SAW: The Ride
For those who want confirmation about ride areas being 'abandoned': (From questions to TP)Also, on last year's 'Behind the Loops' tour, it was said by TP themselves that, like Fever said, the park is becoming a 'Thrill Island' or an 'Experience Park'.

Thorpe Park Trip Reports
I usually go earlier on in the week (I also went on Tuesday) as I find that to be when the park is quieter. Will probably be popping down tomorrow and will give details of what it was like.

Your Thorpe Park
You always say that, but then you get carried away into a whole new idea. Not that I mind of course.Anyway, mine:2010) Ranger County is unfortunately out of place - so is re themed into a jungle land. As the park isn't concerned with themed areas much, it just means that the rides receive a small spruce up as well as new names as well as logos. The Fungle Safari is replaced by a ride like Bouncing Berries at Chessie (What are those types of rides called?) and is themed to a tree (well trees). The same queue line is kept - maybe extended - and, like Fungle, the ride is closed for FN when The Asylum is in use. The rest of the area is used for greenery, maybe just a quiet bit of grassland. A repaint of Samurai.2011) Over the closed season, Colossus was repainted and had the effects sorted out and a little bit more theming added. The entire entrance area is redone and the car has little extras (like ride models) scattered round to make the area look a bit nicer. A new coaster is announced for 2012.2012) A new woodie opens on the Treasure Island and infill island. The ride is themed as a dilapidated roller coaster that could break down any minute. The queue line shows timber which is broken parts of tracks. A bit like Oblivion, with the reassurance that the ride is safe, but with just announcements as opposed to being on TV screens. You are told the ride is 'safe as steel' and 'can't collapse'. However, ''newspaper reports'' throughout the queue line say otherwise - that 'wooden structures can't be built on islands' (you are repeatedly told you are on an island) as well as other reports about how 'wooden roller coasters have been deemed unsafe', etc. The ride station is on a similar style Colossus (in other words, a small building). The ride itself would have on board audio (yes, this is possible). The 100ft lift hill has the strange man who then says how the ride is still 'perfectly safe' and then a noise is heard which basically sounds like part of the structure underneath the train is collapsing. He then says how he knew the ride was 'a wooden junk yard' followed by a manic laugh and then the train goes off round the track. Typical track for a woodie, weaving throughout the structure, etc. and from time to time the manic laugh is heard. The ride ends with the train going through part of the ride and the man saying 'see, safe as steel' and the train then enters the station. (Perhaps even room for an on load and offload station). Of course, the main appeal for the ride itself would be 'Safe as Steel' - in other words, that's the slogan.

SAW: The Ride
To the best of my knowledge, SAW is still running without the MCBR trims. Well, it seemed like that on Tuesday - the dive loop was insane!

On-ride Photos
Decided to post this here rather than in the SAW topic:My on ride DVD on SAWEnjoy. (Sorry about the sound being out of time - it was how I uploaded it to YouTube).

MTDP
I was more focusing on ideas that are more appealing to the public as opposed to fans, but yes, that is true.

SAW: The Ride
Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry about that, where did Dragon Khan come from!? I shall change it now to avoid confusion...

SAW: The Ride
SAW will NOT lose its record for the steepest free-fall drop in the world. However, SAW will not (and actually is not) the steepest drop in the world. Currently, another S&S El Loco (like Flamingo Land's Mumbo Jumbo) in America called Steel Hawg has a 111 degree drop (do note, it is advertised as a 120 degree drop. It was changed but the advertisers didn't have enough time to change the adverts, etc.). When Mumbo Jumbo opens, with a 112 degree drop, it will be the steepest drop in the world. What makes SAW the steepest free-fall drop is the fact it is controlled by a brake on the drop, unlike El Locos. This means that El Loco drops are considered as controlled drops, and not free-fall drops. Basically, a load of Mumbo Jumbo (hence the name). And before anyone says it, the Screaming Squirrels LOOK HERE that is not considered as a drop as far as I'm aware. The saxophone elements on the ride are all brake runs that go round a drop, which thus classes them as a brake run, and not a drop.

SAW: The Ride
Just a thought regarding the holding brake at the top of the drop... has the idea been patented by B&M? (Thus meaning Gerstaluer can't use it on any of their rides).
-
SAW: The Ride
The only effect not working on SAW was the Billy Puppet at the end who congratulates you on being alive. Must say, the warehouse sounds rather quiet now, especially in between each scene.
-
SAW: The Ride
I don't think a holding brake would be that feasible on SAW. In the end, for it to be effective, it would have to hold at the point just before the tilt, which would then lose the intensity of the drop. In the end, I would have wanted a holding brake, the how feasible it is a different question...

Your Thorpe Park
Thanks for that. The Crazy Carnival idea is great! Judging by the success of SAW as well, another dark and scary themed attraction(s) would suit the park perfectly. Thorpe Park NEEDS to put you in charge of their future development plans or something...

Your Thorpe Park
Yes please. Your ideas are so well thought out it is very easy to imagine it and see them at the park. I always read them a good couple of times - they are brilliant! When your ready.

SAW: The Ride
In the end, SRQ worked well. Yes, it needed to be stricter sometimes, but overall, it did work well. I will admit that twice there was someone else with me and we did it to skip the queues - but that was because we didn't mind going on by ourselves and we felt it was pointless queuing so we could sit together when we could just fill in an empty seat. In other words, I used as it should have been used - I didn't abuse it. In the end, stopping SRQ will probably lead to more Fastrack sales, thus making the queue longer than SRQ would have done. Perhaps Thorpe should be slightly less penny pinching?

Your Thorpe Park
Although theme parks do look into the future, I doubt that look into it that deeply. They may think like this: 2010: We know we want a new flat. We have this space here, and this is a good idea, etc. 2011: Perhaps now is the time not to add a new ride and redo the entrance. 2012: New coaster. 2013: Hotel. 2014: New flat. 2015: New coaster. 2016: Replace X. 2017: etc. etc.The park don't know for definite what will happen, only some sort of rough plan. Anyway, how likely is it that Thorpe will want to build another 200ft (or higher) roller coaster? Stealth is the park's iconic coaster - it stands out (literally) above the rest - why add another to make it look like the ordinary?

SAW: The Ride
Unfortunately, SAW will no longer have SRQ on weekends and (as I interpreted it) on any peak / busy day.Went to the park today, no SRQ. Enquired about it. I was told that many people were using the SRQ to get on SAW multiple times with a minimal queue - it was like a free Fastrack. Now that Fastrack is in operation, the park have decided to stop using SRQ on weekends and busy days (peak days in other words). This may fall onto off peak days - is there a point when the queue isn't going to be too long?Honestly, I'm absolutely against this - very bad move. In the space of 5 minutes, I saw at least 8 empty spaces! Please Thorpe, make the right decision and bring it back - now!

Your Thorpe Park
I was under the impression that Thorpe park weren't allowed to build their next roller coaster (or any ride) above the height ceiling until after 2016 - not that they were planning to build another one in 2016. This is what I heard was the condition with Stealth - it could be built if it was painted a colour that blends in with the sky (white) and that they couldn't propose to build another coaster until after 2016. Anyway, back on topic, anyone want to share their Thorpe Park? Has ste193 got any more in depth, interesting ideas yet?

Detonator
I don't think it does honestly. The ride, I do believe, is unlike most drop towers, as it pushes you down as opposed to dropping you - thus making it very forceful. While making it bigger would prolong the ride, it would take away the forcefulness - something which should not happen...

Your Thorpe Park
Oh dear, rushing posts is not a good idea... What I meant was...2010: Colossus repaint, no new rides. Entrance re-done.2011: New woodie on Treasure Island annouced. New flat on Fungle spot.2012: New woodie, 2 new flats plus a FN maze.2013: Arena taken out for a new flat or two if Fungle area has not had a flat added.Sorry about that...
-
SAW: The Ride
I hope that have soon changes into a 'had' after what has previously happened - imagine if SAW was open for last year's FN when Fastrack was like water...

Your Thorpe Park
For the sake of it, I'm highlighting in bold anything that was wrong in your post there (this is intended as a joke that has probably gone too far... ) Anyway, quick over view of my ideas:2010: Colossus repaint, no new rides. Entrance re-done.2011: New woodie on Treasure Island. New flat on Fungle spot.2012: New woodie, 2 new flats plus a FN maze.2013: Arena taken out for a new flat or two.

I do agree there is some mistakes there - but nothing too drastic. What I'd suggest is installing Firefox or Google Chrome. This then means whenever you type in posts, it automatically comes up with words you mis-spell (like Microsoft Word). Also, loving your in-depth ideas.

SAW: The Ride
I do love how the lights go out as you leave the station - adding to the experience a bit more, feeling a bit unsafe when you see them...
