Well shoes have to be worn on all rides. However, loose shoes like flip flops CANNOT be worn on the likes of Nemesis Inferno and Samurai where your feet are dangling, as they can be lost very easily. :)

It's also for evacuation purposes. You wouldn't want to be walking down the evacuation steps on Infernos lift hill in flip flops. Same goes on most rides!

The thing is the park probably are working on it, just not visibly. The ride's shut and whilst it's a pain, everyone just needs to be patient and see what they do with this. If it's in the same state in 2 years time then yes you can start to worry :P

I'm not sure why it seems to have always been a thing with Thorpe and Chessington where they offer very little transparency as to what is going on. They should just be honest and say "Yeah, it's knackered, would cost £50,000 to fix it up so we're going to get some plans in to demolish it and build a new coaster" which I'd say is the most likely scenario at the moment.

If loggers leap is removed and a new ride opens in its place, it has then been redeveloped.

This is not rollercoaster tycoon, you can right click on loggers leap, delete it and place a new ride in its place over night, ideas need to be thought up, plans drawn up this is before they even apply for any permission needed but is all part of a re-development process.

True, but Loggers Leap should have remained open throughout this process. Unless, as I am guessing, the cost of keeping it in a state where it is able to run was too much, so they are just letting it rot whilst making up other plans for the area.

What do you expect it to do, go for a walk?

I don't think it's unrealistic to expect the park to at least be doing something with it?

The whole thing seems bizarre, you have to ask why they are doing this? I can't think of any obvious reason, so they must have one. I'm sure that it wouldn't be closed unless there is plans or good reason.

If you're going next work, definitely do the fastpass. What with it being a holiday week and thanksgiving, I'd expect the park to be extremely busy although you'd have to ask on American forums to see if this is the case. I really liked magic Mountain on my visit, if you're looking for a load of thrill rides, this is your best bet. When I went, the only ride we queued for was Full Throttle and that was only because it can only run one train. Everything else was walk on. Tatsu, Scream (guilty pleasure), Apocalypse, Riddlers Revenge, Ninja and Goliath are awesome.

I'm not really a fan of Knotts frankly, it gets more visitors per year then Magic Mountain and has nowhere near as many decent rides. Silver Bullet is okay if you like your slick and forceless B&M's and Xcelerator is nowhere near as intense as Stealth. I like Disney California Adventure and would recommend it, however it will be absolutely joyless in Thanksgiving week.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for this, I had a read of your report from your visit, really helpful alongside this. Was surprised that it'll be busy on Thanksgiving as I thought people would stay at home, but it seems judging from numerous sources online that it gets very busy. Also, paired with the fact travel will be a nightmare then it leaves me with Friday / Saturday, both of which I imagine will be rammed also.

Looks like I'll give Disney a miss until I come back after Christmas!

We were naive and thought we'd get a scope of how busy the park was first to see if it was worth the outlay, absolute waste of time and wish we had pre-booked the flash pass to save all the time queueing for it.

Once we got the flash passes, we felt VIP. Practically everything is walk on if you book it immediately after riding your last coaster. Get the platinum flash pass.

Put it this way, you're travelling all that way. The last thing you want is to leave having only done half of the park and having spent most of your day queueing.

We hired a car and I'd totally reccomend that you do if you're going to LA. If not, we did see some buses on the way in so there's hope if you do a bit of research. Maybe try and pool an Uber otherwise?

Let me know how you get on man or if you need any more help with your trip, I had a superb day, you'll be completely and utterly overwhelmed. Top coaster of the day for me was a toss-up between Twisted Colossus and Escape from Krypton with Goliath getting an honourable mention. But honestly, almost everything there by far and away blows the UK parks out of the water.

Excellent advice, thanks! I'll certainly be getting that platinum flash pass then as I'll probably do the trip by myself and I'm certainly not one for queuing. I live about a 2 hour train ride from Los Angeles and it looks as though there is a connection from there to Six Flags, will have to look into that a bit more. The only park I've visited outside the UK was Parc Asterix so I'm really looking forward to this now! You've certainly got me buzzed for it.

Do you recommend any other parks out here by any chance? I travel around the entire country for work but think I'm out of season for Cedar Point, so that'll have to wait.

Be interesting to know if they still have this rule, it's understandable if you're working any of the fairground stalls or shops, but not back room staff, I seem to remember ASDA paid off someone in a similar situation because they didn't want the legalities of such a ruled tested in court.

Yeah it was quite a shame, I was looking after Guest Services for the entire park on certain days which was great. It was the best job I had for sure. I wouldn't be where I am if I didn't work there and I wouldn't be where I am if they didn't sack me either!

  8. So, it's thanksgiving over here in the USA next week and I'm having a couple of days off forced upon me! I was planning to head to Los Angeles to do some shopping, but more importantly it looks like I'll have time to visit this rollercoaster mecca.

I've had a read through a few of the reviews on here and also on TripAdvisor and it seems to be a mixed bag really. I'm not expecting an awful lot from it in all honesty I've read that it's dirty, the staff are rude and it's packed full of nobheads.

My plan is to purchase the fast pass things which appear to be valid all day for all of the rides!

I'll give you a report and try and get some pictures from my visit, but in the meantime if anybody has been and has any advice that'd be sweet :)

    Cheers,
    JD

Wow that's a pretty harsh rule

To be fair, rules are rules and they are there for a reason. Main reason being to ensure that staff are not pocketing money whilst they are working. With me not being in a cash handling role, this would have been difficult however.

Have played it a little bit its realy good, find the coaster builder a little tough to get used to but will no doubt get there!

Looked forward to getting home last night and giving it a go, looks as though my laptop doesn't meet the spec. Should really have checked before buying it, gutted!

It managed to boot up, but I could only see the landscape.

  11. Hi All,

I'm back on here after many, many years for reasons which I shall go on to explain shortly! My name is Jack, I used to work with Marc and Co on Thorpe Park Mania about 10 years ago. I was prone to getting into arguments with the team on occasion and deleting the entire forum:rolleyes:. I also worked as a Senior Host in Guest Services for Chessington back when I was 16 and was sacked for carrying cash with me on site (Thank god this happened).

So why am I back? Well I now live in the West Coast of the United States (Santa Barbara, California) and I've been thinking about some things to do in my spare time and have had an idea to visit a few Theme Parks across the country and revive an old hobby of mine! I'll be looking for some advice on.. well, pretty much all I can get in terms of where would be best to visit etc and it would all be much appreciated.

I know a few of the guys here will be remember me, so will be great to talk again and also speak to some of the newer people also.

    Thanks,
    Jack-
