  1. What surprises me is seeing the complete range of experience Vortex appears to give particularly when the ride gets "weaker" and doesn't reach a high swing height. Is it really plausible to think it's parts/motors wear out so quick as to require as much maintenance as we believe or it's mostly operator settings? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I've never had to witness a train being added/remove during operation. How long does it roughly take? Does it really hamper the throughput so much? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Wild assumption maybe but will assume DBGT is not a candidate for on ride video! For their indoor experiences it could be an idea to install cameras similar to YourDay which capture you and your group certain moments just to show the emotion and reactions at certain points. Obviously most of the moments maybe from transitions/corridors to the next section so as not to spoil what's inside but just a thought for the future Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If Samurai was running so well yesterday it might explain why it was knackered today and out of action. Poor thing, very little stamina

They likely didn't want to jinx it by putting the sign up because knowing their luck, it would have another significant amount of downtime soon after! Hopefully will see it back next season.

I think the only benefit in replacing it would be the hope that any newer model would have benefited from Mondial being able to implement lessons learnt from the current Samurai.

I think through Slammer, we have been given a good indication of the lengths in which Thorpe are willing to go to in order to keep their rides. Whilst Samurai's reliability record isn't spotless, I'd be shocked if it was as close to the scrap heap as Slammer has come.

If it was anything to be concerned about, no doubt it would be closed and not opened until rectified.

I believe the problems have been a combination of both throughout Slammer's life but I guess the most recent issues have been more mechanical. I think when a white paint substance appeared on various different joints and places on the ride structure, that would be as part of crack detection to ensure everything is sound structurally.

I'd rank the metal screeching sound that Detonator used to make at the top as much more disconcerting than a motor wining; it needed some serious WD40

Whilst I hear what people saying about it's poor throughput and does the ride itself pull guests in like Swarm or Stealth may do? No. But I have on many occasions, when having conversations with friends and family, the two rides which regularly crop up as truly scary rides are Detonator and Slammer; with many saying that Slammer looks too much for them. I'm not saying they should keep the ride just for show, but I would suggest that just the visual spectacle of the ride creates word of mouth for the park because it does look like a pretty mental ride.
  12. Again, I'm researching judgement until I see it myself. The amount of missed opportunities for more 3D thumbing and signage looks disappointing but I definitely feel like seeing it on a a sunny day will make all the vibrant colours pop and just look a little better.
  13. I never quite understood the flack it ever got. I'm indifferent about it, what was the main reason it got flack in it's early years?
  14. I can see them doing something possibly with the Angry Birds tune when you load the game... won't that get annoying very quickly.
  15. And I'm guessing a code LP is when the ride senses a restraint is under pressure, possible from a larger person, and stops as a safety feature?
  16. Hang on a tick, if this filming is really for Britain's Got Talent or any show like that, are we seriously classing the acts on that show as famous? Jeez the fame bar is getting lower and lower these days. But anyway, what were Merlin going to say? No thank you big studio guys, you can keep your money? Thorpe is a business, it's no longer their icon ride and it's promo for Thorpe no matter what show it ends up on.
  17. Looks like they are trying to cover a big ol' heap of ugly with an over sized TV. Let's call a spade a spade...

Good thing I was responding to Coaster Jamie about the lights being on in 2010 when it was backwards then...

I thought the main reason for operating for a time with lights was to reduce the amount of vomit induced shutdowns

You'd need a hell of a lot of speed, way more than Vampire will ever muster up, in order to get a swinging coaster car through a loop without cars flopping either side. Imagine being on Zodiac but not having enough speed for the car to remain out, yeah that'd hurt like hell.
  21. I dunno if I would say Rameses has always been reliable. It's certainly improved it seems but it has had its fair share of restraint problems and it seems to have chewed through many motors in its time.
  22. I think even if Thorpe did go for a Vekoma SLC at that time, I feel like a drop tower would have appeared at some point later on.
  23. Not too mention quite a flawed design. Unless things have changed since Deja Vu became Goliath but at least as Deja Vu it suffered frequent breakdowns.
  24. I have to say I had no idea about the almost purchase of a Vekoma SLC instead. If they had that then it would make Saw and Colossus feel like floating on a cloud.
  25. Ah yes, the oasis theme aka the result of an almighty slash in theme budget
