  1. Having gone to Thorpe today as part of a network camp I finally rode dbgt, much earlier than expected to be honest.

Unfortunately first time the ride stopped at the beginning of the first vr sequence. So the ride skipped the first vr and we were rushed to the actor bit with no introduction to what was going on at all. The ending then looked shocking, some ps1 games have better graphics. Anyway we were then offered to ride again which we did. Unfortunately this time the actors didn't care. They didn't touch anyone and the whole thing was very disappointing. I can't give it more than 3/10 just because the way I experienced it. I wouldn't queue more than 20 minutes for it which is disappointing as it had so much potential.

  2. I think we will just see an minor improvement on Loggers and that will be it. The delays of DBGT will have cost Thorpe money and so there will be less to go around for next year. Maybe there will be a retheme to the whole old town but it wouldn't surprise me if we just saw Loggers reopen and advertised as a new experience.

  3. They may not have footers in the water because of the lake bed is unsuitable soil I believe.

13 is a gimmick with a meh coaster attached. The ride is poor.

As for the next coaster I expect it to be family style ride. However very much hoping for a multilaunch or even an RMC by loggers.

  4. The way it's worded does not breach any advertising standard agency regulations. The bubbleworks is closing and will never be the same again.

It's like terror of the towers and guardians of the galaxy. Same ride system different theme. Seeing as theme is the majority of a dark ride it seems fine to me to say that the ride is going and is the last chance to see the as it is.

That being said I agee Merlin are neglecting the park and don't see the worth the park once had. The retheme is not one I would have had at the top of the list as they need a throughput monster first but it did need doing.

  5. They are replacing it because they see money is to be made from it. They don't care how confident the designer is, all they see is potential money.

Past investments from Merlin are hit and miss and hopefully this will be a hit, but if the past is to go by its a 50:50 chance.

  6. Well vr is never going to be an issue as a whole. Servers and headsets won't all go wrong at once. It may have seats closed off individually or in blocks but never the full train. My issue with the VR is its a bottomless pit of money to keep it working. Just like the rest of the ride. In my opinion it's a bottomless pit which Merlin will have to keep pouring money into or it will close.

  7. A flyer is much heavier than an invert. The trains weight doesn't just have the restraints and seats but also the mechanism to stay in the fly position. I do believe the weight difference is so much that a flyers track has to be a larger gauge so it can deal with the weight.

Also for rider comfort on a invert you are forced into the seat whereas a flyer you would be forced into the restraint.

What difference does RMC treatment make? (Just asking because I've seen people complain about other coasters that had it and idg why it's a bad thing)

Well it comes to personal preference. I prefer pure woodies but I do see the appeal of steel tracks and added inversions. I just feel not every ride needs inversions and smoothness to be good.

  9. The issue is the HTC VIVE is not designed to be used in the way it's being used. Gaming at home, not being taken on and off every 6 minutes for every day 10am-6pm March to November. They are a delicate price of kit designed for high end gaming. It doesn't matter how much you try and modify them the bottom line is its not up for the job. It's going to cost so much to replace them so often and the actors and maintaining the trains. This ride can not be cheap to run at all which makes me think this isn't going to last long at all.

  10. It's more to do with the force required to keep the train on the track. The top wheel axels would have to take possibly more than 4 times the trains weight in tension where as inside the loop its on the normal wheels in compression. Also it would be uncomfortable to be forced into the restraint.

  11. Island behind swarm was left for the ground to settle however it is highly likely that has now happened. It has a 50m height limit and a track length of 900m maximum. That being said the MTDP is almost at an end and a new one will need to be submitted in the next couple of years.

The loggers leap area is not designated as a development area however that doesn't stop them building there. I believe it would be a fantastic area for a woodie and a water ride.

Until surveying of the site (tripods and a civil engineer in a high vis vest) the park won't even know what they are going for.

  12. There is no financial sense in spending hundreds of thousands on poor animation to add to a ride where doing so would bring in almost no new guests at all. Meanwhile filling up hard drives of the tech and making the VR even more complex. Either it would be a full update to the entire attraction or nothing at all happens.

Animation is expensive, that's why it looks so poor. So unless Thorpe in the future want to spend the amount of a new attraction on an attraction loosing appeal I don't see it ever happening.

  13. Wow actual physical changes to the VR then. Never thought we would see that. Unless for reasons only know to Alton there is no way of providing software updates with it all on the trains.
