Missed this last time. It's a few years ago but from what I hear most of what is in this old trip report is still pretty valid. In short; if it's busy it will be awful. If that is the case get there early and get Oz'Iris in early. I understand how busy it will be (or more how the park can cope with the numbers turning up) is very much influenced by the weather once the park drops down to weekend opening towards the end of the season as they plan for these to be 'off peak' and staff numbers are low; pray for a dull day! There's a good few shows and non-trill rides. As much as I abhor paid queue jumping I think it would be a worthwhile purchase if you get there and it is busy. I think there's a cheap F1 place quite nearby, but there are no hotels on the door step and the park is accessible only from the main road A1 with its own exit. The place I stayed was pleasant and not a long drive. Good luck, you might need it!

And after so many years of no decent dark rides being produced in the UK the last thing we need is this one not being able to deliver, hardly going to create any appetite for more to be built in the industry. The same fear I have for the lame looking Towers woodie. This all feels a little short sighted.

I've not been on ghost train yet as I've been away. Seeing some of the reliability problems I think I'll wait until the end of summer before giving it a go now, yet things calm down and the problems work themselves out. Surely the headsets are just plug in things and pretty easily interchangeable? Wasn't it blindingly obvious they would require maintenance with constant use and there should be a hefty supply of spares to rotate round as some require work? Seems a bit short sighted to have a significant number of seats out of use due to headsets after just a couple of weeks of opening.

This looks so good. Firechaser looked to me to be one of the best new coasters of the last couple of years, was hoping to have one here soon. This will certainly be enough to get me back to what was an absolute hell hole of a place last that I swore I'd never return to last time I went.

I find mocking those around me passes the time quite well.

If I could issue warn to other team members...

If I wanted 4.5 I'd go to a pleasure beach. Here's hoping for a trouble free media safe opening.

I'm yet to try the new area, but even without that this was the best in the UK. Glad it has been recognised and hope this helps their development continue. One good sized adult coaster and a better flume or rapids and they'll have everything covered really.

Maybe I'm just in a good mood, but have been completely smitten with Tripsdrill today too. Lovely place, and Karacho is a winner. Wine cellar has been well used. Only slight negative was Mamut being a bit of a disappointment, still fun though and improved over the course of the day. To the waggon for a glass of red and some sleep, if a can drop off to the sound of bleating goats.

I was massively impressed with Holiday Park yesterday, thought it was a fantastic park with two standout coasters. Ge-Force is the kind of insanity I like, and having not been expecting much from it sky scream is great. The newer theming stands out against some of the old tired stuff, but they are clearly getting the whole park up to standard gradually and it looks great. If Plopsa are I'm an aquiring mood could someone point them I'm the direction of Oakwood, or Chessington?

I'm pretty sure Maurer are doing just fine and trading, but they are just splitting their business divisions and news of this this somehow got lost in translation to English. If this Pinfari is the best they can do then a skyloop would be waaaay out of reach to buy or to run with the power it uses. A more realistic option would be something like a skyfly, having ridden one yesterday I'm firmly of the opinion that every park should have one!

The head of the liberal group in the parliament, former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt: This. This is why people voted out. Not because they are racist halfwits somehow brainwashed by Boris and Nigel, but because they have made an informed choice with a basic understanding of how the European Union operates, and they don't like it. There are of course racist halfwits on both sides of the argument, but the remainers insistence that they actually know better and are right, rather than understanding the reality that they merely have a different opinion and there is no right answer. The fact that a few million remainers thought it was a good idea to sign a petition to change the rules of the referendum after the event shows that in reality they may not be the most intelligent side after all.

As are all dark rides really. I agree it would be better if detailed descriptions weren't out there, it is entirely possible to review it without spoilering the hell out of it, but thinking that this wouldn't happen is a bit of an unrealistic expectation. The best that can realistically be done is to mark it up as spoilers and let people make an informed decision whether they read it or not. It's only themselves they are effecting by reading it.

If we're doing requests, I'd like the Inferno dispatch bass to be loud enough for me to be able to hear it at home in Essex.

Planning for a Thorpe Park Trip in about two weeks
pluk replied to Mermalizer's topic in Your Planned Trips and Reports
Over two days I shouldn't think you would need to worry about buying fastrack, especially as you have it for part day on day two. Save your money (and the small part of your soul you sell to the devil buying it) for something else. Looks likely DBGT will be open for you! -
It woud be nice, but don't get too excited! That 'hope to' is very non committal for something that appears to have had nothing done on it for 8 months. Like when Chessington 'hoped to' retheme Falls without ever doing so.

I believed the sign remained up yesterday and will do until it moves from technical rehearsals to fully open. I have high hopes you'll get an opportunity today...
-
If your going to do something, do it properly - go get yourself tecnics 1210 mk2. I got mine in about 98 and they're still going strong, literally pitch perfect! The sound on them is inedible compared to lesser turntables. They're practically indestructible, I'd say you are better off with a second hand 1210 than a new cheap thing.

Pleeeease don't give it all away. It's got to be possible to give a flavour of it and what you like and dislike without spoiling the secrets. Think of it as if you were reviewing one of Derren shows. For those of you who have seen him live (and that should be all of you!) think how less enjoyable it'd be if you knew what was coming, so on the whole people don't give it away. Let's keep it in that spirit.
-
You can say what you want, but giving away too may secrets is discouraged. Certainly nothing wrong with saying what you thought of it and why...

I've read 6/10's up to 9/10's with the average somewhere around 7. And one 14/10 which I presume was supposed to be for Tarron. Quite a mixed bag, depending on your expectations I guess. Any rating or non 'secret spilling' review from the few who have ridden it? I know there's a couple here @cianjs @Martin.C?

Who are theses people? I DEMAND A REVIEW!

I don't want to argue about what is arguing, because that would be mental, but this isn't arguing! It's a discussion forum, we discuss things from differing points of view. It'd be pretty boring otherwise! I admire your optimism and positive outlook, but please don't tell me to 'deal with it' as if I'm moaning for the sake of it. I'm not all sunshine and roses about the parks for what I believe are very good reasons. You questioned why the negativity on this thread about this project; there are other places for this discussion but as you brought it up here, this is where the reply is. The mention of the other issues are to explain why some people feel like this, to put my thoughts into context, to explain why history and the current situation do not give rise to optimism. If this delay was in isolation I don't think anyone much would care, but it's just the current top of a very big pile of problems. To reiterate, I still think DBGT will be very good in the end, it could be amazing if it's done right. But excuse me for not blindly expecting it to be the 'omg industry game changer' which has been promised and not delivered so many times before, and a little being cynical about the delay from a company that doesn't seem to be able to mange projects. |6 months ago, pluk said: | This looks good |6 months ago, everyone else said: | Yes,I agree TOPIC LOCKED

And I very rarely do visit these days in all honesty, I no longer have a MAP and will only venture in when when it's quiet so my day is not fastracked to death by all around me. But I will always visit to an extent, I can't help enjoying the rides in spite of everything! I find it very difficult to believe someone visiting Chessington for the first time since the late 90s wouldn't be heartbroken. The Smiler may have been popular, but the way it opened late was damaging and badly handled at the time. Although the incident was a failure of operator and not the ride I'm sure the issues it had from the very poor build are what created an environment for that mistake to happen. The station building is falling apart already with great swathes of light from the gaps in the walls in what is supposed to be the dark section, the effects are persistently broken even though they are new, the queue line is a mess that often floods. It goes on. The fact that such mediocrity in delivery can lead to such perceived 'success' as an attraction says a lot more about the state of our parks than it does about the quality of that ride. Galactica destroying the throughput of an otherwise decent coaster with funding for 2 years for the tonnes of staff needed, while other attractions close because of staff funding, Zoofari being a joke, NST being poor, then OK for a bit, then closed, IAC with its double digit throughput, Th13teen doing its trick well but everything else poorly, Storm Surge being a pathetic eyesore, What these have in common is being just about good enough to get the punters in for a couple of seasons with some strong marketing, but nothing that actually has underlying quality to get people returning or to deliver into the future. And all the while the older attractions are simply not cared for. Turn it on its head; when is the last time a park in this country did something and made you go 'oh, wow!'? Truly surprised, amazed or impressed you? This is going off topic. I really do think that DBGT will be good, from what we've seen so far I have faith in the project to deliver in the end, but there should be no surprise that there is scepticism about what is to come and disappointment that a couple of months after advertised opening there is a distinct lack of it being open.

The negativity is borne out of a wider frustration. There aren't many people here who want to do the parks down, but knowing what they have been and what they could be it's hardly surprising there's a lack of positivity when the whole estate is run so ineptly. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy a day out at a theme park, but it's almost like they don't actually want me to. That's more general to the tone on the forums but to relate it to DBGT, this is far from the first time Merlin have royal ballsed up their investments. If you want heartbreaking it's what our parks now are, not us discussing it. They were wonderful places and could be again. But there is nothing wrong with spreading some excitement if you've got some left! Just don't expect everyone to come along with you; there's some damn good reasons why they won't.
