    Not entirely the case.

As I understand it, the RnR clone was a rushed design and project following the fire, as the park wanted something in that place. This would also suit Tussauds' want to accelerate development at the park, especially since they wanted a coaster for 2001 (the original plan was for Project Odyssey, which became Colossus, to open in 2001).

If I remember correctly, the reason the RnR clone fell through was due to infrastructure issues. Something to do with the electrical infrastructure of the park and that needing improvements for a coaster to go in that area I think?

But clearly that area had been marked for development for a new coaster for a long time. Would WWH have always been on the chopping block? Impossible to say. It certainly could have survived and been a part of 2000s Thorpe. Despite the lack of dark ride developments by Tussauds, you certainly wouldn't rule out the possibility that they would have turned it into a shooter with a dark scary theme to target the "thrillseeker" audience.

I don't doubt it was rushed, but as I work in the construction sector I know how long it can take to draw up a planning application to that detail and it wouldn't have been quick even if you wanted to!

  2. It would have been removed actually not long after the fire. I recall seeing a planning application for a coaster on the site prior to the fire which would have removed the attraction.

The coaster was a clone of Rock n Rollercoaster, and I think the application was submitted in May 2000, however the fire occurred in July 2000.

EDIT: Got my dates wrong, it was submitted 2 months after the fire, however that still means it was likely being designed and developed before the fire.

Does anyone know what the future holds for Rocky Express? I hope it’s relocated and reopened next season. It looks like Project Exodus may be shelved. If this is correct could Rocky receive a repereve. Rocky was only refurbished a couple of closed seasons ago and is an iconic and popular ride. Rocky Express is a great Family ride. I’m 22 yet still rode a similar ride at Chessington last week. The ride in question is Seastorm. It had a massive que and was unanimously popular. There were a couple of young lady’s about 16/17 years old riding.

    Nothing officially confirmed.

Presumed to be destined for the scrapheap.

@Hethetheth your information is incorrect. Pirate Adventure closed in 2015. This was within the past decade. Europa Park didn’t totally rebuild Piraten In Batavia. A few of the scenes and animatronics featured in the original are still used. The claim that Europa Park is Europe’s biggest Theme Park is incorrect. Disneyland Paris is Europe’s biggest Theme Park.

A few minor inaccuracies doesn't change my overall point.

@Hethetheth thease props were sold under the ownership of the Bryan Family. Now the Looping Group own Drayton Manor, they could install state of the art animatronics etc. Europa Park practically refurbished Piraten In Batavia from the ground up. The Bryan’s weren’t going to reopen and refurbish the Rapids. This made me think could next years new attraction be a reimagined Pirate Adventure.

Not happening. Europa Park are the biggest theme park in Europe. Their attraction burned down and the started rebuilding almost immediately. Drayton closed theirs over a decade ago because they couldn't afford it. Other than being themed to pirates there is no similarity between the two rides. There is no evidence it will open again other than wishful thinking.

I wonder if The Looping Group will reopen Pirate Adventure? Drayton Manor seems to be refurbishing and reopening, many of their classic attractions. I’ve heard that maintenance people have been in and out of The Pirate Adventure building,so who knows? Personally I think Pirate Adventure will reopen in a similar format to Piraten In Batavia at Europa Park. Not only would the return of Pirate Adventure be a boost to Drayton Manor but also the U.K.

Not happening. They sold off lots of props not that long ago.

I have a idea for Thorpe Park.

They should make a ride themed around Minecraft and call it Minecraft the ride. They would demolish The Swarm and build a Minecraft themed laser shoot ride on the island. It would be much better than what’s there currently.

What do you guys think of my idea?

    Not keen,not likely

  8. To come back to your horror movie analogy, this actually does explain why thrill parks can sometimes struggle.

Generally movie studios will try to keep their movies with a lower age rating because statistically movies available to more people perform better at the box office. This is not always the case, but generally this is the case.

Horror movies have to try very hard to appeal to the more niche audience because they cannot get a wider audience due to their ratings.

Teenagers going to thrill parks likely spend less than a larger family (which may also include some teenagers!) going to a family park. Everyone can go to a family park, but not everyone will go to a thrill park.

@Inferno for your information Derren Brown is very much current!! I went to see his new Show named The Showman last year. Brown is a very talented Man. Even when deceased he will be a classic like Walt Disney.

Yes, his shows are still popular, but the peak of his popularity has passed.

I don't think think the Disney comparison is even close though.

I presume Thorpe have retained the Octopus Garden rides with the option to rebuild them.

    I sincerely doubt that.

Flying fish was only in storage from 2005-2006 and erected in 2007 again...not 11 years!

Hi it appears there is a chance that Pirates Cove is being refurbished this closed season. A new ride is even mentioned. I think that the recently closed Rocky Express from Thorpe, could be rethemed and relocated. Even know Rocky Rocky Express is technically older than Seastorm mechanically it’s newer. All of the electrical and mechanical components were replaced last closed season, during a major overhaul. Last  year I was told that Seastorm and Scorpion Express would be leaving Chessington. I’ll link my source below

    Food for thought? https://chessingtonbuzz.com/news/pirates-cove-refurb-for-2022

Your 'source' even says "this is just speculation".

    -Gruffalo is staying

    -Scorpion Express is staying

    -Tomb Blaster is staying

Hi all as we know Rocky Express is being removed from Thorpe. Can anyone tell me if it’s been sold. If it has can someone inform me on which Theme Park have bought it? If you would rather contact me confidentiality you can PM on Messenger.

Has is officially been announced as permanently closed though? My understanding was that was mostly speculation?

I've heard rumours that Rocky Express is being removed whilst the other small rides (TT/ LJ) in that area are being relocated to make way for a "family-&-thrill" coaster (if that makes sense) which will open either 2023/2024.

We're those rumours from the janitor or one of the staff at Burger King?

  15. 1. The size - It's so compact and easy to navigate, which means it's easy to just turn up, do a few rides and leave when you want. I rarely spend a full day there now, but it's sometimes nice to pop in and do some rides.

    2. The coasters - World beating? No. Fun? Yes. Sure it could do with some more of them, but Stealth, Inferno and Swarm are solid.

    3. Fright Nights - for the last few years this is the main reason I've gone. It's good fun!
