  1. The ride has had a lot of efforts made within it and I strongly hope it will remain at Thorpe for some time. This is ride I love for the sensation of it feeling unsafe and fast at the same time.

  2. Why is this work being done during open season though? Surely it should be done during closed season. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

As Han said, they were probably putting Zufari as main priority of the work. Another thing that comes to mind is that the theming on falls & RT has been in a dire state for at least the seven years I've been going and it questions me as to whether these closures may have been a last minute occurrence which perhaps they were condemned unsafe just before the 2013 season.

The thing I don't get about chessington, is why all their rides have such low throughputs. The only exception appears to be dragons fury. I don't know whether this is due to the staff or just the rides having terrible throughputs but in general they are awful. In particular this seems to be monkey swinger, vampire, Kobra and tomb raiders. The queues are always so short(in terms of length) and would be 5-10 mins on a ride at thorpe however they are 30 mins+ due to their rubbish throughputs. This is definately a case with lack of staff on monkey swinger but not sure about the others(of course vampire is now only on 2 trains!) The only ride which has a long queue length these days is dragons fury and that is the only ride which has the queue time it deserves!

Fury's throughput isn't that brilliant either as I think it used to be 700/800 but nowadays it's closer to 500 which for a primary coaster is rather disappointing. Vampire used to take around 900 on 3 train op which was probably quite good with queues when it was (don't I rode it on 3 trains) but now it around 600 as it only has just 2 which could be even less with apparent slow operations.

The only rides I think that have high throughputs there are Falls, Tomb Blaster, Buccaneer and Zufari (which is sadly ruined with the photo queue and pre show to be a good throughput one). Chessington needs more big rides that take 900 pph and Vampire's 3rd train to comeback, the park in my view is the worst Merlin park for throughputs at the mo.

  3. Fighting over queues on the ride, how stupid. It's a themepark, don't people know to expect queues at these places especially during peak season. Some people get too far these days and its guests like those that ruin enjoyment for everyone.

At least the park banned them permanently and they seemed to control the issue quite well.

  4. I was thinking, because the Swarm queue is so awful (especially in the station) with the front and back row mess ups, but would it be better that instead of having the two separate queues they just make forwards and backwards one queue and when it reaches the baggage area, a staff member asks if you want to go forwards or backwards and then allocates you to the designated choice. Just an idea.

  5. Sadly I never got too experience the old Chessington as my visit was 2006 but from what I've heard and seen, here's the strong points of each,

    New Chessington /

Wild Asia (nicely themed area and better than clowns (which scare some children))

    Zufari safari attraction

    Dragons Fury & Rattlesnake coasters,

    Old Chessington/

    5th dimension looked original

Vampire looked better then someday ran better too,

    Railway

    Better looking older rides

  6. In my opinion, Merlin are good but not great.

They do very well in advertising and PR stunts as well as general investment. They have installed some rather good rides such as Smiler, Swarm and Zufari but also some bad ones too such as Storm Surge and the now closed Time Voyagers.

There up keep on rides is not the best as there are several attractionss that do need some TLC including Colossus, the flume and in theory, half of Chessington's primary and secondary rides.

  7. Here's the way I see it,

    Reasons for using 2 trains/

    Faster throughput

Takes a while to take train 2 off

More rides for people in the night.

Reasons why they may not use 2 trains/

    Greater expense of running

    Trains need frequent inspection

    Not enough people there

  8. My gosh, today has been a terrible day for themepark accidents. First the death on the New Texas Giant and now this boat overturning on the log ride at Cedar Point.

I just hope those involved on the overturning boat are all fine and make a swift recovery as the death on the giant is already bad enough news for accidents. I feel sorry for the woman's children as they are now without a mother, I just hope they're grown up.

In terms of how the boat overturned, I have no idea how it happened but maybe the chain snapped and pushed the boat back down. I do remember visiting a park in Spain a few years back and the belt apparently snapping and the boat crashing in to the next boat below. It could've well been bad friction instead.

As for the giant, I can only see this being the cause of either a faulty restraint or poor safety checks unless the woman breached the safety warnings. I don't know what they could do to the ride to improve safety as there doesn't seem to be anywhere where they could place OTR and the only other thing I can see them do is add seat belts or stronger shoulder restraints.

Not a good day for ride news and I hope it can all be sorted.

  9. Looks okay, but doubt its anything brilliant in terms of experience and appearance. The rides probably marginally better than the old mouse coaster but it looks rather plain. Can't see it exceeding 500 pph throughput.
