Posted July 13, 200817 yr comment_29474 Does anyone know how to find the chained oak tree in Alton?I do. I went and found it last year.I was impressed by it's size. There is certainly some truth that the chains have been there since 1821.
July 13, 200817 yr comment_29483 Isn't it behind the Chained Oak B&B? The locals supposedly tell people where it is if you ask.I'm staying there during Scarefest this year, a trip down there at night may be on the agenda. Scared much.
July 13, 200817 yr comment_29484 Have arranged to go see it a couple of times, and ended up forgetting/being too pissed to like leave the hotel
July 14, 200817 yr comment_29516 Ive been there, its in the woods so its hard to give actual directions. Its down a path somewhere by the chained oak but its actually like a 10 min walk from there. Just a local, thats what we did.Its pretty awsome though, worth a visit.
July 14, 200817 yr comment_29564 There is a layby on the park side of the road opposite the Chained Oak B&B. Cross the road from the layby and there is a gravelly/ muddy path going down behind the guesthouse. It's about a 10 minute walk, you cant miss the tree on your right hand side in a big clearing.Me and Mum went there a couple of years ago. It's a shame those branches came down. Scarily though, the surrounding air did smell like the wafting aroma in the ride at the park.

July 15, 200817 yr comment_29692 Which apparently is the smell of mud! It's not like the smell of mud down here It's that musty type smell.
November 10, 200816 yr comment_38743 The Chained Oak isn't really that interesting. It's a tree thats half fallen over with chains on it and swastickas graffitied on it. The path down to it wasn't exactly people friendly either. It was still good to see it though after riding Hex earlier in the day.
November 11, 200816 yr Author comment_38872 If you continue down the path, past the tree, where does it take you?
November 11, 200816 yr comment_38881 Alton village near the shops, you drive past the other end of the path when you go through Alton.
November 15, 200816 yr Author comment_39364 Stone me, that's the last place I'd expect it to come out!
March 30, 201114 yr comment_112102 The path does not end up there. It ends up in a small nearby forrest/area called Dimmingsdale.
