Posted June 7, 200916 yr comment_59121 Who likes Duel at Alton Towers, or who prefered the old Haunted House attraction that started it all in 1992. This is a room where you can send in some nice comments, memories of the ride and anything else you remember of the ride. I went on this and I used to be scared on that ghostly part when you walked in it took the crap outta me when I rode it when I was little, sorry for the use of bad language people.here's a ride photo of the Haunted House to jog up your memoryif you want the link clicky here...http://s464.photobucket.com/albums/rr9/Bla...ntedHouse-1.jpgif you want the picture then its just below the topic page.
June 7, 200916 yr comment_59130 They ruined the Haunted House by converting it to Duel. I never bother using the gun, I just sit back and enjoy the ride

February 1, 201015 yr comment_81880 How do you time it so your always there when you'll be the only one in the car ?I actually don't mind Duel, but I really wish they would take the LED's off and even if they turn it into a family friendly haunted house like Duel: Live that would be brilliant.
February 1, 201015 yr comment_81882 Seeing as duel is my favoriot dark ride ever, and it currently ranks about 4 on my favoriout rides of all time ever, I can't even imagine how amazing it must have been when it was Haunted house!
February 1, 201015 yr comment_81891 If you've ever been on Duel: Live, then that's an indication, although the original had many more effects. If you love Duel then I think you'd love the Haunted Mansion/ Phantom Manor at the Disney parks.
February 1, 201015 yr comment_81899 How do you time it so your always there when you'll be the only one in the car Go pretty much 95% of the time then lol. Very rarely have I walked in on a queue.
February 1, 201015 yr comment_81900 Yes there's rarely a queue, but it's rare to get a car to yourself
February 1, 201015 yr comment_81902 ..My post says how you get a car to yourself. Just visit 95% of the time, no queue, get car to self.
June 8, 201114 yr comment_117453 I wish I could have had the chance to ride the original Haunted House, from what I have read and all the photos I have seen online I think I would have loved it. I enjoy Duel but I think I would have prefered it just as a normal Dark Ride.
June 21, 201114 yr comment_118245 You would have loved it Phill! It was such a magical ride and everything that IS good about Duel today is mostly what was there before the re-theme. I miss the old finale scene so much!
June 5, 201312 yr comment_160147 Does anyone know of any POV footage from the original Haunted House? I really wish I had experienced it, whilst I like Duel from what I have heard it used to be a much better ride.
June 5, 201312 yr comment_160155 There are no full length POVs that I have stumbled across, but there was a partial video from 1997 or something (I think it has since been taken down). There's this, but it is terribly edited. The video jumps all over the place, the actual ride was not as random as it makes out (also the audio also doesn't fit with what's on screen). Misleading and poor quality but it gives an idea of what it was like. And this shows some shots on opening day. Most of the ride was drastically altered a few months after this video was taken, so very worth seeing.
June 5, 201312 yr comment_160165 Yes, the funny thing is John Wardley is seen in 'Themes, Dreams and Scream Machines' complaining of a media crew shifting the cars around, ruining the blocking and causing the ride's opening to be delayed. And that "preview" clip was filmed on opening day, before the ride officially opened. I bet it was Motormouth that delayed it!
June 5, 201312 yr comment_160167 Thanks for those links, very interesting! Making me wish I had ridden it even more!
March 8, 201510 yr comment_204407 43:39 is where you wanna be, by far the best footage to have ever surfaced. Thank me later.
March 8, 201510 yr comment_204409 Wow. Amazing footage all through that, takes me right back. I'd forgotten about the train, that should never have left.
March 8, 201510 yr comment_204477 Been kicking around for a while, but yes this is great footage as it has a lot of the original stronger lighting design.
March 8, 201510 yr comment_204500 And remarkably good audio to boot! I'd only found this beaut recently. does anyone know what happened to hauntedone?
March 8, 201510 yr comment_204516 Website cost too much to keep online. More active on the facebook page. I've worked a lot with Mick who is HauntedOne for my dark ride project, he hasn't stopped research.
March 9, 201510 yr comment_204539 bet he was happy to see that footage go up, maybe happier in the pants area whats the project then ey?
March 9, 201510 yr comment_204542 Forgive me for advertising! I'm creating a (not dull) documentary on dark rides in Britain and have interviewed most of the original designers that created rides like Hauntd House, Bubble Works and 5th Dimension. I've done an enormous amount of research (it's hard work but well worth it!) so the film really will be very insightful and in depth, I'm amazed at the stories of how these rides were thought up and brought to life in such weird ways and the people I've met have all been fascinating. Haunted House was one of the more simple rides to do, although as you'll probably know it went through so many bizarre changes during construction and post-opening. If you're interested there's a Facebook page, search "British Dark Rides - Better Luck Next Time". I've actually got permission to use that HH footage in the film funnily enough, along with unseen footage. And a heck of a lot more archive material that I've dug up. I'm going to publish the first part of the doc in September.

March 9, 201510 yr comment_204567 That's brilliant news. Always loved dark rides and all the concepts and ideas that go with 'em. Although I did ride the haunted house when it was still knocking about my "home turf" is chessington so the bubbleworks and 5th dimension parts should really overload my brain with useful pub knowledge.
