I'm Not negative towards it. I was stating that it is highly highly likely to involve screens. I don't think screens are bad either, they can add details real items cant. You have taken it as negative when in reality I'm for the idea of a dark ride, especially if it is doctor who. I don't want another coaster, a dark ride will do the park some good. So before you all start having a go at me again about being negative at least hear my actual opinion. All I was trying to get across is some sense. We are not going to get a £100m investment with full anamatroics it will be a compromise which will be interesting to see how it turns out.
-
We all know that the budget for this ride will be no more than a few million over the largest investment by merlin. It will probably be around the £30m mark, it would be very surprising to see it more than this amount and that would most likely, knowing merlin, include everything. Now when I said real theming, of course I was referring to anamatroincs , it would be a very boring ride to have room after room of stationary objects made of plaster. Therefore to have the sort of dark ride which they are calling a high investment I would expect screens, not necessarily animation. If it is an IP then it would expect it be made by filming actors, especially if its doctor who. Thorpe have decided to go down the dark ride route which is fine and I look forward to seeing what comes of it, however to say that it wouldn't have screens when we are in a world dominated by them sounds crazy to me. Why spend money on up keep to falling apart physical structures when you can film/animate something and keep it in that condition forever.
-
I am 99% certain it will involve a mix of screens and real items.
-
It is highly likely that the ride will contain screens with the mix of some physical stuff. The budget just doesn't allow for all out real theming.

Moffat solved the limited doctor problem. I'm pretty sure thorpe could do it justice. They would have been in talks with the BBC to ensure they don't ruin it as I'm sure the BBC would also be worried.

I think slammer is being slammer. The amount they spent on it last time then no matter what the issue is I would expect it to be fixed.

I imagine that nemesis inferno only opens on 1 train every time I go is because I normally only go on a sunday. Where engineers must have a different schedule.
-
Thorpe did want a water ride in that spot but I do hope that it isn't. The weather for the UK should tell Thorpe that no one wants another water ride in the park
-
You are telling me that out of the last 4 times I visited it was a complete coincidence that swarm opened on 1 train and the second was added at 1pm. That to me sounds like they are being impacted by a lack of staff. I'm also assuming that it was a coincidence that 90% of my trips this year nemesis inferno started on 1 train. If parks in america which have 10-18 coasters can have full train operation on every ride everyday then why cant Thorpe. It used to be able to last year but it cant manage it this year.

Wouldnt mind a doctor who ride themed around the weeping angels. That sort of theme would require a similar building to a warehouse like the episode blink and it also gets merlins IP. That would also provide a need for a preshow and would have enough significance for an on ride photo and shop. It would also be an easy theme to pull off and still be scary/fun at the same time.

Only guest services and the never ending priority passes is the part I was calling shambels. The rest is just below my expectations. Especially for a park trying to reduce queues and then it goes and starts the busiest ride in the morning on 1 train. That is the sort of thing that annoys me most. The park does have good rides but is let down with the operations which can be improved. March/ April the park is far better and really enjoyable as they can cope with that level of guests however much beyond that and the park starts its annual trip down the same slippery slope.

Sorry what? When did I mention the problems I have with Thorpe are mechanical problems? I know things are hard to fix, I'm studying civil engineering so I think I have a pretty good idea, maybe not as good as a mechanical engineering but I still have a pretty good idea on how hard some of these things are to fix. My problems with Thorpe lie with the operation side of things. The one train starts, the over selling fastrack and the shambles they call guest services. I know they they are hard things to get right however lots of other parks manage it just fine and Thorpe used to manage it just fine. So they do have fixes which Thorpe, for whatever reason, have decided not to implement.

You know it could still be DW that plaza structure is rather TARDIS shape. I don't think we can rule out doctor who theme just yet. Even through I know a lot of people would like it to be.
-
I used to like Thorpe and thus joined the forum. However after years of park failings it gets tiring. If they were different problems year on year that would be fine but they are not. Its the same problems year after year after year. Not only that but the problems are ones with simple solutions and Thorpe always try odd ways to fix them. Also I much prefer speculation topics, its the reason I still use the forum. On another note you cant have a debate if you all agree, you need someone with an opposing view.

Doesn't mean I cant have a negative opinion about them. I like the rides and once did like the park, however I was pointed in the direction of overseas and Thorpe dropped a lot in my rankings. Also oblivion has a gate at the side of the shop which in the last 2 days, at least, has been open.
-
Slightly concerned about that building theme, hopefully it will change to something more intresting than another doom and gloom ride. Also alightly worried about how flat it all is, 10m isn't exactly high and thefear of lasers is quite high. However saying that it may be what thorpe need as long as it has a good throughput. Also I wouldnt be surprised to see that single rider queue become a disabled queue.
-
I know towers still wants my money, but at least they don't force me through all the shops. I feel that Thorpe wins the money squeezing award with alton in a close 2nd. Also alton doesn't get the queues of Thorpe, I just spend my day on oblivion.
-
Thorpes only good aspect is the rides. I can think of very little else I like about it apart from summer nights. Alton actually has atmosphere and shows it slightly cares about you rather than thorpes I want all your money.
-
I was at alton all day, only came across 1 minor break down all day. Reliability will be strongly influenced by thorpes under staffed engineer team.
-
I am aware of this but the complaint to guest ratio is far higher than a normal day. Also another thing which proves there is more complaints than usual is that guest services are aiming to reply in 10 days rather than the normal 7. Even in the peak of summer they still aim to reply in 7 days. Yes many guest will still have enjoyed the experience (even if they didn't get on much) but there will also be the people who didn't like it but haven't complained.

The island behind swarm has far more relaxed planning permission on it witch is currently a 50m coaster which is 850m in length. If they want a dark ride putting it there would prevent a coaster of that size from going in the park. They will want to save that.
-
I'm sorry but every point that person raised is invaild. Who cares if its in the small print, the point is it shouldnt be. Paying £700 on thorpe a year instantly means your a nutcase. Someone direct them towards eurpoa park please. Also I'm imclinded to agree that this year seems to be have been poor. Apart from two out of about 20 visists the park has been very quite and considering how I can only ever visit on a weekend that seems to imply that this year hasnt been too good in numbers. Yes fright nights has been heaving but I dont think that is a good thing. All its done is generate a lot of complaints and given thorpe a bad reputation.
-
I more meant that merlin with their budget only need to aim for good rather than great. Yes great would benefit them more but being only good is still fine for their business.
-
No I dont, I was meant to be at cwoa today but had no way of getting there. So I have a day of nothing planned.

Unless you have pre-booked they wont let you in. Is the tesco voucher a ticket or something to exchange for a ticket?
