for advertising the ride is real or not so... ;)
  11. I think what we need to remember is that after all, it will be 10 years old next year and unfortunately, some rides just don't age gracefully. I never really rode Colossus in its' early years so I can't comment on how bad it has become.

  12. Good find indeed. Looking back at the 3rd train speculation, I'd say that (please correct me if I'm wrong) the actual design of the ride just could allow for one if they had one.Help me out here but if there was a spare train stored in the shed and they did want to swap out a train in use for the spare, it looks like the only way they would be able to do it is by:

    • Run the train they want to take off through the course and onto the break run
    • Move the train that will remain in use in the station
    • Move the spare train out of the shed and onto the track
    • Move the train in the station out and onto the lift hill
    • Move the spare train into the station
    • Move the train they want to take off onto the transfer and remove it
  13. On that note, anyone else think the stations for these look really weird with the track sitting on the floor rather than recessed? I know it can't be helped because of the seats being so much lower, but it looks wrong! ;)

It does look very odd; seen a few station videos from Raptor and seems all they can really do is put a curved wall up against the track to prevent people from attempting to climb up and onto the track. Wouldn't put it past the chosen few idiots to give that one a try.
  14. Okay so we've since figured getting to 1000pph is possible but extremely far fetched. Out of curiosity, how often do they use 5 trains? And where abouts are any spare trains stored e.g. where is the transfer (no sarcastic comments saying "in the pyramid...")

  15. Well, one thing we can say about this tank is that it is definitely doing it's job for advertising; even if I'm not sure if it was Thorpe's aim to discuss whether the tank is fake or not... =/Definitely surprised that there are track pieces on site already! Considering the supports aren't even going up yet (or on site?) and don't even think all the footers are done.

  16. ^Long queues do not a good ride make...Tiny Truckers is always popular... Doesn't mean it's worth keeping on park...

Very true, but if it soaks up atleast a few guests and takes pressure off of other more prominent attractions then it is doing its job as a support ride.
  17. As long as the ride remains relatively popular (I went on July 4th and it pulled a 30 minute queue) and relatively cheap to maintain then they will keep it going.

  18. Well it looks good to me, the atmosphere is really taking shape. Has anyone got any pictures of track onsite? Also if a mod is reading this, why do a vast amount of my posts keep disappearing? I would atleast like to know why?!?

I always thought we'd come to the conclusion it was just reinforcing cages that were delivered but if not then that's awesome  Hopefully someone will be on park and manage one or two snaps soon.Probably best if you PM one of them, they'll be happy to help and they'll hopefully sort it quicker.
  19. I must say, a few need to stop moaning about the lack of story or theme! Look around you next visit! The only rides with a level of actual theme is stealth, saw, Colossus, tidal wave and Nemesis, alot of the flat rides are complete randoms! So just take a breather guys, I am sure thorpe park will increase X's potential! If they don't I will get a job there and do it myself!

I see what you mean but I think the point a lot of people are making is that atleast those other rides (theming or lack of it) have some connection to their names... X No Way Out, rave does not come to mind. But this is not an excuse for Thorpe to do some club tie in and call it Oceana and present to us the "World's first rollercoaster nightclub" ... but thinking about it, that would be epic!
  20. If it is diving near the water, do you think there is any chance of some water effect like synced fountains which make it look like the train is clipping the water. They do it on Manta at Seaworld and I think Raptor has it; it really is an amazing effect.
