  1. Interesting, it could have been a combination of both (brakes and wind) but I guess there's no way of telling for sure. I do find it bizarre if Smiler didn't have a wind metre of its own, especially considering that element is prone to stalling.
  2. That is very true, but if you go back a few years the event ran with five high calibre mazes. Whilst I agree that MBV was dross last year, I still think an indoor maze shouldn't be replaced with something that takes place mostly/partly outdoors unless the standard of said attraction is outstanding. This is Cabin's fourth season!
  3. I can't believe that out of the hundreds of people who were stood in the area, no-one thought to call 999 - and the people who prioritised filming the incident over using their phone to call for help should be ashamed of themselves. I'd like to pick up on a few quotes from the BBC news live feed; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-england-stoke-staffordshire-37371229 These two on their own are bad enough, it really hits home that with competent procedures, this terrible incident would not have happened. Don't think anything needs to be said here. How on earth wasn't that thought of? Surely there would have been a wind meter in the station which would have told them the wind speed was too high? As much as I've been quick to defend Merlin in how they handled the situation, I find it shocking that so many operational and safety aspects were overlooked, and the fact that people's lives have been changed because of total incompetence.
  4. I hope it'll be better than that considering it's replaced a scare maze. The standard of this attraction needs to be very high IMO.
  5. Generally between 35 - 45 minutes depending on traffic.
  6. Though the way it happened was already known, it's really difficult seeing it there. It was so easily avoidable.

  8. I'm not sure how they can justify an increase in price given that the value of the product has been reduced significantly at Alton Towers, Thorpe Park and Chessington. For the first time ever I'm unsure about renewal.
  9. I like how they've included the Roaming Actor route on the park map, nice touch! Agreed with comments that it feels very much like one half of the park is Halloween and the other isn't, hopefully there will be some parkwide theming and possible actor "shows" (like the fire eaters by Stealth if that's happening this year?) to make up for that.

I noticed that the rockwork around the first half of the ride has been removed. It did look rather tired, so let's hope it is replaced this winter! Actually, it would be great to see Rumba get a refurbishment. The name and music are fine, but it would definitely benefit from a spruce up IMO.
  11. My favourite so far is "dat looks like the 'arry potter' train" as we walked into the main building on Derren Brown's Ghost Train

I just wish they had been honest from the start. I really hope I'm wrong, but I'm not sure it has much chance of reopening given the state it's in; (Photos taken from within public boundary) A quote from the park; Read that, then look at the photos above. I could be wrong (very often am!), but I'd bet my bottom dollar that it hasn't been touched since last year. Here is the official line on the website; Out of action for 2016 "while is't being rennovated?" The way it's worded sounds like rennovations have been taking place throughout 2016, which going by the current state of the ride, would seem not to be the case. Also let's not forget this; That at least confirms that something will open on the Loggers site next year (doesn't actually confirm if it's a Loggers refurbishment or redevelopment of the land), so let's wait and see if that actually happens.
  13. http://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/pleasure-island-theme-park-to-close/story-29738706-detail/story.html Sad news, it's always a shame to see a park close and yet another bad sign for the UK industry. Gutted that I never got to visit, and unless a miracle happens I won't get to.
  14. Agreed with this, there is no need at all to hurl abuse at a staff member over something that is; 1. Beyond their control 2. Something you should have checked anyway Calling someone a "legend" for acting like that is laughable.
  15. Not sure I like the sound of "terms and rates"!
  16. I don't find that funny at all.
  17. Long queues are pretty much inevitable given that the four coasters at the park all have pitiful throughputs. If they were all run on their (previous) maximum capacities then queues would be much more manageable - but operations on the coasters have been the slowest I've ever seen them on my two visits this year. I'd be interested to know the throughputs of Fury, Rattlesnake and Vampire this year compared with the highest recorded throughputs.
  18. From Thorpe's Facebook: Maze?! Will it be extensively modified or is this just a marketing phrase?

If those pictures are showing the actual maze then it looks fantastic!
  20. Really? I used the £10 voucher last year and it was fine, and I asked if it would be valid this year and they said yes, but if the park is full to capacity then it doesn't guarantee entry. It might be worth messaging the park's Facebook page as they are usually quick to respond on there.

Not sure which train sorry, but it was the back row the first time and four rows in from the back on the second time.
  22. Fair enough, must have remembered it wrong.
  23. The Fastrack queue for Ghost Train was in use today when it first opened, I'm not sure if it was an organised event or whether they sold Fastrack tickets because I was under the impression that it wouldn't be used until next year? The batching was in favour of Fastrack and as a result, the main queue moved at a snail's pace for the first hour of the ride being open, causing the line to build up to the ride entrance which wouldn't have otherwise happened! It took us 40 minutes from just before the last straight section of the queueline.
  24. Queueline and interior audio was working today. Shame the headsets were still glitchy though, and we were looking at the green screen for about 10 minutes! So many people had taken the headsets off the staff had to tell everyone it was about to restart.
