    Fright Nights 2014

Could be they want to use the old Asylum location as a Halloween attraction aimed for families as apposed to a scare maze? I would be surprised if it isn't used for something. It will be tricky to tell who they are aiming the event for. Judging by the use of movies involved, I would say they aren't looking at families whatsoever.

    Fright Nights 2014

I know it isn't returning, but hasn't the maze itself been completely gutted anyway? I am sure it was used as that showcase, Brainiac show earlier this year and from the pictures, the interior is now just a hollowed out shell. (I will have to check that)

    Legoland

I disagree. Thorpe, Alton and Chessington have been known to produce quality theming (Nemesis, Swarm, Tidal etc) but I wouldn't say they are consistent. Whereas Legoland, while theming is generally smaller, I would say it is much more considered. All you have to do is look around the area to see little theming touches that just bring the space together. The joke pirate, the lizards hidden in trees throughout adventureland, the models placed either side of paths (Land of the Vikings), the singing heads, the pirate band, Enchanted Forest models . They are all things that most parks wouldn't bother with, but Legoland do. Vinyl/2d signs are becoming far too common is my point. The Skyrider sign is now vinyl, the Pirate Falls is vinyl, The swarm is a 2d sheet and could have been far more creative. I have never seen the Thirteen or Sub Terra signs so I can't comment there..

    Legoland

This is true! I know the updated Fairy Tale Brook is specially guilty of this and more recently, the Pirate Falls. I don't mind so much if the sets aren't Lego but all large scale objects and figures most certainly should be. I particularly took a dislike to the plastic sea monster/octopus legs that come out in the lagoon before the lifthill. Everything in there is lego, so why can't that be? Maybe Merlin's lazy side is rubbing off on Legoland afterall? EDIT On a side note. Looks like the Pirate Falls hideout (where the drop is), has been completely rebuilt. It looks to be the same design but the wood is a lighter tone and looks much newer. A Merlin park that actually invests and maintains their log flume rather than let it decay and then decides to remove the features that actually made it awesome in the first place. I am looking at you Loggers tunnel and Dragon Falls.
  5. I just received a letter through my door from London Resort Company Holdings (the developer of Paramount Park, or London Paramount as the project is being named). They should have contacted everyone in the local area. Basically it was explaining the rough plans for the park and what the project is about. It also mentioned they are also going to submit proposals regarding the adjacent, nearby land between here and Ebbsfleet International. It also outlines various consultation periods where locals can go and see the plans on show and query anything. Hopefully I will be able to make one. There is not much on it at the moment but the company have revealed a query/information website. http://www.londonparamount.info/

    Legoland

I went to LEGOLAND today as well funnily enough and would pretty much agree with that whole comment. Pirate Shores was actually pretty decent, far better than I gave it credit for. The Pirate Falls revamp looked great. Had a few old bits that were nice to see. Of course, the original will always be the best to me but there is no doubt kids of today will grow up with the same attitude torwards the new one. It certainly gets you wetter.. (Plus lots of little interactive elements) The old queueline to the Pirate Falls was gutted and redesigned. Part of the old Pirate Training camp now replaces the duplo area in the queue. Castaway Camp looked impressive and was extremely busy which was good to see. Burger Kitchen looked nice though not a patch off Crossed Ribs BBQ in my opinion. LEGOLAND can do themeing. So my question is, why can't the rest of Merlin? Despite this, why do all Merlin attraction signs have to be 2d vinyl signs. Can't we be a bit more creative here? I miss the Jungle Coaster big time.. All in all, I am 18 and had an awesome day. (wow, I need to grow up)

    Legoland

While the the Dragon, for me still has plenty of appeal, I have felt the ride could do with some general TLC and improvements. I know for one, they removed some of the figures in the first scene a few years back, and to be knowledge, they have not yet been replaced. I am not entirely sure what effects aren't working anymore (seemed to be okay on the whole when I went last season ) Maybe the bat tunnel scene before you enter the lifthill? I remember my biggest turn off was when they replaced the iconic soundtrack with those TVs and sponsors.
  8. Agreed. Best TPM site so far and I am especially loving the archive feature. Well done to all involved!
  9. Does this maybe, possibly mean that seeing as the whole "the public will only buy into gimmicks/USP" concept seems to have fallen flat on its face with both the Swarm and now the Smiler, Varney and co will finally try investing in a genuinely fun, thrilling rollercoaster. Cough woodie... Answer: Probably not
  10. I don't care if its old music. I love it!

    CBeebies Land

Not bad for a Merlin low/medium investment. Bit like Angry Birds Land, I think it will attract the people its been designed to attract.
  12. I genuinely don't have an issue with it (minus the fact I despise theme park IPs). Bumper cars are always a laugh; fairground or theme park and certainly suitable for families. The reopening of the cinema complements this and the area in general looks much brighter and generally more enjoyable than it did in the past five or so years. I think kids will buy it.. I always hate seeing old areas/rides go but time gotta keep rollin'.
  13. I like it as a website but not completely sure whether it/or the new branding is right for a theme park. Maybe it is just a major contrast compared to the former that I will gradually need to get used too.
  14. Cheers guys; sounds promising and really starting to fancy this now. Don't see why I couldn't make it. Just gotta check behind the sofa for money so I can get my funds up.
  15. Can anyone let me know what the MOS events are like? I have heard pretty good reviews but don't know much about them. Much like everyone else, I want to go but would have to have enough money for the day and staying overnight.
  16. Fantastic concept art. I hope the final outcome will be as interesting and detailed as the pictures show.
  17. I know Adventure Island's late closings are a key part of their business model with tourists visiting in the day and locals preferring visiting in the evenings due to the reduced prices/deals.
  18. How original So bored of Merlin.
  19. I went to AI a few weeks back and found the staff to actually be one of the highlights of my visit. Admittedly I found the gokart staff slightly blunt but most of them were anything if not talkative. They would even chat with you when the ride was in action; was quite bizarre. Even managed to take a selfie with one of them.
  20. Been wanting to go to Blackpool since forever. Would technically love to do the whole extended weekend though with the overnight accommodation, the park itself, the tour and the Merlin attraction tickets, plus food, travel and evening activities, I don't think I would be able to afford it by a long shot. I also wouldn't be able to get up there unless someone would kindly be able to offer me a lift. I would happily pay for petrol money. Put me down as a maybe. I recon I could make it work.
  21. The Trocodero was/is excessively bigger than Namco in County Hall. If they had attempted to restructure the business on the scale of Namco after the fall of Sega World, they may have made something for themselves but instead, machines/attractions were removed and as nothing substantial replaced them, whole floors were left practically empty. Not a good first impression at all.. Such a shame. I remember hearing great things about the place and feeling rather let down upon my visit, especially after seeing all those cool pictures from its early years.
  22. First ever trip to Thorpe, hot summer day, school holidays, my expectation to get on all the rides, three pieces of KFC chicken followed by Slammer, and my sheer naivety. I will say no more as to why the day didn't go as well as I had originally anticipated.

    Paultons Park

Very nice piece of modern architecture, though I must agree, it hardly invokes the thrill/adventure vibe that should be associated with a theme park entrance. Having said that, do any UK parks carry that style anymore In short, I like it but I believe it to be more suited to a retail/business unit than a theme park.
  24. I am sitting on the fence with this one. On another note, Pleasure Beach did remove a few classics some years ago. The park is known for them and I think they would struggle if they attempted to recify that with new thrills that they may not have the space or money to produce effectively. As it is a business, sacrafice will be required but is taking away classics (like the River Caves) a wise move?. I would suggest not. I think they got it right with revamping Goldmine and just hope the business side of things improve as a result.
