John Smith
I've actually stayed in the Stratosphere Hotel, however we didn't go up to the very top (where the rides are) because it cost a stupid amount of money to go up there. When I go back there again, without parents, then it will be a must!Las Vegas in general has rides and rollercoasters everywhere- pretty much every hotel and casino has its' own. A very weird place indeed...

John Smith
Did you have fun? The stratosphere is quite a way from the main strip, what did you do?Ah well it must have been 2006.. I think. I was 15 at the time (so no gambling). We started off in Florida, did Disney and the Florida Quays for a week, then flew over to Las Vegas. We stayed in Las vegas for a week, although we didn't really spend that much time in the city itself.I'd estimate that the Stratosphere is about 10-15 mins walk away from the heart of The Strip? It's just an example of a place that is truly based entirely around excess and money, and totally different from any other city in the U.S. or world probably. We didn't do any of the theme park attractions whilst there, which was a pity (and I was nagging a hell of a lot at the time!)Did you ride Speed in the Sahara Hotel? That's the one that took my fancy. It's like Stealth, only with a loop, and a guaranteed roll-back! Did you enjoy your visit? Nah, we didn't spend nearly long enough in the city- my parents were more into the whole "lets go see scenery" type holiday. One day we drove to Death Valley where the temperature was getting on for 30+, and on the same day we were up a mountain (Mt. Charlstone - you can see it from LV) in a blizzard getting on for -10! That was kind of a cool day. It'd be nice to live in the States, they do really have it all.

We went to the grand canyon one day and I loved it! Also on the way to the grand canyon we took a tour in the hover dam (found that especially interesting as I want to become an engineer.) Also went on the grand canyon skywalk. That was an experience and a half! We stayed in the MGM 2007 and the Belagio 2008 and hope to go to the Wynn this yearThanks
Tom
I remember a planned 'top to bottom' coaster on the Stratosphere Tower that never happened (boo) but Las Vegas still found a way (maybe): Clicky.
pluk
Looks pretty good. I was talking to somes staff up there about why they got rid of the 'High Roller' coaster that used to snake around the top of Stratosphere and he said they were still bitter about it. Quite a lot of the preliminary work was actually carried out to instal that top to bottom, including High Roller removal and strengthening of the structure, before the plug got pulled. alexander
I think I remember we tried to go up there and they said it was $10 just to go up (not incl. any of the rides). So we didn't bother, wish we kinda did though.
coastercameron98
The roller coaster at the top was removed for a number of reasons, one was that it was the least popular ride on the tower, another was that it derailed over the edge once but there were safety screens underneath the track to catch them. Also it was getting old and very rough causing some injuries I think as a result of the bumpiness and cramped cars it was an unpleasant experience for most. I have never been up the Stratosphere but I do hope to in the future. This information has been sourced from my Dad when he went up the tower in-case you were wondering how I knew this stuff. pluk
The roller coaster at the top was removed for a number of reasons.... another was that it derailed over the edge once but there were safety screens underneath the track to catch them. That did not happen, if it did this would not be the first place it was documented on the internet. The only thing like it I am aware of was the failure of a wheel assembly which meant riders had to be rescued from the train, passengers or trains were not caught by netting and didn't fall! It may have been crap, it may have shut all the time because of wind (like everything up there does!), it may have needed a refurbishment, but it was safe and operable at the time of its closure. Sorry I may have blown that a bit out of proportion, I was told that it crashed and one of the wheels came off, I didn't mean to say it was a full on crash/derailing. didn't mean to make it sound like that Pluk. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Roller_(Stratosphere)#Closure_and_removal go down to the ride experience bit and it says about the wheels coming loose and derailing. pluk
Whiteknuckle
I was lucky to have 3 days in Las Vegas last year with the RCCGB. We had an ETS (Exclusive Tower Session) before the public started coming up. First was the Big Shot, probably not as high as Ice Blast, but when you are already 900 feet in the air, makes for a truely unforgettable experience. Next up was X scream, the See Saw type ride. I wanted to get a front row seat, but had to make do with second row. probably the best flat ride experience I have had the chance of riding. I was'nt impressed with Insanity and chickened out on the Skyjump, though was fun watching some members taking the plunge. Was just a bit disappointed that the High roller was'nt there.
