I'm just speculating, but what about this trackless ride system? Would explain why we haven't seen any track going in yet. http://www.oceaneering.com/entertainment-systems/oes-products/revolution-dark-ride-vehicle/

I'm fairly convinced this wont have an IP. I'm not saying it wont be sponsored by a well known brand, but I think we will see a unique and fresh dark ride that is not related to anything we currently know. Anyone old enough to remember the 5th Dimension will know that IP's are not necessary for a successful dark ride!!

I'm with Brighteyes99 on this one. This is looking like a simulator setup. The trench in the ground looks like it could house a simulator rig. I use aviation simulators as part of my job, and It all looks familiar as far as the height of the buildings/hangars and current foundation configuration.

Nice renderings there MChappy. Great pics guys. Looking forward to watching this over the coming months.

Exciting! Thanks for the updates

I seem to remember this Dark Ride being mentioned in the MTDP or a version of it a few years back before The Swarm and Saw were around. I wonder if this has been in the pipeline for a while? I would say if it is housing a ride mechanism, it's definitely not a coaster. The building is not tall enough and the budget won't stretch to digging a hole that big.
-
Maverick is hands down one of the best coasters I have ever been on. It has no unique selling points, just an incredibly clever layout and compact design. An Intamin Blitz coaster like this would be an incredible addition to the park, IMO.
-
My my, it has been quiet on here recently! I was just going back through the 'The Swarm' speculation thread, and we already had a teaser press release about it in December 2010. Based on that, do we now think that we wont see Thorpe getting a new coaster till at least 2016 as based on past time frames, we should have heard something by now for a 2015 opening!
-
They kind of played with that idea at Alton Towers with Air and Nemesis, although the tie in was never really exploited or explained! I think in this case, I would prefer to see a completely separate ride and theme, on an island of its own. However, if they could fit a flat ride or another compact thrill ride on The Swarm island, I would definitely be up for that!

Well TP's last 3 major coasters have all gone up within three years of each other. And the MTDP did say that we can expect the next one in 2015. If 2015 is the target for Thorpes next thrill machine, then we could see some plans produced towards the end of the summer/autumn. Now that The Smiler has finished construction, I am looking forward to starting fresh here with some new speculation and construction!
-
OK so its September and we still have no clue what TP are installing next year! Come on people, get digging! We are losing our touch.

well, yes and no. I am contracted for 3 years and will prob be out here for up to 5. But I will still be modelling for Thorpe Park's current and future rides, and I am going to look at modelling Alton Towers at some point in the future. I will resume modelling in a couple of months, so until then, I hope you all enjoy the current crop of models on there.
-
Thanks Liam_T. Well there are a few elements I still need to add to The Swarm island and still plenty to do with the rest of the park. I am taking a bit of time out as I have moved to Singapore with a new job and am a little busy at the moment. But have no fear, I will resume the 3D modelling from mid summer onwards and of course will be checking into TPM on a regular basis.

Hey guys. The Swarm island is niw live on Google Earth. It is one of the most detailed models I have done, but of course there are polygon shortcuts that need to be done to allow the model to fall in line with google earth model rules, which are pretty strict! Also check out for the entrance buildings and canada creek, which is now complete.

well, the MTDP shows a new ride for this location, so something is going on. I'm thinking Top Spin maybe.

Well I went on Wed last week which was pretty busy. Despite every bone in my body wanting to head to The Swarm first, I went left and did Vortex, Colossus, Saw, Samauri, the Flume and Inferno all in an hour. I walked on all of them without a queue. Whilst on Inferno, I could see the queue for The Swarm and it was up at around 90 mins long. Nearly everyone in the park headed that way first, so I would recommend doing it after lunch. I only queued for 15 mins for it then and got 4 goes on it in the afternoon. You might be able to rush to The Swarm as the gates open, but then you are going to be following everyone else around the park all day, so I say, do the opposite.Hope that helps.
-
I'm not sure where everyone came from on Wed's! The park was running out of food too! Other than that, I was mighty impressed at how they coped with ride dispatch and queue times which were still short.
-
I have to agree with the view the ride has become quite rough.I rode it Wed for the first time since 2010 and although it was great fun, it is rather painful in places. I think it varies between cars for sure. My ride on Saw felt more painful than Colossus, no exaggeration.
-
went today and it was really busy! The Swarm had a queue time of 90 mins for the first 2 hours. But I resisted the temptation of going there first and went left. Turned out a good move as I walked on Samauri, Colossus, Saw and Inferno as everyone else queued for The Swarm! The queue came down to 15 mins after lunch and I did it 4 times. Amazing day out in the end.

Thanks guys. Basically I need square face on pics of shops and building elevations. Ideally all 4 sides of all buildings, shops, theming, fencing and signs. I don't expect all 4 sides Stokseyboy, but whatever you can get would be great. I have had enough material to create the track and station, but in particular I need pics of the toilets, shops and fencing and the plane. Have a great day, I'm hoping to go next week!P.S. Thanks Sidders, I did stumble upon them actually. They have been really useful.

Thank you thank you thank you! It is looking Fab by the way!

Guys, I need your help! I desperately need photos of the area theming for The Swarm. As there is no street view, all my textures for the theming has to come from photos. I have found some good ones from Thorpe Park Nerd, but that is about it. Any and all links/suggestions would be a help.

Just an update guys, The Swarm is under construction on Google Earth. Hopefully be ready for the 3D layer in a few weeks. It is a highly detailed model and it is going to take a while what with the Google earth file size restrictions and polygon restraints. It is looking mighty fine though!!
