First off, I don't know a huge amount about all of this and what trade deals and the free movement of people deals. But a thought just popped in to my head. What would happen if Scotland left the UK, remained as part of the EU and the Britain had restricted terms for the movement of people? I doubt a situation like that would occur, but just curious.

I apologise if it came across as a jibe, it wasn't intended that way. I was trying to compliment the park on the way they are promoting their expansion. I used the comparison to Merlin as unfortunately that is all I know. For me it is nice to see this and I hope we see lots more in the future. Sorry to derail this thread.

One question I am curious about, the £5M fine is likely to come direct from Merlin along with the legal and court costs. However wouldn't the compensation for the victims come out of their public liability insurance? If so it will of course cost them a lot more over the years for the insurance, but the actual costs hitting their bottom line would be lower. Just a thought.

Since this will be my first Fright night, do I need to book the fright night ticket which is online for pass holders, or does that just guarantee entry? The other question is about fast track to the mazes, is this a done thing as I have heard about some pretty big queues. Sorry for my ignorance, but it is bliss.

I will try it again, however having panic attacks, which are normally brought on by large crowds, loud noises and fear, I don't get to go as often as I like. I want to do all of the big coasters in Europe when I get the chance, I don't want fear to be the reason I haven't. Also Equoaster Airtime's Falcon is a very good point.

I completely agree with you. My issue is having two young children who like theme parks and doing things at the weekend, just personally I get a lot more from the Merlin pass. I guess it is just down to how an individual perceives value for money. Some one who is a thrill seeker isn't going to get as much value out of the pass as a family, as I'm more than happy to take the family to different Sea life centres, and to the Midways in London a couple of times a year, as well as the parks. Which means we can be out doing something every other weekend for the majority of the year. I know I am feeding the corporate machine which is Merlin, but unfortunately I have limited funds through out the year to entertain the boys and this pass means I can do more with them. If they decide to charge an extra £10 a year, then I will pay it.

I just want to put a bit of perspective on things. Just had a look at an annual pass for Drayton Manor and the website quoted £70 for a year and Paultons Park was £104 for a year. Now the Merlin is more expensive, but is it better value for money than the others? The issue that does arise is that by buying a Merlin pass you are less likely to visit the smaller independent parks, which then just increases the monopoly of Merlin. However I don't think we can argue that Merlin are ripping us off for what you get, or we can

The way I'm reading that is due to the closure of DBGT on the first night, they are going to give you a second night. I don't see where they are saying it is specifically for DBGT. I just guess there are many ways to read the same information.

For me personally I have a very unhealthy fear of heights/depths. This can be as bad as feeling sick just looking at a pov of a large ride on you tube. I have no idea how to get over this fear. I have done quite a few of the larger coasters in the UK, and once I get past the lift hill then it is smooth (depending on the ride) sailing. The worst bit is the slow lift hill climb, for example Oblivion was not a good experience in the dark, the anxiety took over and ruined the ride for me. Another one was Stealth, which I have only ridden once, if you know what a 3 year old girl screaming sounds like, than imagine that come out of a big 30 something man, not something I'm proud of. I struggle looking up at high objects as well as being on them. I have had this fear since I was about 8. No idea how to get over it, but I also don't want it to stop what I enjoy. If you have a fear just try and be logical about it, don't think about it too much or over analyse it, as that will just make it seem bigger and harder to conquer. If you can't do it one day, then so be it, there is always another time to try. On a side note, I have lots of fears, and to lead a half normal life I have just to suck it up and deal with it.

I tried for 45 minutes. Started refreshing, and all the time the connection timed out. I fully appreciate that the chances of actually getting a ticket for 50p would be slim, at best. What is very frustrating is that they haven't learnt from the Thorpe Park problems, if a company wants to do a great offer, and it is a great one, then they should at least make sure they can provide the chance of getting a ticket to most of people who try. Never mind, life goes on and more important things to worry about.

I actually think £80 is a decent price for what you can get, however if it were £160, I would have to seriously think about it. Of course for some this wouldn't be a problem.

I totally agree that it is oversold, hence why it should be more expensive. But to do that they do need to improve general operations IMO.

I'm afraid I am one of the few who likes the idea of fast-track. Having 2 small young children, it means I am able to ride the big scary ones (as my 5 year old puts it), and it doesn't impact on their day. The idea for the family to visit a theme park is for everyone to have fun. It is not easy to control children (legally) for an hour while daddy goes and spends 1 hour in a queue. If there wasn't fast-track then it would spoil my day. However I do agree that the selling of fast-track in merlin parks seems to be a bit much. I wouldn't mind paying more for the service, as it is giving me more time with my family. A solution to this problem could be to scrap all fast-track sales and implement the reserve and ride system. Should this be offered at an additional cost? Maybe, as there will of course be a loss of revenue. I don't think priority passes should be issued for any complaint, if the complaint is non ride related then they should give out a voucher. I think Legoland do something like that. That way it is a win win for the park, a happy quest who then spends money in the shop.
