  1. Do you have any evidence for that? On RCDB it says 1.9, on Wikipedia it says 1.8, so I'm not really sure what to believe, although it doesn't make that much of a difference to me. Are you sure it'd be legal for Thorpe to say they increased its acceleration and then just not?
  2. Death to All but Metal by Steel Panther - honestly one of the funniest songs I've ever heard. 3. Firstly sorry for double post, but there's something I've found confusing on the Oblivion wikipedia page. It says:# Highest drop: Approx. 60 metres (180ft)# Height Above Ground: Approx 20 metres (60ft)which would mean that more than half the drop is underground (unless I've interpreted this data wrong). If you look at this image, though, it looks as though there's actually relatively little of the drop underground:Anyone care to clarify?
  4. Anyone just watch the Gadget Show? Didn't think it was anything particularly spectacular apart from BUILDING YOUR OWN COASTER SIMULATOR!
  5. The best thing about Thorpe is undoubtedly Alfonso (let us have another ride on Saw when we got stuck in one of its notorious breakdowns for ~15 minutes)! There was one staff member on Samurai whose name I didn't catch, kind of lanky guy. We went on for the last ride of the day, but there were only three of us queueing, and of course Samurai needs at least 15 riders. So even though it was about 4.57 as the park was nearly closing, he went down to the start of the queue and started shouting for people to come on and ride ('please come on Samurai, I love you!')! And he was generally just a funny guy. Apart from that, I suppose the only other thing I could think of would be the rides themselves.

Firstly you couldn't be more off-topic (but granted it isn't really your fault that you're off-topic in this instance). Secondly it's still all about opinion. Because a critic says it's the best thing ever, doesn't mean it's true (Sacrament by Lamb of God, anyone? ), and vice versa. Reviewers for coasters online are probably no smarter or no more in the know than you are. Just trust your own opinion safe in the knowledge that they're wrong
  7. Unless you count Thunder River, then Logger's is the oldest. Or Sunken Garden. If you counted Thunder River then by the same token I guess you'd also count Flying Fish (from when it was Space Station Zero).
  8. Not all chavs are c*nts though. Maybe people should stop getting offended about tiny little things - teenagers are often annoying and offensive, even if they're not chavs. If you're safe in the knowledge that you're not a mug who'll annoy someone you're going to be spending >1 hour with in a queue, then no need to get offended.
  9. Am I making it up or did Inferno used to have a strobe light? :s
  10. I'm pretty sure it was working at Fright Nights last year, but when I went last week it wasn't working. Maybe it's something they just save for Fright Nights now (although I don't see why that would be the case)?
  11. If you count those Intamin ones being discussed above, there's one already in Finland. But I agree that Europe's first Arrow-built 4D coaster would be good.
  12. 17, only six months to go until I don't have to find a dodgy corner shop to buy booze from
  13. !?Even if you think it's racist (and if you do think I'm genuinely racist then you can think that if you want, but it's only a bit of light-hearted humour), firstly it's nothing to do with being black, and secondly it was nowhere near aimed at you. This has got waaaaaaaay out of hand! PS if you think that was offensive, clearly you've never heard of /b/
  14. To my knowledge, the only 4Ds as we're discussing them are X2 at SFMM and Eejanaika (yes I did have to look that name up) in Japan. Both of these were made by Arrow who I thought were now out of business, but from poking around Wikipedia - 'The S&S Arrow division of S&S Power still operates, but basically only to make their 4th dimension coasters. The first multidimensional coaster since X debuted in Japan for 2006, Eejanaika.'So they haven't built anything since 2006, so I don't know if they exist more or less solely to offer maintenance to those?Intamin also do their own version of a 4D, but it looks pretty inferior to the Arrow version to me. The track design seems much less complex, it looks ugly as hell, and the seats spin of their own accord, rather than the spinning being controlled like on X2, which I assume could lead to having 'good rides' and 'bad rides' like on Vortex. However, the track also looks a lot more compact than Arrow 4Ds so it might be a better option of Thorpe were considering a 4D. I suppose it could be good in the dark - really disorientating. The one in that picture (Kirnu in Finland) is only 85ft tall and only cost about 3m Euros. It doesn't seem like it'd be as thrilling as the Arrow 4Ds but in all honesty looks like it'd suit Thorpe much better than the Arrow version, which seem much more expensive (a whopping $46m for X2 and 3.5billion Yen for Eejanaika, although I have absolutely no idea how much that'd be in £), and obviously takes up a lot more room as shown by the pictures of X that TPDan posted.I've read, though, that the Intamin 'Zacspin' as it's known for some reason also suffered a lot of technical faults, which would of course be amplified at Thorpe considering they can't even keep Saw open for more than a day without at least one or two ten-minute breakdowns. The throughput of the Intamin one is also pretty low - 700pph. On a side note, from looking at the Intamin website, their Multi-Inversion Coaster (the model of Colossus) has a 12-loop version - does anyone know what inversions that'd consist of? I think 7 barrel rolls would be too much to cope with!
  15. Just to clarify - and this really is the last thing I'm saying about it because firstly we're going way off topic by arguing, and secondly life's too short for petty bickering - I wasn't saying it was stupid because I think it would be a bad addition to the ride; opinion had nothing to do with it. Perhaps I was a bit harsh in the way I went about it, but it is a totally unrealistic idea. The only time I've heard of a rollercoaster having its track modified was Son of Beast in America having its loop removed but that was because of an accident. Additionally, remember we're talking about Thorpe here. Making such a drastic change as another inversion would take up a lot of space (which Thorpe just don't have), cost a lot of money (which Thorpe probably aren't willing to spend at the moment after just having spent £13.5m on Saw anyway), and would mean that the ride would have to be closed for a long time for building, testing, etc which would mean a lot of lost customers. Even if they made said modifications when the park was closed, remember that Saw already takes up pretty much all the space on its island. Lastly, when Liam said 'at the end', he really didn't make it clear exactly where the proposed inversion/helix/drop would go. I assumed it would have to go after the dive loop, but even if it wasn't to go there, there still really isn't any space for anything major like an inversion to go. Real life isn't like RCT - you can't just modify a coaster and have it running again within two minutes. And that's why I dismissed the idea, nothing to do with opinion at all. It just could not happen.
  16. Or you could look at it in this way - if no-one says it's a stupid idea then people will keep making stupid suggestions. Anyway, enough of this - I can't be bothered to argue with you any more, it seems like you're being deliberately awkward.
  17. It was a stupid reply for a stupid idea. It would and could never happen.
  18. The point I was making about Saw was that it shows the height restriction is still in place, as it's the only major ride to have been built at Thorpe since Stealth. When you say 'Not all of Thorpe Park's rides are only under 115t because they have to be' - I assume it's just coincidence, then, that only Stealth is the >115ft ride in the park? And just coincidence that when Colossus was being designed, it had to be made shorter from the original design (Monte Makaya, which is about 130ft I think)? No. Stealth was an exception to the rule - while it was allowed to be built to 205ft because of its colour, that does not mean (and this is the point of my argument) that any white ride could be built to any height they like. Stealth is a one-off (apart from, as some have said, the possibility in ten years or so of another >115ft ride being built).
  19. Oh boy oh boy that really is something, I've never been on when all of the effects have been working. I got the tunnel mist once before, but that was on a cold September morning anyway so all it did was make my eyes water!
  20. I thought they were £7 at Thorpe already? Also, from Thorpe's website - 'Want to see the look on your face as you take on the ultimate test on SAW - The Ride, do 0-80mph in 2 seconds on Stealth, or zoom through the 8th of 10 terrifying loops on Colossus?'I could have sworn the photo is only taken after the fifth inversion?
  21. Exception# a deliberate act of omission; # an instance that does not conform to a rule or generalisation; Stealth is an exception - the fact that its tower is white is neither here nor there (although I understand that the colour was a condition of its construction). If Thorpe only built white rides from now on, it wouldn't mean that they could go building rides at any height they want. The height restriction is still there (as demonstrated by Saw, built since Stealth) - Stealth breaks the height ceiling of 115ft - ergo it's an exception to the height rule of 115ft.
  22. For the people saying it's too short, etc etc. I haven't been on it yet but I'm already bricking it about what it's gonna be like going up that lift hill (which incidentally sounds so good in a lot of videos I've watched, really crunchy) - it's more about the psychological effect of building fear rather than being WOAH 600FT AND 6O LOOPZ OMFGZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - somewhat the same, to an extent, as Detonator at Thorpe, I'd imagine. Also, this being a world first, it was never gonna be as far advanced as SheiKra/Griffon (not to mention the fact that Alton have a height limit whereas designing coasters for American parks is like playing the sandbox mode on RCT). I think the amount of stick that Oblivion has come in for in this thread is a bit unwarranted. I mean, look at Stealth - it does less than a 'prototype' coaster (Xcelerator) that was built four years before it (and since then we've also had the advent of TTD and Kingda Ka), but still seems to be overrated by the vast majority of people. I for one can't wait to ride Oblivion for the first time in a couple of weeks, and I reckon it's stood the test of time well, especially in comparison to Thorpe's older rides like X:\NWO or Colossus (which, while still enjoyable, is becoming more and more of a rough ride by the season - at only seven years old as well!).Phew.
