It's just no film or photography for commercial gain. Private use is fine.

As discovered yesterday they have a blanket ban on filming on any ride or attraction.

    Can I film

CAN I FILM ON THE RIDES USING A GOPRO/OTHER FILMING EQUIPMENT?

Due to the safety of all our guests, we cannot allow anyone to film on our rides and attractions.

The signage may be out of date and social media may be quite blunt this year however they are still in their right to change and enforce whatever they want in their park. The rules around this were cleared up with operations by social media beforehand. There really shouldn’t be an arguement whether you can or can’t.

Exactly and as people discovered yesterday the parks website, maps and entrance T&C’s all state you can’t film or take photographs on any ride.

Someone else on Twitter also found in Towers terms of entry you can’t take photographs or make videos for commercial gain, does a YouTube channel fall into that trap?

Unless it is expressly prohibited, you are permitted to take photographs and recordings within the Attraction provided that these are solely for private use and are not sold or used for any commercial or public purpose.  By accepting these Entry Conditions, you acknowledge that Merlin may on demand have access to photographs taken and video footage captured by you and request that certain photographs and/or footage are deleted if they are deemed to be offensive to or infringe the privacy of other guests and/or staff. By accepting these Entry Conditions, you agree not to intentionally photograph and/or capture video footage of any individual without that person’s permission and you must adhere to all photography/filming restrictions in place from time to time whilst within the Attraction. From time to time Merlin or other authorised parties carry out photography and/or video recording in the Attraction, which may feature guests. I must confess that Thorpe's new Fastrack system has worked well so far this year. Admittedly the system hasn't been put under the pressure of a hugely busy day yet, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes then. A good system is a good start to ironing out the flaws with it all.

    What’s Thorpe’s new fastrack system?

Hi, does anyone know why the website shows Thorpe Park closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in May and also cannot book tickets for these days. Thanks.

The park is closed on those days as they aren’t busy enough to be open.

I want to know why is the same merch in Towers Trading marked up compared to the other gift shops around the park?

Because it’s right at the exit, people normally want to go round the park without bags so say we’ll get it on way out.

  6. Merlin attempt to use The Smiler incident to save money on it’s tax bill but has request rejected

Varney must be feeling the pressure if they are that desperate.

Blood money! Alton Towers asks for TAX CUT due to profits slump after Smiler rollercoaster horror crash that saw passengers lose limbs

Alton Towers has risked a public backlash by asking for a tax cut because the horrific Smiler rollercoaster crash hit the firm’s takings.

The theme park’s owners blamed a slump in trade on the catastrophe three years ago which left several passengers with life-changing injuries.

It urged the Government to review its £4 million business rates bill – the annual tax it pays on the park – because visitors had been put off thrill rides. But a tribunal in London revealed two weeks ago it had dismissed the request.

Merlin chief Nick Varney said after the court hearing in 2016 that the firm had ‘let people down with devastating consequences.’ At a tribunal in London to hear the case for a tax cut, Merlin said its annual business rates payments should be cut because the public had been put off rollercoasters.

But its request for a review of payments was dismissed by the tribunal, which said in its judgment: ‘There is no doubt that attendances did reduce following the incident.

‘However, what was not known is how much of that was down to a change in attitude of members of the public to thrill rides, the weather, better alternatives, pricing policy, the possible lack of new appealing rides or a lack of confidence in the site owners (as opposed to the park or thrill rides).’

Merlin said its bill had last been assessed two months before the crash. It added: ‘Under advisement following a decline in trading, we requested these rates be reassessed.’

It’s definitely the best version of X I’ve ridden. The theming inside is really great, and there’s a story throughout which explains why you’re getting on a coaster.

The post ride scene could do with some work, there’s a nice set-piece here but you hear some audio and that’s it it’s over.

I hope general public aren’t expecting too much from this and realise that it is just a retheme of X (some people last night were shocked that it’s not a new coaster).

As already posted further up, Thorpe have built the expectations as being right up there. Customers will be expecting what the park have put out there, we shouldn’t have to filter out what’s fake news for PR and what’s reality.

    • The PR artwork implies the trains were completely different
    • This is the worlds scariest ride
    • This is 15 out 10 on the scare scale

viner Daz Black's opinion on the ride (via his instagram story):

"So we just got out of Thorpe Park. We did the new Walking Dead ride. Do not bother. Honestly it is the worst **** I have ever seen and we got soaked, we were in the queue for so long-" (video cuts)

"And the old ride there, No Way Out, they just stuck a few zombies on the walls and it was over in like two seconds and it was the ****test ride I've ever done"

    BIG MOOD

have basically no expectations for this ride. Ruined X totally.

Wow and this is the scariest ride in the world according to Merlin

Hello,I have questions about platinium vip package.

What Is The "Dedicated VIP host" and "Unlimited front of the line Ride and maze access"

You get a member of staff who is with you and assists you as you go round the park.

Your host takes you via the exit on rides and you get the front row seats on every ride, on Mazes you don’t wait and get near instant entry (within few mins)

Worth looking at bpay if you don't have a debit card. Uses the same tech as contactless card but you top it up like an Oyster card: https://www.bpay.co.uk/ . I've bought a wristband to try out next time I'm at Thorpe, it should mean I can safely leave my wallet in my bag/in a locker. I'll report back in a few weeks saying how well it works.

It would be nice if Thorpe/Merlin had their own branded contactless payment system powered by the same technology though. How cool would it be to integrate entry tickets, fast track, digipass and payments into one card/wristband? Chances of it happening are slim/nil though.

Wouldn’t be so sure on that, if they can cut staff to save money they will! Turnstiles at merge points automated RAP / fastrack entry etc
