  1. Yeah, I had been a couple of times before but I never used to like rides so I always used to go to Chessie to ride the smaller rides then when I felt like I wanted to go on some bigger rides I knew Thorpe had big rides so I went to Thorpe in 2005 and loved it, so I visited again and never stopped loving it.

Well between the fire of '99 and mid-2004 I was determined to never go back because of that fire ruining the place, and I didn't until being convinced by a mate that Colossus and Nemesis Inferno are 2 of the best rides at Thorpe. So come mid-October 2004 I went for the first time in just over 5 years, loved it even though I was there for 2 hours, and then went next in mid-July 2005. So it could be said I held a grudge which I have now let go of.
  2. Have you seen the amount of reviews on the net for Saw? Some of them literally slag it off to the max. And although I don't agree with them 100%, to a certain extent, they're right. I saw a documentary on YouTube where rollercoaster experts are talking about Saw and how Stealth and Colossus are better.

  3. The pictures are not worth the money, Annual Pass holders don't even get a discount, do they? Good for a laugh when you've just come off a ride but not to buy. They're really strict about you photographing them now, understandably.

  4. How long has Slammer been down for? This is my first oppurtunity to catch the news for about 10 days now.And for those who want Slammer gone, you're in for a long wait.

  5. I am pleased to announce that some the effects in the cave are working, there are now red lights on the floor and mist sprays you from the red lights, the mist that sprays you when you go into the cave isn't working, also there is mist coming out of the volcano in the queue line which looks amazing, the best ride I have had on Nemesis Inferno this year possibly last year aswell.

These 2 pictures are from several years ago:Posted ImagePosted ImageLove it, the 2nd one is the best.
  6. If you mean by "windmilled" where it stops in this position and lets the 6 pods rotate, then yes. Like in this picture:Posted Image

I would be far happier if Thorpe Park just ripped it down and replaced it with anything else. It could be a carousel for all I care, just anything more reliable.

No! Then there'd be no sky swatters left in the world!
  7. Top thrill dragster has no over the top restraints, yet Rita and Stealth do...What is that about? Is it a bunny hop/airtime hill thing?

Top Thrill Dragster doesn't have a bunny hop - look:Posted ImageAlso, loads of on-ride videos of it on YouTube.

I agree with this whole-heartedly, and I think this is what Thorpe screwed up with SAW. They made the most vertical ever (wait, what?) drop and it's crap. I think it would have been far better an an oblivion style drop - you just don't get the same feeling with any more than dead straight.

I know what you mean, you can't feel the 97 degree bit.
  8. I'm a big fan of Dead Set - anyone here seen it? Awesome. Anyway, I wanna get hold of one these clocks they use in the control room:Posted ImageFor those who don't know the top 2 figures display the hours and minutes, and the bottom one displays the seconds. Also, the ring of dots counts with each second, e.g if it's on 25 seconds all the dots between 1 and 5 positions are displayed.I realise these are mainly used throughout broadcasting and getting hold of one isn't easy, as I've searched high and low on the net. Anyone have any suggestions of how to get one of these? Even a computer-based one would be good!

  9. So if I’ve interpreted you right (which I doubt I have) because of all kinds of G-Force, the speed the ride is launched has to correspond with the height, (e.g. 80 MPH to 205 foot and 128 MPH (I think) To 4?? Ft) as the train goes over the top at a speed that does not produce harmful amounts of G's?

I looked on RCDB.com. The results:
    • Kingda Ka, the world's tallest, is 456ft high - top speed 128mph
    • Top Thrill Dragster, the second tallest, is 420ft - top speed 120mph
    36ft shorter and 8mph slower.
  10. I disagree. A flyer, while it can be forceful (especially pretzel loops I've heard), it doesn't (in my opinion) suit Thorpe's target market. Plus, considering AT already have a flyer and there are so many other choices available, do we really want Thorpe to be coping AT to become a mini-AT?

That's fair enough if it doesn't really suit Thorpe in your opinion, but it's more of what the customer wants, and what Thorpe think would fit in well. We're all looking to try new types of rides. With a sky swatter, an air-powered swing, a 205ft high launch coaster, a 100ft drop tower, the world's first 10 looping coaster Europe's wettest water ride, these aren't exactly your everyday rides at a theme park. Thorpe have a lot of "some things different", and to put a flyer in would not only top it off, but I am certain it would make the place more popular.
  11. That convo you overheard was definately a lie. For a start, they probably haven't decided on what type of coaster it'll be.Thorpe have gotta get a flyer though.

  12. The bits of the fence that are red now were light blue before.

*remembering* Oh yes, I remember now.I dunno what I prefer, red or silver corners! Silver corners reminds me a lot of the Chessie theme.
  13. I think it had the re-paint during the down-time it experienced a couple of weeks ago now. It's just the fence that's been repainted though- to me it looks like Samurai's pods have just been properly cleaned, but I may be wrong on this one.It looks a lot nicer now though, and it's good that Thorpe have done it, whereas in previous years they probably wouldn't have bothered.

Hmm, hard to tell from that picture whether the pods have been repainted, however, wasn't the fence completely black before? Whatever it was, it looks good like that now.I'll always remember the time when I first saw Samurai at Thorpe Park towards the end of 2004. I had spent the whole season at Chessington getting used to no Samurai there, and when I walked across the Colossus bridge and saw Samurai running in it's new colours with its lights on, I was like "There it is!", as if I had found something I had lost. I had seen images of it on the net in it's new colours, and this was during the days before I started going to Thorpe Park regularly.
