  1. I'll write some quick first impression thoughts

    Big Top -

fav. Literally loved this maze and it's such an improvement from last year. Even though there was a lack of actors the ones in it really tried their hardest. Lists of spooky moments and the room with the masks in was wonderful <3 got lost in the maze several times! Being front of the group really helps. Best scares. I wish they'd show off the theming  more obviously outside though!

    Cabin In the Woods -

Actors in this really went all out. Despite it getting stale now after a few years they still use different scare tactics and after being trapped in a room with 'Terry' and having actors follow me throughout rooms was really intimidating. Super spooky.

    platform 15 -

did this in the light for less spooky feels and it was ok! Not amazing but not awful. The tunnel was waaaaay too long and it just made it awkward. I loved the seance bit and the bit with the train! Hopefully I'll do this in the dark tomorrow to get super spoop.

    blair witch -

nothing new really aside from the hanging witch signs but the jump scares this time were creative. People hiding in tents and crawling on the floor. Shed was bad as usual but smelt nice.

    Saw -

awful awful awful run through of this. No actors in first room and no scares. Gonna do this one during the beginning of mazes opening tomorrow to try and get a better go.

Roaming actors werre spooky and interactive I love.

    Thars my A* review x

  2. I went on it for the first time EVER (shock I know) today after the last 4 times I've been ITS been closed and I felt the first bit was really well done. The VR made me feel disorientated and I really liked the different train shells but the second section was... interesting? The whole queuing escepe was a disaster and the people I was on with made it even worse. I'll give it another go tomorrow probably to try and get a better experience but effects were broken and I feel pretty meh about it considering I was so excited during construction.

  3. Make sure said person doesn't put any adhesives (liquid latex, spirit gum, prosaide) on anyone's eyebrows or hairy areas as you'll go bald ;) better see you lot walking around! Didn't bring any makeup with me this time :(

Just arrived, going to go to saw first when the evening starts as I don't think it will be busy and can hopefully get a couple runs in, also does anybody know if the sidemen will be on park tonight?

I believe a few of the Sidemen and friends are there tonight yes!

  5. SPOOPY TIMES!!!! Halloween is the only time of year I can do freelance makeup work considering I hate editorial stuff so if you wanna look extra spoopy you know who to call. I shall compile a list of horror films that are good for the spooky time of year.

Nightmare on Elm Street - it's a given TBH but dream warriors is the best. (Welcome to prime time, bitch!)

Evil Dead (2013 remake) - all the gore effects in this are makeup! No CGI involved. The raining blood scene is my dream.

V/H/S 1 + 2 - fab little set of short films combined into one! The cult short in V/H/S 2 is a personal fav of mine.

House of 1000 Corpses - Rob Zombie. That is all.

Hostel - Gory and gritty and a bit weird. Eli Roth does some questionable things but this was great.

Thirteen Ghosts - oh my god the makeup in this gives me nightmares. Robert Kurtzman YOU LEGEND

American Psycho - I've watched this film countless times and I honestly wouldn't mind if Patrick Bateman killed me. :)

    honourable mentions -

Antichrist, Child's Play, It Follows, Don't Breathe, The Girl with all the Gifts, As Above So Below, Emelie, Matyrs

also Dead Set but that's a tv show but it's the best don't test me thanks.

Most likely, Like who saw KATIE HORROR HOPKINS last year, cause

I didnt and I also did containment, as the actor KATIE HORROR HOPKINS

was suppose to be in Containment, I believe.

Yeah that was more of a stunt for them! I believe she was at media preview to try to create more drama. IMG_8440.JPG

Rick Genest is reasonably popular within pop culture (Born This Way video, iconic fashion model and used within media makeup) so having him as a permanent feature throughout the event would bring more attention to him and could make it unsafe! Although I wouldn't complain if he was there :)

    Ghost Machine

The maze would be themed to a "machine," with an industrial-style exterior.  Guests would enter the first room, which would be themed to a control room, where they would be briefed by a "Ghost Control" operative on the testing of the "ghost machine" and how they were a part of the first test.  The purpose of the machine would be to allow the "spirit world" to be viewed by people in the real world.  Whilst nothing dramatic would happen in this scene, a feel of foreboding would be created by atmospheric audio and small items of theming (e.g. a "failed tests" notepad on the desk, covered in blood).

After the briefing guests would be directed into the second section of the maze which would consist of dimly lit corridors - the purpose of this would be to prepare guests for the test; therefore there would be safety speeches playing through speakers as well as instructions on the wall.

A second more sophisticated control room is reached, illuminated in red.  After a short spiel ("the test will now begin") a button is pressed by an actor and the room plunges into darkness.

Seconds later the room lights up again, this time with black lighting, and a single hooded figure is visible in the middle of the room.  Also visible is the body of someone with the "Ghost Control" uniform in the corner of the room, which is presumed to be the person who pressed the button.  Audio is very loud at this point, with ghostly metallic voices speaking of how "their world" shouldn't be visible to the living world.

Emergency lights would flash up in the room, with a door at the end of the room opening up revealing a corridor.  Guests would go through this door, which would lead to the "central core" of the machine.  This section would be an intense strobe maze with emergency sirens & lighting, and "ghosts" (actors) appearing from hidden spaces.  The ghosts would be people from different eras, furthering the sense of unease throughout.

Finally, guests reach the end of the strobe maze and head into a final corridor.  This is dimly lit, but initially gives guests a false sense of security.  Guests reach a wall (concealed door), which is seemingly a dead end, and the voice of a "Ghost Control" operative is heard through speakers telling people to stand still and stay calm.  Following this, the lights slowly fade with the music getting louder.  After a 5 second pause the lights quickly come back up in a blinding white colour, a horrific wail is heard from behind guests* and door at the end of the room opens to reveal the exit.

    * During this scene, wind effects would be utilised from behind the guests to give the sense of something rushing towards them.

Fab idea! Sounds like the use of UV with black light would work really well with this!

  8. It's unlikely they'll go all out with makeup due to the nature of this event, in the mazes it's dark so there':

no need to show detail! Also the makeup used can be uncomfortable on actors faces for long periods of time. :) they mentioned before in CITW BTS they wanted to play on character looks more (including a wolf suit) but alas it isn't possible due to health and safety :)
