  1. Wouldn't the visitor numbers be affected by the fact 5-6 million people, native and foreign were going to the 2 biggest sporting events on earth, The Olympics and Paralympics, I mean if Swarm was introduced in 2011 or 2013 it probably would of attracted more people because there wouldn't be a massive event distracting people if you can call it that. If a football world cup ever came to Britain again (highly doubt it) and it was the same year as when Thorpe opened a new roller coaster, the park would be dead as all the football fans and chavs will have disappeared (with chavs I'm not saying that's a bad thing) and the park probably would be quieter then normal and Thorpe probably wouldn't hit its target. Seeming the Olympics and Paralympics were on I think Thorpe did quite well :)

  2. I found this on oakwood's website:

Oakwood Theme Park is making use of discarded pallets and other waste material to create a series of useful new features including bike sheds and flower planters.

The recycling scheme is the brainchild of the Pembrokeshire attractions maintenance managers, Matt Abel.

Matts woodworking skills have helped him create a giant set of wooden planters in the shape of a train and a bike shed to encourage more cyclists to visit the theme park.

With such a large attraction we are always looking at ways to reduce our waste and increase the amount we are able to recycle, said Matt.

We have a number of old wooden pallets on site which werent being used for anything and it seemed a shame to just throw them away so I came up with the idea of creating something useful out of them.

The train was made up of old plant boxes that were removed from the park last season, we pressure washed to clean them up and made them in to a little train that has been planted with daffodils and other seasonal flowers to greet guests when entering the park

It was a lot of work but I'm really pleased with the results and I cant wait to see what the train flower planters look like when the daffodils start to bloom.

Hopefully the fact that we are able to provide a covered shelter for peoples bicycles will also encourage more cyclists to come and visit the theme park, he added.

As well as providing visitors with a floral welcome to the park, the wooden train will also act as a barrier to direct guests towards Oakwoods own miniature railway which travels around the park.

Oakwood Theme Park has announced ambitious plans for a massive new investment programme for 2013.

The Pembrokeshire attraction is to spend more than £4m creating a major new family park area. The new development will feature seven new rides and attractions, including a spectacular water ride alongside a series of childrens play areas and other themed attractions.

Pretty much confirms there will be seven rides including a spectacular water ride .... Hopefully It will be.

  3. towers times and towers street members have said these rumors have been going around. like I said I dont know if they are true or where they came from but that is what I was told on those respective forums oh and this is for bloody OAKWOOD.

  4. lots of rumors have been going around that a few rides including the log flume, knightmare, whirlwind and other camelot rides supposidly are coming to alton towers in dont know if these are true but this could be a good thing ?? I think it might

  5. I've only been on slammer once, due to the fact its broken down all the time but I can see it being there for five more years 7 or 8 at an extreme push. I think eventually soon then later people will lose interest like all rides, personally I like the ride but I think it will go soon :(

  6. You never know with the amount of rides being ordered I think there will be at least one thrill ride most likely non rollercoaster that will probably come next year or the year after but ye we can hope although I think there probably will be but even if I'm wrong I'm going either way

  7. Thats whats been said to me, but its not 100% yet, they said several rides in the official statement so that's atleast 4 rides, and other money to refurbish but they did that last year and the year before even though it didnt look like much so I still think and actually it says its going to be spend on the new attaractions and area its in. I just wanna know that you guys would like or expect there in terms of rides.

other money I going to a new restaurant ,kids play area and gift shop by the way, that is it though ;)

  8. Oakwood have ordered the rides and are going to reveal them this month and they will be ready and open by about April/May this year. There are about 5/6/7 rides that Oakwood have ordered, I think there will be some Huss rides like a Frisbee (standard, XL, or Giant but most likely standard) an enterprise (or even one of those Fly Away's) or a top spin. Then I think they will have some Fabbri or Zamperla rides. It would be nice to see a Vekoma boomerang or invertigo but I'm being optimstic. Anyway what does everybody think and what rides do you want there and what do you expect? :)

  9. I love how this has COMPLETELY overshadowed The Smiler's Name reveal. This act of so called desperation has got all of us talking so thorpe got the publicity it wanted and now the GP who have seen this will now want to ride it. Yes the queue system will probably be a nightmare but this gimmick almost certainly means more Dosh for Thorpe. Hopefully thorpe would have known Enthusiasts would disapprove so they will try and make it the best experience they've created so far... Even though the main reason behind it was to bring more customers in.

  10. Towers times have just released that there will be "The Smiler-The Game" app for iPod and ipad

    THE SMILER: THE GAME

Available on both iOS and Android devices, The Smiler Game App is set to bring The Smiler roller coaster to life, consisting of a full 3D recreation of the actual ride.

You will be able to take control of the ride cars and navigate your way around the track in as perfect a line as possible. Experience the intense thrills, twists and turns of the ride, with the opportunity to be rewarded with upgrade points to spend on a wide range of track upgrades.

Plus if you visit the Alton Towers Resort, unlock hidden content using Augmented Reality technology, with access to additional images, videos and secret upgrades for the game.

    Game launch date February 2013

  11. With the new swarm theming I was thinking what types of vehicles or transport they don't have and they don't have a normal car or a train. It would be awesome if you passed a crashed train. I'm just happy with the billboard but you never know
