  1. I don't get the TPWW hate. I'm no fan, I'm no fan of any vlogger really as I find the whole thing a bit of a cringy embarrassment, but he turns out comparatively decent videos and seems a nice enough chap. I watched this Adventure Island one, what with it being my home park, and he shows the place off really well. Made me want to visit, as his series of videos at the end of summer from loads of smaller parks did for those places for the couple I saw, and having people visit is exactly what these smaller parks need.
  2. This is a very silly way to look at things. The park have put more than reasonable measures in place to be covid safe, you can't blame them for who turns up from where.
  3. This is an excellent move. Sell fewer for more money, make the same money. Now for the same move with fastrack please...
  4. If you struggle with when and when not to take things literally maybe look at a posts reacts to give you a steer. 🙂
  5. I know sarcasm doesnt always translate well in writing, but I'm hoping I'm missing some here otherwise this might just be the most deluded themepark statement since scenic world announced orphan rockers opening date.
  6. Sadly I ultimately think it's right that an open water system water ride does not have a significant amount of investment to keep it operational. It's not up to current regulations for a new build and I can see a time when they are health and safety'd out of existence. What would be perfect for the park would be a new modern flume alongside and interacting with a family thrill coaster.
  7. Adventure Island Errrr.... Billy Butlins Fairground, Bognor. Oh dear. Next year should be better, daughter is just about the magical 0.9 mark so kiddie credits ahoy.
  8. Trademark on Croc Drop has been disputed by someone it seems, so maybe they'll be forced into something a bit more imaginative? I was thinking Never Drop n Smile at a Crocodile, after the crappy kiddie drop towers. (Although I thought Drop n Smile was a generic name for crappy kiddie drop towers so people would know what I meant, but it seems it's just the one a Southend called that so that doesn't work and I apologise for an atrocious attempt at humour)

    2021 Season

Reports coming out of USA and China that Stealth blown bulb vaccine only around 80% effective.
  10. The thing that really made Valhalla was it's extremes and it's scale. Assuming the ride layout is largely unchanged that should remain solid. The extreme wetness we can live with being toned down, but if it also loses its extremes of temperature and spectacle as I fear with the expense of those effects being well documented it's not going to get a good reception, and rightly so.
  11. The question we all need to be asking of course is 'can you RMC a log flume'?

    2021 Season

I imagine next year will be a near repeat of this year. TWD, DBGTROTD, BM all closed. Capacity issues elsewhere. If only they had a nice open space like a farm to relax in, a large capacity train ride to take you there, an event space like an arena where people could be spread over a large searing area, or a log flume where each riding group could have their own socially distanced ride vehicle.
  13. Well this thread was a massive waste if time, wasn't it?! 😄😄 My plans for 2021 - maybe leave the house?

  15. True, although I read elsewhere that towers had started advertising for actors which is what made me think of it. I'd expect a similar approach across the estate, but wouldn't be at all surprised if there were no mazes, I suppose any recruitment now is non committal on Merlin's part and can be pulled nearer the time.
  16. In my defence I'm not just a wimp! 😃 Goudrix has been retracked since I visited and supposedly is immeasurably better than it was before. Imagine your second ride magnified. I'm not going to forgive that contraption its sins. Sad to hear you didn't like Zeus, I thought it was incredible. Hopefully it's just you having bad taste and not that they've let it deteriorate!
  17. Thinking COVID, I can imagine the maze dispatches will just be in your 'social group', which will hit capacity hard. As the costs per dispatch do not vary I wonder whether ticketing wise you'll pay a set amount for a slot, rather than per person? You'd get to chose how personal (and expensive) an experience you get.
  18. It's a HUGE deal in mine. Getting night rides and getting mazes done is already an either/or affair, this just makes it worse. If they really really must lop an hour off then open an hour later.

I'd have exactly the same attitude. I wouldn't hold the park at fault regardless of who got hurt, even if it was me let alone family or friends, not unless they gave them the knife or set up the fight. This is one of the major things wrong with the world in my eyes; everything is always someone else fault. Someone should have prevented, someone should have intervened, someone should have seen the future. The suspect is the suspect. You can mitigate against a risk, but you can not eliminate all danger. The security as it is is a reasonable response to the risk presented. With this being the first incident of this type in 40 years, how many issues have they prevented with their actions in this time? Loads I expect. Considering your opinion of their clientele you'd be hard pressed to argue against that having been the case, but you can't prove the effectiveness of a preventative measure. You can learn from incidents, you can see how something happened and amend your processes for the future, but that does not prove an ability to have foreseen.

The only person who's fault this was was the person carrying the knife. To try to deflect any blame on to Thorpe is plain wrong. It doesn't matter what measures they put in place, if someone wants to get something in they shouldn't get in they will. The best way to reduce the risk of someone trying is random searches of a differing nature, and that's exactly what Thorpe do. I'm sure there'll be a short term reassurance effort where they cause hours of queues going OTT with searches but it'll be back to normal soon enough, just as it should be.
  21. They're not adjustable, but they can be on or off. On test runs with empty trains they're off to prevent stalling, with riders they're on to prevent fun overspeeding.

Hey, it's just as much fun here being a miserable cynic as it is being fanatical about anything any Merlin park has done for a decade. Stick around and hurumph about like me. 👍
  23. I read somewhere Thirteen has its trims off, like a proper grown up coaster. Can anyone confirm?
