  1. Also, having not ridden Smiler, aren't the airtime hills, or at least one of them, trimmed? How much trimming have you guys felt when you have ridden?

  2. This.

Lionsgate had already given the source material, the Saw movies.

The Saw construction blog that Thorpe Park updated quite regularly, spoke about how most of the theming was designed and led by one of Merlins own. I forget her name.... Which says a lot about the creative team Merlin have/had.

Or to be precise, not just the creative team they have, but the budget they are allocated.

  3. I highly doubt they would just plow money senselessly into a ride which they do not believe is providing any sort of return for them. Clearly whatever amount of money they have spent on it, they have deemed it still profitable. The minute they deem it to be a total loss, no doubt it will head for the scrap heap.

  4. Okay I'm all for constructive criticism of a park but you can't say they don't do maintenance else they couldn't open safely, it's whether they go the extra mile on stuff beyond the bare essentials is the case ;) In that case I'd say it's a mixed bag especially after this year. I mean the market square floor compass is extra, and whether people choose to admit it or not the way in which RMT has been changed to Scorpion express is extra (especially compared to flying fish).

If Chessington were to bring a ride back (which I don't think they ever would) I'd think they'd go for Bubbleworks as that appears to from a GP's point of view has struck a cord more so than Terror Tomb.

  5. They don't have anything like that at present, as everythings about customer service rather than throughputs.

However, I believe they're constrained by the rules governed by their predecessor of rides manager. The rules he's put in place (and probably will be hard to fight to show that reducing/removing these won't affect safety) basically disallow any sort of decent throughputs. Think one exit stairs in use, think not opening gates until everyones left etc.

But emphasis on the pre bit, he is no longer the manager so can't his rules be tweaked? Unless he still works there...

I get customer service but surely you can balance customer service with acceptable throughput? I mean what better customer service can you provide than working as efficiently as possible to reduce people's queue time yet still maintaining a level of guest interactivity to keep them informed and entertained?

  6. I don't understand how it can get so bad. Is there not any form of performance monitoring in place so management can see which team member perform best? Coupled with any kind of incentive scheme for teams who perform best I.e. achieve the best throughput?

Or am I in a make believe land of clouds and fairy dust?

  7. I don't know why but I'm not on the wood train yet. I mean granted the last wooden coaster I went on was on both sides of Gwazi so that possibly knocked out any nice thoughts I had about them!

Right now I feel like this new ride should have a focus on real ejector seat airtime, something which can be achieved with more than just a wooden roller coaster. I'm feeling a B&M Hyper, make it a B&M trio at Thorpe, maybe they'd get some kind of discount ^_^

  8. Apologies Benin I should have been clearer that I knew it was in a potentially dangerous position as opposed to somewhere away from track. At the end of the day, whatever birds nest it is, most birds will hardly stay put with the noise Colossus makes in the cobra roll. All it takes is one bird to either react and fly the wrong direction into a train or be ballsy and think it can take on an oncoming train and we could end up with a train loaded with guests valleyed in the cobra roll.

  9. This was the video I shot of it yesterday on Saturday, it was on a great setting but the first initial parking attempts were atrocious like in this video, it got much better though :P

If your wondering why it sounds bassy it was picking up X in the background lol

Firstly, how loud is X now that you can hear it near Samurai!? Surely in the Colossus queue line it must be quite annoying...

That definitely looks like an improvement but that random long pause at the end looked odd and certainly won't help throughput.

  10. Depends on the type of bird and the location as to whether Thorpe can do anything about it...

Even if the breed is under some sort of protection, surely the safety of the public supersedes that of a bird? Whilst something is highly unlikely to happen, considering the risks to do with theme parks, it's better to be safe than sorry.

  11. All joking aside, I'm surprised it hasn't been spotted and dealt with. Whilst I know the Cobra Roll isn't the speediest point of the ride so we wouldn't be talking a pigeon in the face incident like at Kingda Ka but I'd doubt birds and coaster wheels mix very nicely...

  12. I can't help but feel that these rules are made by people that have no freakin' clue or has based on some basic "logic" and then just taken it way too far. Most of them, all appeared to be geared to some extent towards reducing unnecessary wear and tear to prolong the life of parts. With Vampire? I don't know, maybe something to with prolonging the life of anti-rollbacks, lift hill motor etc. It's probably quite wearing to run a motor on a reduced speed, stop and then start up again as opposed to letting it do a complete run to get the train up the hill.

  13. What's even more "not nice" is opening a ride with problems that go unfixed ;) . Also, I don't know if it's lighting as well but this picture shocks me at how grotty the track has become. They did a good clean and tidy up this closed season, maybe the next will be Colossus final repaint.

  14. Thats unfortunate. From a POV I've seen, they do seem to have done that on tracks such as Knife Party & Swedish House Mafia's Antidote (they've edited out the lyrics section in the middle where there is no beat). If they could keep it consistent then that would be better.

  15. Place bets now on how long till it goes bang again.

My bet is it will shutdown before the end of the day :/

    Write your own jokes ;)

Hope it holds out this season, I will be shocked if Slammer has another season for serious downtime and it survives to tell the tale another year.

  16. Yeah this is a video of Vortex just to show how bad it was, really bad setting, didnt even make it 90 degrees!

That cycle looks abysmal! If it's going to run like that you may as well downgrade it's thrill rating and put Zodiac back up in it's place.

  17. I guess Thorpe thought lets quite while we're ahead and not push our luck with the locals. I'm sure even the height they went with caused issues with people but if god forbid they built "the UK's tallest", neighbours would jump all over that.

  18. Probably because roller coasters are the single biggest thing that attracts customers to a theme park. No one sits there and goes my god I need to get on Quantum ASAP. Thorpe have just gone for the extreme on the map,

I completely agree but I have still equally have had people who want to go to Thorpe because "Oh my god you just have to go on Slammer it's mental". I get what your saying but come on your going to give Storm Surge more prominence than some of the thrill rides? ;)
