  1. Personally think that there is room for both types of advertising in this day and age. What percentage of Thorpes audience actually watches TV in the day and age of streaming? Probably less than you might think. That being said I agree that a professional marketing agency and Thorpe’s own social media channels should be doing far more. Also YouTube and social media focussed advertising seems non existent. Thorpe shouldn’t be relying on people like Jack, but using them as supporting acts as such.
  2. Agree, the layout is definitely unique. Just a shame that it is short. Never the less, great to see another big ride at the park. Let’s just hope that Thorpe bring a RMC airtime monster in at some point because I do think Thorpe are lacking an airtime machine.
  3. https://youtu.be/5gs58KGQZuY looks like land infill has began… and as previously suspected is being bought in lorries which will obviously add cost to the project. Positive that the infill has commenced and should progress rapidly given the number of deliveries seen in the video.
  4. Yeah 100% could have a big detrimental impact on the project if they can’t get it resolved soon. If they need to purchase all that infill, it will bring a big cost too which again will probably impact the project elsewhere in terms of budget **cough** theming **cough**, so let’s hope that’s not the case. As a side note, I’ve noticed the most recent planning application has now been approved, meaning that they can proceed up until vertical construction without any issue.
  5. Think there must be some change to the original infill plan, as the original proposed plan stated that stockpiled material generated from the site strip was to be crushed tested and used for infill. From recent videos it’s definitely evident that material has been stockpiled and crushed and from the most recent videos these stockpiled have now been consumed. I originally interpreted that as a sign that infilling had commenced, however if thats not the case then potentially the material has not passed the test and has been used for the roadways instead of lake infill. Will be interesting to see how this one develops, as most of the material was due to come from the site itself according to the original plans.
  6. Where have you heard the information regarding the infilling licence from? Pretty sure from most recent videos I have seen that infilling has already commenced. Important to remember that most of the infill is only temporary as the only bits remaining will be surrounding the supports in the lake.
  7. Having worked in groundwork’s and construction for a number of years albeit with absolutely zero experience in constructing rides, I can safely say looking at the construction plan that there is “fat” in the plan. That being said the critical path of the project will be the start of the piling operations scheduled to start month 6 of the project. If that can be started on plan then the rest will be recoverable. So when that starts will likely be an indication of likely finish time of the project. Judging by silkstones latest video I would say they are trying to prepare the site for access for the pile driving equipment as soon as possible. But this is but a hunch
  8. Not sure it would fit a big steel hyper… always thought a Mardi Gras or day of the dead theme would be great for when Thorpe build a RMC behind swarm island. 😉
  9. Yeah I didn’t originally read it that way… but I guess your right. But either way I guess the fact that they’ve put this clause in must mean that they are intending to release as little info as possible to the gen public until they have to
  10. A small development over on Runnymede planning. Thorpe have submitted an application to change a clause in the planning application whereby they can notify the planning department later in the project with regards the external materials of the project. Obviously they want to do all they can to keep it under wraps as long as possible. Delaying this until above ground work starts definitely buys them more time.
  11. Just looking back through the plans… I know the ride looks short, and it is which is frustrating, however it also features 4 drops greater than 100ft, it’s really gonna be a monster in terms of height compared to most coasters UK wide. Really looking forward to riding it.
  12. Merlin on the whole are poor at the theming. Thorpe in particular is very poor. Thorpe should really look to do themes that aren’t reliant on the whole area looking run down as well.
  13. I know, it will be so much better with lap bar too!
  14. Originally was going to be left as is, but plans changed to get planning permission. Most will be re removed and the coaster will be mostly over water. Should be breathtaking
  15. I’m sure we will see these areas getting investment at some point. The island behind swarm is actually pretty large and could house a really decent coaster. Pretty sure from the old MTDP it can go to 60m as well so potentially another large one in a few years. There’s also two more areas that are available to build on not currently used that are sizeable. So land isn’t really a big problem for Thorpe in this regard. However I don’t think throwing coasters at the park is what the park is crying out for IMHO
  16. When you look at how much space the beach and associated area take up, there’s great scope for a really nice centrepiece and plaza to be built that would look fantastic as you step out the dome. Then overhaul the dome to match. I remember a few MTDPs ago there was a plan to widen/ upgrade the entrance bridge. I don’t think it needs widening, but it could do with improvements. However I strongly think the park will see this as too much real estate to be wasted, and instead place a ride in this area. Looking at the rest of the park I do wonder when we might see a coaster on the island behind swarm island. Hopefully the long awaited woodie
  17. First post. Go easy on me!! For me, Thorpe really need to invest heavily in the entrance to the park. It’s the first and last impression that the park makes on guests, and it’s really not great. It really needs flattening, and then a great centre piece focal point building with plaza surrounding for themed events throughout the year etc. I don’t even think this area should have rides, it should be somewhere that is pleasant on the eye, engaging and there as a conduit between the outside world to the life inside the park. I always get that feeling as you walk into Alton towers with the lake in front of you and the towers in the distance, something I don’t think is felt at Thorpe, and whilst the lake etc can’t be replicated I’m sure an equally well designed centrepiece and plaza area of the park would help take people on a similar mindset journey as they enter and exit the park.
