Alton Towers Trip Reports
Theme Park bloke replied to Cringle's topic in Your Planned Trips and Reports
This is a classic shot - what I love about is that it looks like Nemesis (in parts) is built in someone's back garden! -
That's the secret link I was trying to find earlier! Also, is the lower Dome music on this site? I would love a copy of that. You know the tune, that slow, relaxing one (near the loos).
-
I have to admit, Nemesis has come up in my opinion. I mean, it hasn't changed or anything in the last few years, but I only experienced it for the first time in 2005 (after N:I in 2004), at first it did meet me with a frosty reception as far as the ride's thrillness goes. But now I've warmed to it.The one thing I've realised only recenlty is that they both have 3 inline twists, I was under the impression Inferno had more. Perhaps Alton's Nemmie could've done with a couple more during the design process, I think a fantastic location would be after you exit the loop and go under the bridge, round to the left.

Uh-huh. When Slammer opened, there was only 2 or 3 left in the world, including Slammer. Soon it only left 2 and I think the remaining one was at Six Flags Astroworld. And I think that closed last year to leave only Slammer.
-
It was on Merlin Media (http://www.tussaudsmedia.co.uk) but lately the site has been down and now the site says they're coming back soon. So as soon as it back up it should be on there to download, as before.Whilst on the entrance music, I have noticed the Quantum theme is played as part of the entrance theme, before the main 10-minute theme.

Is something wrong with the signatures? I've noticed everyone's is in the default tiny blue, the BB Code won't work on mine when I try to customise it, and my link to my image has gone since I last logged on.Is something wrong?
-
Yesterday at Chessington none of the scolling LED's were working.
-
Just look carefully at them - they're also ribbed!
-
Yes, another thing that is annoying. Honestly, I could walk thurough that mirror maze with my eyes closed. Also, is it me or do some of those socks on the wall look like giant split condoms?
-
I can understand everyone doesn't like Slammer - but for visitors who like it more than they hate it, I recommend it, as it's now the only sky swatter in the world. You won't get a ride like this anywhere else - shame.
-
What broken scenery needs fixing? :PNow that you mention it, I never realised the entrance sign used to flash. But it should, yes! I've never seen it do that.
-
I'm getting ya, bit-by-bit. Those stripes look familiar.
-
Nope...nope...nope. If you do that, then all the Chavs will piss off to Chessie for good. We want them to piss off from the parks, full stop. Erm...yes. I know, lol. That proves how long I ain't used Photobucket for. Yeah! I sometimes wonder what's more thrilling, the ride itself or just standing on the bridge! God, how that gets crowded! Thankyou.Anyway, who cares if a flying coaster is in your face the minute you step outta the Dome? Every other ride is, in some perspective. Thorpe have planned them carefully, you stand outside the Dome, look across at all rides which are visible (Slammer only when it spins), and then choose which one to head for first. Personally, I'm sick of exiting the Dome and seeing Octopus Gardens. One thing I would like to see is Tidal Wave's oil rig fired up again. I heard that during Stealth's construction, machinery went right through some cables or pipes which put the final icing on the cake for it being totally screwed!

Is it normal to have one that early in a rides life?
-
I never remember this at all, because I never went on it, but this is pre-Tomb Blaster, yeah? Hard to believe it's the same ride. And what part is that, the station or the entrance? With colours like those, it reminds you of the Krypton Factor!
-
The worst has got to be 2005, from about April to June it was one-off and then as it approached it's 10th birthday, Huss officials were drawn in to examine the ride. It was saved, but was close to being removed, due to spiralling maintenance costs.
-
What's up with that ride now?!
-
Grr! I hate names that start with Qa - it's not right! Like Al Qaeda for example. Bloody people, what makes them think they can drop the u after Q?Anyway rant over. When Slammer was down back in April or May, it was online to S&S Utah, America, doing a software update. Amazing stuff.
-
Yes, we get you. They've always got a problem with that ride, ever since it was put back in. Never happened before. Well, not as often.

Thunder River was good, and I think a lot of people preferred it. When it was rethemed to Ribena Rumba Rapids it wasn't welcomed warmly, especially by an author at Coaster Kingdom who gave it some pretty harsh criticism. Infact, come to think of it, he'll go through the A-Z of the good and bad of any ride he reviews, he really just does go over the top. Pratt. Don't listen to his reviews, fellow Hub Mania members, just judge the ride for yourself.Where was I? Oh yes, Rumba! Yes, so it wasn't welcomed warmly, but people have come round to it and got to like it. Personally, I hated it at first, but now? Well it's better than Thunder River ever was. OK, so they put new boats in for RRR, and sometimes things don't work for a while (like the water tower shower for example), but yes, it's brilliant, and yes the music is so good I have even made a ringtone for my phone that I might one day get round to using!

With S&S's technology it's anyones guess!
-
Where was changing Stealth mentioned? :PThanks for you comments Mr Hicks. Also, apologies for the loss of the picture - I accidentally deleted it from my Photobukcet account, and then from the computer by accident!

Depth Charge and the beach seriously do need to go IMO, and I think X:\ is not far from the end of it's life now, perhaps it only has a few years left. I'd like to the see arena gone too, and an even better Thorpe Mega Store - so here's what I'd do: Demolish Depth Charge, the slides, and the beach. Build a flying coaster with a brand new area name. This coaster could stretch as far out as X:\ No Way Out's entrance, allowing people to walk between where Octopus Gardens and Neptunes Kingdom currently are, with the ride flying over. Demolish X:\ No Way Out, Octopus Gardens, the Thorpe Mega Store, the toilets, and the arena. In the area currently occupied by X:\, create a brand new childrens area. The rides currently in Octopus Gardens could be moved there, or new rides could be installed. Whether area would remain as Octopus Gardens or be given a brand new name would be decided later. This area would extend up the back of Slammer. In the area currently occupied by the arena, build a brand new toilet block. In the area currently occupied by the Thorpe Mega Store and Octopus Gardens, build a new, bigger and better Thorpe Mega Store - mega by name, mega by nature. Bear in mind the new flying coaster plan outlined above could stretch up to where X:\'s entrance is now. However, this could be planned with much care that it wouldn't interrupt the size of the new Thorpe Mega Store. These plans could be completed in the next 4-5 years. However, I think it could complete Thorpe's thrill rides. Replacing the Banana Boat and Fungle Safari with something each is also something I would like to see - perhaps a crazy golf course or even a new route for the Canada Creek Railway might fit nicely onto Fungle Safari's current area?Who knows - but come on Thorpe, do the right thing. Out with the old, in with the new.

I wish they'd fix the broken mirrors in the maze. Such a giveaway for the maze route. They've been broken ages now.
