Drayton are absolutely in the right, well done to them for following the safety procedures correctly. It's important that staff handle these situations correctly (polite, apologetic) rather than the "there's nothing I can do" attitude, as that can get people's backs up and cause backlashes like this. (I'm not saying that's what has happened here as I don't know, but it may have done).

It's a quick fix, but doesn't change the fact that the area has been completely neglected with a disused train station and tracks still visible, Loggers Leap decaying behind a fence, the surroundings all look tired and it's completely void of the atmosphere it used to have. I think this highlights how Thorpe have lost their sense of direction, a few years back they didn't want families there and family rides were removed, now they're having to install these rides (and let's be honest, this is not what a park on Thorpe's scale should be installing) because they've neglected the family market for so long it has damaged the park's ride lineup.

Well it's a better investment than Ghost Train at least. It seems a bit naff for a park on Thorpe's scale to be instaling these but as a temporary thing it makes sense, and if they already have the rides available then why not really? Of course, it'll completely kill the theme of Canada Creek/Old Town but they've all-but done that anyway.

True, but I'm referring to UK parks as well.

I don't rate Blade but removal without replacement would still be awful IMO. Flat rides help alleviate crowds during busy times, which IMO should be a priority for theme parks, especially at a park like Alton Towers which is set out in several different areas with large gaps between them - the park is very nearly at a situation now where each area only houses two coasters (Smiler & Oblivion, Nemesis & Air, Thirteen & Rita) with no nearby rides to soak up the queues during busy times. Blade closing would just add insult to injury at this point. Also, from an enjoyment point of view there's no substance to the park anymore, whilst there are still a few support rides the bulk of flats/water/dark rides are closed, and IMO it's just tedious to get to an area to find just a couple of rides, all with long queues, and if one of them goes down then it'll just be chaos.

40 seconds?! It's about four minutes now Regarding the reasoning for the new trains, I find that strange as there are plenty of Arrow Dynamics coasters still running with their original trains.
-
Drains probably wouldn't be viable in a raft, a water vacuum would be though!
-
I'm sure it'll just be hefty maintenance, they wouldn't remove another flat ride in full knowledge that the park already falls flat on its face on busy days (as of this year) due to not enough rides. ...oh wait, they don't care.

There's a video with interviews and footage from the area; https://youtu.be/yYv1AL9g9Oc

There are pictures on Twitter which show that The Flume (or at least the part over the area SW8 will stand in) has been torn down.
-
Did anything actually change during the changeover though, apart from Loggers becoming SBNO (and the name)? I know that things like the music has changed/gone, but as an area, it hasn't exactly been redeveloped.

Wish I could forget that 2011 annual pass day. 3 hours for Storm Surge...

I think it'd be a huge shame to lose Canada Creek as an area to (let's face it, it probably would be) an IP. In its prime CC had a really good atmosphere, I miss the days of hearing the western music playing out across the area (and in the BBQ) and it was a very different feel to the rest of Thorpe. It would be another dent in the overall atmosphere of Thorpe IMO, and whilst I understand that things have to progress, I feel that the IP's are sucking the soul out of the park. I don't think they care whether people liked Loggers or not, and they've proven that they're happy to lie to the public.
-
I'm not sure why Thorpe needed Storm Surge at all, if they'd spent the money on upgrading Loggers Leap and Rumba Rapids to bring them up to a high standard, they would have a fantastic selection of water rides.

I haven't been to any theme parks outside the UK.
-
It was 1.4m. The second drop was the highlight when it travelled backwards IMO as it came out of nowhere, especially if you were in the front carriage (so back of the train).
-
In fairness there's a lot of people who like The Big One! The first drop is just fantastic in the back row, easily the highlight of any coaster for me.

Where to start
-
Woah... it's amazing what £9 per person per ride does for throughputs! https://youtu.be/pk7cVyZky8o Looking forward to going on Olympia Looping in December
-
Yeah, they only had the lights on for a short time; I'm not sure what the exact reason was for going back to it being in the dark, but I remember there being a backlash because the lights were ruining the ride so maybe it was that.
-
I remember when they had sick bags at the exit It also ran with the lights on at one point to try and prevent people from being sick!

There's plenty of footers down already for Construction 2018

PM sent. Regarding the discussion about X:/ No Way Out, I preferred it to X - it had a sense of the unknown and seemed like a much larger ride due to the backwards travel, dimmer lighting and the stops. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy X, it's still a fun coaster.

Look, this thread was created as a break from the usual discussion points and a chance to discuss Thorpe in a positive, nostalgic light. Stop derailing the thread and trying to bring negativity into it when it just isn't needed.

There's plenty of people who don't like the way the Merlin parks are heading at the moment, granted I'm more vocal about my views than most but then again, I'm don't complain about "absolutely everything" as you've said. I'm not sure why you've felt the need to quote me with a sarcastic response, my original post was in response to a joke that I've seen in a lot of topics, it was amusing at first but it's gotten boring.
