  1. PARK OPEN: 10:30am - 5pm (The park opens at 9:30am, but no rides until 10:30) RIDES CLOSED: Pirate Ship, Polperro Express, Tram Express (Pirate Adventure also closed indefinitely throughout this year). After seeing a half price ticket offer on the website, a last minute decision was made to visit Drayton Manor! I had visited once before, which was back in 2013 during the fireworks event. The day didn't get off to the best of starts; we arrived at around 10am (rides open 10:30am) and stood in a queue waiting for G Force to open. Just before opening time, a member of staff came out to tell us that it wouldn't be opening on time. Following this we went and queued for Shockwave, which was now building up a large queue due to G Force not being open. 10:30 came and went, and a staff member came out to tell us that it would be late opening! Fortunately after two test runs the ride opened and we got on. I also noticed that Air Race and Pandemonium opened late, which isn't great in all honesty. Aesthetically the park is in a fantastic state, with many of the areas looking much fresher than they did back in 2013. It is clear that a lot of time and money goes into making the park presentable, with clean pathways, freshly painted areas and well landscaped trees/plants. Great stuff! For the benefit of those who haven't visited Drayton Manor, I'll review a few of the rides. G Force receives a lot of negative reviews, but personally I love it! The sensation of hanging off the restraint during the lifthill followed by a pop of airtime (quite a lot of airtime in the back row!) is fantastic, and the two inversions that follow are forceful. My only gripe with the ride experience is that it isn't longer. Shockwave was enjoyable again - it surprises me how the standing up aspect doesn't have the effect you would expect, however there are a few very forceful moments such as the zero-g-roll. Apocalypse (drop tower) is still my favourite ride on park, however it was disappointing that the stand-up floorless is closed this year. I believe the park hope to have it back open next year, and as a result the area around it has been cleared out so that they can get a crane in to fix it over the winter. Air Race is the newest thrill ride, and one that I hadn't yet experienced. At first I actually found it quite relaxing which was strange - however unfortunately I felt quite sick towards the end (didn't help that I had a headache all day, so no fault of the ride). My verdict was that it was okay, but more of a family ride than a thrill ride. Purely for a point of comparison, I much prefer Skyforce. This brings me to The Haunting. It is a Madhouse attraction, which when I went on it back in 2013 was enjoyable, but a few areas looked a bit naff and the overall storyline was weak. The ride has had a complete overhaul this year, and it is now absolutely superb. There is a completely new pre-show video with a new storyline (now with "Doctor Ghostman" instead of the infamous "Doctor X"), and the idea is that you are researching into paranormal activity ("RIPA"). Inside the attraction itself there are some really effective new projection effects both in the second room and the Madhouse itself. There are also some classic gags as well, such as the skeleton coming from the ceiling in the corridor. Also, in the big room after the corridor, there is a great effect in the ceiling - don't miss it! There has been a complete overhaul of the attraction's lighting, with under floor lighting effects, UV effects in places as well as colour-changing LED's and strobes. As well as this, they are using Midnight Syndicate music throughout which creates a fantastic atmosphere. Overall I was hugely impressed with The Haunting, it is clear that Drayton have used their imagination with the refurbishment and it has really paid off. Ben 10 (Vekoma junior boomerang coaster) was also enjoyable, with some good forces on the forwards half of the ride. Stormforce 10 was good, a word of advice is to sit at the front if you want to stay drier - the backwards drop is a soaker! It amazes me how a ride system similar to Valhalla seems to run with far fewer issues, although the ride experience doesn't come close IMO! Maelstrom is great, the best flat at Drayton IMO. RIDECOUNT: Apocalypse x4 (Stand up x3, Sit Down x1) G Force x4 Shockwave x2 The Haunting x2 Stormforce 10 x1 Maelstrom x1 Air Race x1 Pandemonium x1 Chairlift x1 (great for views of the park!) Splash Canyon Rapids x1 (better than Rumba and Congo IMO) Ben 10 x1 Golden Nugget Shoot Out x1 Buffalo Coaster x1 Drunken Barrels x1 TOTAL: 22 Highlights: - Great to get back to Drayton after a few years! - The park is in a great state aesthetically and really clean. - Staff were all friendly. - The Haunting! - No fastpass system! Lowlights: - Operations were poor in the morning, but thankfully they did improve later in the day. - Slow dispatches on G Force all day, and a shame the ride only has one train. - 5pm close was too early, the park was as busy as it had been all day at closing time - 6pm would have been spot on. - A shame to see Pirate's Adventure closed. Photos! G Force; Shockwave; Air Race (taken after park close); The Haunting Stormforce 10; Some photos from the chairlift; Ben 10; "Vertigo" under construction, this will be a high ropes course; Thanks for reading.
  2. Good day at Drayton today. Will write a more detailed review tomorrow but just want to mention that The Haunting is absolutely superb now. There is a new storyline (no more "Doctor X"), some really effective new projection effects throughout as well as some classic gags and great new lighting both in the madhouse and the rest of the attraction. Also they are using Midnight Syndicate music throughout which creates a good atmosphere. It's clear that a lot of thought has gone into the refurbishment, in terms of a rating I'd give it 9.5 out of 10!
  3. Fantastic documentary, it is amazing to think of the impact Arrow had on the theme park industry.
  4. It looks like they've taken out part of the queueline in the second photo, probably temporary though. My guess is that "Luggage" is the bag drop room?
  5. I'd imagine the lack of detail in the review is down to Derren/Thorpe asking them not to give an opinion or details. Maybe it's just me, but I'm starting to wonder if there's maybe a bigger reason for the delay than last minute changes?
  6. It's subjective as to what each person enjoys in a coaster, with that said it was just a bit of light humour.
  7. I'm quite sold on the low number of inversions, personally I'm sick of coasters being built that just do inversion after inversion, it'll be nice to have some variety. It's also worth mentioning that fitting it around existing rides will have an impact on the layout - I would imagine that fast, tight turns with lots of airtime moments in places could be a possibility, which when combined with near misses with nearby rides should make for a brilliant coaster. 2018 could be a very interesting year for the UK with this and SW8 at Alton both opening.
  8. Nice to hear some further details, sounds like it'll be an amazing addition to the park and UK in general. One thing I love about BPB is the interaction between coasters, so it's great that this will continue with that!
  9. An interesting insight into how Inferno works. I understand the logic, but I think it's a huge shame that they are essentially being scared out of running their rides due to the media. In reality a lift stoppage is nothing to write home about - it's inconvenient, but is it really worth closing a ride "just in case" it happens? I would much rather Merlin took the confident approach and ran the rides the way they have been run in the past, rather than essentially being scared of their own shadows which is what this, along with various other changes across their parks appears to be.
  10. But has it happened at Thorpe before? If it was just one ride then I'd be more inclined to think it was a technical issue, but I've never seen light rain cause lots of rides to close at the same time at Thorpe. Hope it's not a reaction to all the rubbish media reporting causing the rides to close in the rain!
  11. That is true, but closing coasters in light rain is a bit strange. Maybe Inferno was suffering from the oil issue? It could be due to the awful reporting on Galactica's stoppage the other day but I hope not.
  12. Regarding the opening date, I think this weekend is looking unlikely now given that it's Wednesday and they haven't announced anything - could be wrong though!
  13. The worst thing about that video is that you'll never know if the elephant got them...

Detonator! Pizza Hut or Inferno Pizza Pasta?
  15. I noticed on my last visit during a 9:30am opening that several ride signs were displaying later opening times, for example Saw showing 10am and Rumba Rapids showing 11am. Whether this is a set in stone or a decision they make on the day I don't know.
  16. I agree, Thorpe seem to run an unadvertised staggered opening system at the moment which is poor (the fact that it's not advertised).
  17. It looked good before in my opinion - nice details on the posters and a rust effect on the metalwork etc. but still looking presentable. Now it just looks like most wooden walls/fences at the park already - but as you mentioned, it would look better if the mould idea hadn't been done before on several other rides/attractions. Guess I'm just fussy!
  18. I wish they'd left it looking nicer, that looks horrible.
  19. It's probably been mentioned already, but I've just noticed that the height restriction for this is 1.4m!
  20. I mean that instead of giving everyone who complains a Fastrack, they should actually look at what has happened and why, and look to improve this. Many of the problems occurring at Thorpe have been happening for years, and yet it seems that they show no signs of actually improving. King Nemesis provided context above for this particular situation. One boat on Tidal Wave?! On a hot day like this and with Loggers closed as well! Are they serious? Just to be clear, it's obvious to me that the engineers work very hard, but there clearly aren't enough of them to cope with the demand.
