Official Alton Towers & Drayton Manor Meet 20-21/06/2015
OldFarmerDean replied to AJ 's topic in TPM 2015 Meets
So turns out I'm actually at Towers that day anyway, so might bump into you lot, I'm sure I'll recognise you from your group photos aha! -
Yeah I managed to find the song thanks aha... I really liked the area music too though... Hmm....
-
Why does the Heartlake City area music, and the show music have to be so damn catchy... Anyone know where I can find the songs?

Snakes and Spiders are probably the worst thing for me although I pretty much hate any bugs... Like wasps as mentioned above. I also oddly and the severity (although clearly not too bad) seems to be fluctuating but generally getting worse, suffer with self diagnosed claustrophobia... The thought is always running through my mind about being stuck on a ride, I just hate being trapped in and not have the freedom to move for a long period of time, heck I even start to panic when waiting in the break run; the worst bit of any roller coaster for me is the lift hill, once I'm past there I enjoy the ride and forget all about it! Colossus is probably the worst ride I can think of, as there is no leg room whatsoever for me being 6 foot, I'm always the last to sit down, and would rather the ride is on 1 train so I don't have to wait around in the break run at the end; God forbid if it ever broke down on me, hence why I try and avoid it, even though I love the ride layout itself!
-
Thanks! do they still let you through the entrance and into the lego star wars section before 10 and then open the barriers there?
-
quick question if anyone knows, does Legoland open earlier than 10, whether it be for everyone or annual pass holders or not at all... just can't remember - going this sunday! thanks
-
It's not unusual for an empty train to stall there though... unlikely but it's happened quite a few times since it's been open and testing
-
I hope the story on one of them has had a leg amputated isn't true, and wish them all the best with recovery and lucky they're alive. I just can't stop thinking about it, and still in shock how it even happened... I have thoughts in my mind all the time of rides breaking down on me, as I can't cope being stuck for a long time getting claustrophobic, but honestly would never think something so serious like this could happen, and more to the point noone can get there head round the reason why! It wouldn't put me off going on rides, and given the appropriate time and measures if/when the smiler reopens I would ride it; of course I'd be scared, but you don't get scared of driving every day etc. I still want to smash my head against a wall, reading these media reports and peoples comments on facebook, some people know how to dwell and exaggerate on the past... as well as base the future in general on one incident.
-
People who would go would complain and want refunds for an area of the park not being open, and then want refunds anyway on top of the running cost of the park and the whole trying to have privacy in the affected area... So it's quite a wise decision to keep it closed maybe for the next day or two, as they'll be giving refunds anyway.
-
It ususally stops at the bottom of the first lift hill and waits for the second one to be off the track and then hopefully they go up the hill similar time and duel... But should never have gone on to the lift hill before the other one is at the next lift hill!? Plus that would have given time for staff to notice if the ride did malfunction? And I read somewhere that it emergency stopped on the lift hill due to the one in front stalling and then was sent back on again, like this whole situation seems so weird!!

So glad I've been to Adventure Island now... Had a really great day, definitely nice to go to a non merlin park, and less of a full on theme park. Not sure if it's worth £27 and half price after 6 for only up to 4 hours is a bit of a rip off... But I only paid £7 +£20 worth of tesco voucher, so was decent. The staff that work there must be high or something, or not sure if that's just how Essex people are... They were absolutely crazy, but really made a change to most places with how nice and funny they all were. The rides, Rage was a little bit of a disappointment as it was pretty slow and a bit tame, but fun nonetheless, and the other 4 family creds were great fun too! Over the hill was certainly different, as was the devil gold mine (spinning ride, can't remember the proper name)... Most of the rides there were a bit odd, like the skateboarder and fireball which has the worst throughput I think I have ever seen, as they let people off they don't let people back on and seem to do it in a really funny order (the same with the big wheel actually). the claw was horrific, so was scorpion... And finally the other main ride that deserves a mention is Time Machine, can't believe I rode it 3 times, I literally wasn't even going to ride it the first time, but got persuaded to and sorta regretted it, felt sick after a few seconds, it is such a unique and intense ride, I came off feeling so dizzy and ill, but persisted on with the day and ended up on it twice more which was just about bareable but still ridiculous! Queues weren't that bad at all really for half term although the park seemed packed, didn't really end up waitin more than 10/15 minutes although some rides should have been less but the staff really seemed more interested in guest interaction than throughput on quite a few occasions which did get slightly annoying, but glad we went for the whole day as I was shocked how many rides there were compacted in to such a small area aha, ended up with a total ride count of 46, played crazy golf and done the pier as well which is so misleading how far it is until you actually start walking it and realise you're getting nowhere pretty much aha... So overall had an amazing day and would definitely try and return in the future like next year, but don't think it's somewhere I could go every few weeks like Thorpe etc.

somehow I found row 3 to be the worst... rode it like 5 times and twice on row 3 which seemed to be the worst, even compared to the back, had one really enjoyable ride though and it was awesome as I could actually enjoy it, front row on the inside, while EC! on the outside found it to be bad though... seriously such a shame most people are affected by the vibrations; although I'd argue it's more of a ride problem than a person problem
-
I want to love it so much... the launch and the layout is really good... my body just doesn't agree!!
-
it's not a justification, but at least it's a hopeful sign of it opening soon... it is a great unique experience, it is a real shame how it's always had problems; was good to see it back open last year and pretty reliable as well, and thought it was a sign of things to come, and then for it to still not to be open yet is such a disappointment; I hope there's money coming from S&S towards the continued work on this ride; as it seems crazy for thorpe to keep trying and when it's open not even emphasising the fact it's world first/only - as good as it is, right from the beginning of these severe problems the last few years and the same with samurai they probably should have given up and saved the money to get a new flat ride to replace it, would have been a win situation really as a new ride to actually advertise.
-
I heard from someone who works at the park that it was testing today........
-
the question is, I've heard adventure island is never really that busy even holidays, is that true, as I'm visiting for the first time sat 30th may which is the end weekend of half term week....?
-
so apparently it takes an hour and a half to card off one stealth train in the morning, that's without any problems of course... and due to having weekly and monthly maintenece more thorough checks, if for example it's not a peak day. like a monday, they'll run it on one train so it can be on two when it's busier the next day etc. after a behind the scenes tour I can appreciate now how much work it actually is... but for a 'world class' theme park with 'world class' rides, there should be enough maintenance staff and extra trains to cover while they're being maintained etc. to allow the queues to be smaller, which to be fair at thorpe now, there aren't that many days anymore when there isn't demand for an extra train to be added. Slate me all you want, but it is madness how other parks like europa park apparently can run a theme park with rides running at high capacity every day... it's a real shame merlin value money making over guest satisfaction rather than trying to create a balance that works. As for the closed rides, it's getting pretty ridiculous now, again it seems an example of lack of staff over the closed months, and doesn't seem right for detonator to be waiting for a part for like 3 weeks or more now!? I'm glad they're still trying with slammer (surely they must be getting money towards it from S&S!?), just a real shame so many rides have been down this year; worst it seems to have been since I visited for the first time back in 2009.

Rollercoaster Restaurant (FoodLoop) for 2016!
OldFarmerDean replied to AstroDan's topic in Alton Towers
I can see why thorpe would never get one with how bad their ride reliability is... good luck alton towers! On a serious note, it looks so cool, but I can just see it as being something more suited to being in the hotel area? -
that's their worlds first... I'm not even mad haha!

It says more acts to be announced... This looks like the replacement for summer nights, every Friday and saturday from whenever it starts in July til end of august. As for ministry of sound they just don't seem tto want to release dates yet, as considering this time last year there had already been one MOS night... I do hope there isn't a problem and that it will go ahead at some point this year as would love to go, I can just see myself being busy though!
-
I'm hoping (!?) that, that was the MOS nights which I have also seen advertised around the park.... well it looks like the music will be on the evenings after the park officially closes at 6/7, so if we just want to go on rides we'd still have to a pay a ticket like summer nights, but I reckon the queues shouldn't be affected too much as they may open more rides, or use two trains, and a lot of people are going to be watching the artists perform anyway rather than riding the whole time, so maybe it won't be so bad.
-
well they were the reason the swarm was closed to the public til like lunch... on a busy saturday!? plus I'm sure queues we're made a bit smaller in general as the swarm of girls (if you pardon the pun) chasing them around the park, is literally hilarious to watch how pathetic people are lol.
-
well only 4 acts are released... it does say big names every friday and saturday on the main stage in lost city... and then other performances (probably not very well heard of, maybe even local?) on a stage by tidal wave...
-
I would hope not to see a wing coaster.... just for the reason that some experiences are becoming too similar... I'm supporting wood all the way or at least an RMC... but I'm sure I can see myself being disappointed!
