Apparently the replacement part is already fitted. Your post was deleted because it added nothing to the discussion.

My train to Woking today was completely canceled, 'due to a signaling fault down the line at Brockenhurst station'. The bastards. I had to go some really awkward route which took 2 hours, instead of the 1. Not first time either. Bring on driving.

Just got back from Thorpe, and looked at Rush, the damage it's done to the footrest looks nasty. (it kinda looks like it was cut into with a knife or something, if the picture isn't clear). Plus looks like its cracked to the base? The object was said to be 17.5kg ish. Plus the force of the ride hitting it (it was coming down from a fall height swing so thats 3G's correct?). Meaning the it would be 3 times its normal weight, so 52.5kg? Fence kinda fixedNow, if that had hit someone...

Just watched the season finale of Lost. Holy s**t.

I never said it wasn't, I was using it as an example.

Let us hope that it's down long enough to found out what caused the problem, rectify it, and put procedures in place to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I'm saying it's my opinion. I do think it would be ignorant to think that it happened by chance, and not think that there is a reason behind it. Really, I'm not repeating myself again, I'v made my thoughts clear.

Before I scream and go jackie chan on someone, let me make my thoughts clear. I'm merely, using, hypothetical, examples, to demonstrate, that someone, something, is accountable. Now before any of you reply in response to my posts again. Read that. And read it.

Argh but thats my point! That PERHAPS just MAYBE it wasn't. Unlikely I know, but it's still a POSSIBILITY. I'm not in anyway saying any of these POSSIBILITIES are fact, I'm using them as examples to demonstrate that there is a reason for things happen, and it can't be just an 'accident'

Eh? You don't know they did, but you know it for a fact? Eh? It's not though. It would be bad protocol for not checking that specific component, which would be S&S fault.
-
Rush
Yes yes yes. I know I know. But you're still not getting it. In the case Marc suggested, then it would be S&S's fault for not pointing out to check that specific thing. S&S may not have known, but it would still be there fault, as they should of checked these things in simulations and say to themselves "Hmm weak spot here, better have it checked regularly". I'm not gonna cary this on any further because I'm just repeating myself. Point is;- Health and Safety of guest was jeopardized. - Someone or thing must be accountable, it doesn't just 'happen'.

I apologize for my poor wording. I'm not blaming anyone yet. I don't know what happened to cause it to fall yet. What am I am saying though, somewhere, someone or thing down the line is accountable. I'm not blaming anyone in particular yet.

So you know they checked the ride that day? For a fact? You know they checked the top of the ride that day? For fact? As Jac said it's not feasible for them to check everything everyday, but it would still be Thorpe accountable in the eyes of the law. This is my point. I'm not saying they wanted this to happen like you seem to keep suggesting. I'm saying that would technically be Thorpe's fault. And yes, my whole point is this *could* of hurt someone. That it serious. Where health and safety was jeopardized, that is serious.

How can I assume? Cos this is a discussion forum, and I'v come up with several POSSIBLE scenarios. Where have I blamed anyone? I haven't. I'm saying someone, something, is accountable. If you wanna believe it just fell, because of pure chance, then ok, we'll wait and see if that's the case. However its my OPINION based on simple knowledge of engineering, that there is a REASON, that thing fell.
-
Rush
No I'm not an engineer. No I did not check Rush. How can I assume? Cos this is a discussion forum, and I'v come up with several POSSIBLE scenarios, no where in any of them did I say they were fact. And what have I said on all of them? That's something that COULD have been overlooked whilst checking the rides. I'm not even saying it's Thorpes fault, it was just a POSSIBILITY. And why would I need to be there to assume things? I know what's happened. A ride component fell, which could of hit people. I don't see what more I need to know?

Rush
Ok so you're suggesting I said closed Rush down forever? Because where did I say that? I didn't say that, and that's what you're comparing to.If you wanna use that example though, in this case I would suggest "Get more driving lessons".

Rush
That's just ignorance. This is my whole damn point. It's about what could of happened. MY WHOLE POINT IS THIS COULD OF KILLED SOMEONE. What is so hard about that? And how do you know it won't happen again? I quote you 'this stuff happens all the time'.

Because things in the world don't just happen, they have a reason for it. I'm in NO WAY saying if this was Thorpes engineering's fault they would of wanted it to happen. But what I am saying if they DID overlook it, then it would be. What is so hard to understand about that? Metal fatigue needs to be checked for on every component, and fact is, it's possibility this one component got over looked. If you wanna explain Holly, how no one is to blame, like I have explained how someone or something is, then feel free.
-
Rush
It DOESN'T change the fact that it's their responsibility if it's a design flaw. Of-course they can test every component, this is what computer modeling was made for. I can't believe you can even argue that it wouldn't be their fault. I'm not even saying this is the cause, I'm saying it's a possibility. Fact is, it still would of hit someone. Fact is, it the TOP of the fence, a few more CM's and it would of missed the fence. That's all it takes. This is why I can't believe how relaxed people are about this.

What do I think could of been done? Well lets take a look at what has happened. A piece of metal has fallen off. Now that could be caused by numerous things. One such thing could be metal fatigue, in that case, that would be Thorpes engineering team not picking up on it. Or, it could be S&S's fault, for the ride having a design flaw, exerting to much pressure on one point. Someone is accountable, accidents don't happen, they're just a series of events. It's all very well the rides been taken apart, but if they still overlook something, then its pointless. And it's all very well S&S testing the ride, but if they overlook this problem, then again its pointless. While at first I believed it was just a freak accident, the more and more I think about it the more and serious this is.The Sun article is bullocks, and I'm not defending it in ANY way. However, what people don't seem to grasp is this could have easily killed someone. It doesn't make it anymore less serious that it *could* of. This thing had that potential to kill someone. Fact is it was INCHES away from someone on the ride, and then was smacked by the ride into a PATH, which someone could of EASILY been on. You can see in the video someone was just again, INCHES away. What the hell is wrong with you people? There has clearly been a terrible oversight here, that SOMEONE or SOMETHING is responsible for.

I agree with Jack, whilst the papers have blown it way of proportion, I think some people are missing how serious this is. I mean, its not even worth thinking about if it hit someone, it made a dent in metal, and still had enough momentum to took a fence clean out of its nails, and crack the rest of it. Then some also play the 'but Thorpe couldn't of done anything' card. Well I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe that there isn't something that could of been done. Yes regular tests are done, but SOMETHING, could of been done, simple. I mean this isn't the only Merlin theme park incident this year. Chessington Dragon Falls anyone?

Rush
He's posting fact. How about they make sure the incidents don't happen.I'm not starting a whole OMG ITS THORPES FAULT thing, because I believe the rides are safe, and I know they're tested regularly, this is just a freak accident, slipped through the net if you will. What I'm saying is they have to expect this kinda coverage afterwards, because it's only a good thing, it puts MORE pressure on them to ensure these things don't happen.

I'v read in several places a month. That makes sense, considering they'll have to investigate what happened, test, perhaps order and wait for new parts to arrive. Could even be as serious as waiting for the ride manufacture S&S to give it the all clear.
