  1. The third train isn't just having maintenance, it literally doesn't exist anymore.
  2. I've done Dodgems without lap bars once and came out of it with three seperate injuries, one of which lasted for quite a few days. No thanks.
  3. Clearly said by someone who's never been on Dodgems without lap bars... ...I hope.
  4. Nope, you can still access Detonator by going round the arcade and through Nemesis. The whole Dodgems metal structure is now complete.
  5. It only closes because of rain when the rain has actually caused a problem to the ride. It doesn't just close *because* it's raining.Source: Today, Friday, Easter Monday, Easter Sunday, every other bloody day it's rained...
  6. They pretty much take The Asylum down on the inside every year... most likely outcome is that it returns in basically the same/very similar format but with a different name.

    Slammer

For some strange reason I feel like I've read something like this before. It hasn't got a problem with H&S. But with opening a new ride each season, it first has to be tested by engineering, then checked by the external companies, then finally handed to the rides department for new training purposes. Considering how much of the ride system will have been changed with the prolonged downtime, that of course amounts to a lot of testing with each department. I believe it's in the latter stages though...

    Slammer

    It's been testing all week?
  9. *more elaborately worded post* I think this is being thought into way too much. What probably happened is someone designed some cool artwork, the media team liked it and so put it on facebook to keep awareness up on that particular day. I hardly think it represents their entire marketing direction. I don't think putting some random boats in the lake would raise awareness about water rides, it would probably just look out of place on that particular design. They're doing plenty more marketing towards the non-thrill section of the park so I doubt get how one picture would confuse the matter? They have all these big rides and a great setting, why not keep showing them off?
  10. The staff levels for the day were set for a normal very quiet Wednesday. And then it wasn't a normal very quiet Wednesday...
  11. I do agree. The problem is, we want Thorpe Park to be striving to be as world-class as the parks Merlin think they're competing with. Unfortunately Merlin don't give them the same world-class budget the others do, and that's where pretty much all problems are sourced from. It's hardly anything to do with my mentality.
  12. Weird, fire was working whenever I was there (although that wasn't too long). Although let's not let this descend into constant 'what effects were working today and for how long'. I agree regarding the backwards queue. I find it works fine when everyone queues up in the same queue and then the back row queue simply operates in the same the front row queue ones do at Stealth/Colossus/Nemesis.
  13. I was referring to this season.
  14. I can understand that. But when Swarm first opened I'm pretty sure the majority of members were all 'OH OF COURSE IT'S THORPE SO ALL THE EFFECTS WILL NEVER WORK PAST SEASON ONE'. Well, it's now season three and the fire has worked every single day, except Sunday apparently, and over the last three days every effect has been fixed and is working well. Yet people seem to forget how these were things which were apparently meant to have broken forever years ago, and would rather say 'omg this one day this one effect wasn't working'. As for staff, yet again, there are completely new teams in the rides department this year so 70/80% of staff working on the ride have never worked on it before, with new people being trained on it pretty much every day. When you're relying on 4 platformers being efficient, it usually means this time of year there will always be at least one or two weaker links and it's always like that for the first few weeks (not days). The ride itself I think is behaving like classic B&M and actually improving with age, it's really been flying this year compared to when it opened but with still a nice amount of 'hang-time'. I much prefer forwards too and hate the way the backwards system operates but a lot of people do really like it backwards, so...
  15. For someone with 'Total Rides on THE SWARM: 131' in their signature you don't seem to like it very much.
  16. The second train isn't ready because it required major work blah blah nothing that can be done about it etc... It's actually quite amazing Colossus was opened on time at all this season.
  17. All effects are currently working, the water sprays are actually getting people properly wet too!
  18. Their PR machine would only say what knowledge is available to them at the time, which evidently was that Slammer should have been open by now. Surely using your better judgement would be better here, and with the knowledge Slammer has been closed every day this year why would you expect it to be open? As for staff, lots of weekenders will have been having their first days at work yesterday and today and whoever worked last weekend will still be getting trained on new rides and learning completely new skills. There's only so much they can do...
  19. The ones on Swarm and Saw are used to check a seat is in the minimum closed position allowed to dispatch the train/car. Who said that staff don't use them? When it comes to slightly larger guests the lights are very useful in speeding up dispatches.
  20. Lots of rides already have LED systems on them (The Swarm, Saw - The Ride, Flying Fish etc.) but that doesn't mean manual restraint checking will be going away any time soon. Better to have a staff member check bars than have the general public sitting on their restraints instead of in them or have fanboys be trusted to push the boundaries of what an acceptable locked bar position is. (As a side note my restraint was always checked on Silver Star and I believe I last went at the same time as you Benin? I even had a staff member have a go at me when he thought I was slouching too far forward in my seat on purpose)

    Restraints

It was always technically a rule, just one that this year seems to be being enforced more strictly on all rides.
  22. Except no, they don't take them down and send them back to the manufacturer every year, it received *special treatment* (ooh!) this year and there is only so much that they can do with it. Fairground flat rides don't last forever. I'm not saying it's acceptable to have all the flat rides be giving second-rate experiences compared to what they used to achieve, but don't act like they didn't bother. Who knows, maybe the engineers can play with it for a bit and it'll improve it again, these have been the first few days for it with full riders.
  23. Erm, they took it down, sent it back to the manufacturer who dealt with it and completely rebuilt it again. I think you can safely call that taking 'a look' at how it operates...
  24. "@PortAventura_UK: PortAventura will host in 2016 'Ferrari Land': the first theme park of @InsideFerrari in Europe!" http://t.co/HZrQTdh3tM Featuring new hotel and the highest and fastest launch coaster in Europe... aka 'we know Baco is a bit rubbish'
