After sending a an email to Thorpe asking a few questions one of the answers was that bush bbq is to be used as an event space for the year; assuming this is for TWD stuff. O
Always thought calling it a BBQ was a bit cheeky as most stuff was just baked in an oven - saw some pretty gross, grey looking curled up burgers on trays last year.
It appears the Pulled Meat Co. and Peckish have both disappeared too. Shame to have a reduced selection of food available - I miss Roast & Relish! Would also like to see a Smokehouse (as at Chessington) or a rotisserie type place.

Annual pass building is being refurbished;
I really do wonder why they don't just replace it, it smells of damp inside and is visibly wonky.

Just a heads up that British Airways have some cheap off-season deals for PortAventura at the moment: flights from Heathrow to Barcelona including luggage, and 3 nights half board at the Hotel PortAventura with park access and 1 day Ferrari Land ticket for £245 based on 2 sharing or £229 based on 4, departing 1 October. Adding a day adds about £60.
I've managed to book so that I fly out to Barcelona on the Friday before and stay 3 nights before heading to PortAventura for 3 nights there, total cost £385 per person (plus €8.80 train fare to get from Barcelona to PortAventura, and €16 coach from PortAventura to Barcelona airport).

With those modifications they'll actually have to bother parking the boats like at Alton Towers rather than expecting people to climb over the seat backs!

miMiss Hippo and a single car from Slippery Serpent were present inside The Big Top last year, I believe in the jack in the box scene
Last year whilst in the queue for Big Top I was telling a friend how freakishly terrifying Miss Frog was so it was hilarious to see her in the maze!

The group in the video seem really annoying! Wouldn't want a room next to those guys. And what's with the matching caps?

I'm wondering if perhaps the increased staffing costs had anything to do with its early closure this season. With the number of lifeguards on that ride, the staffing costs must have increased considerably, and I can see Merlin not wanting to continue to run the ride with such high costs as it isn't one of their flagship rides.
I wonder why Rumba Rapids seems to have so many staff around it when the much longer Congo River Rapids at Alton Towers doesn't?

Details details...!
Are the queue line TV's working again does anyone know? Be a shame for all that production of a rolling news channel - which was genuinely impressive - go to waste.
They were working when I visited the weekend before last.

Why is it in an American accent?

One day the internet will stop circulating the same wrong-pitched bad quality cassette recording of the BW music
It's only been in circulation since I uploaded it in 2002!

The queue line is the same interior clue where you walk past the souk windows today. The steps up to the operator console are the same, but are now behind a wall so it feels different. It was very clever how they turned that open plan, cattle pen space into its own themed walkthrough - which in the Terror Tomb days was brilliant and atmospheric (today it is awful, flooded with white LED light and pants).
I've now got this picture in my head of the queue line absolutely flooded with pants...

He moves quite badly to how he was designed and sticking the station theme outside on cheap speakers, with a tinny downloaded transfer of the music, sounds so tack and un-atmospheric, robbing it of any interest. You get far better sound design / setup at your average temporary scare maze, let alone a permanent queue at a high-priced theme park.
The music doesn't even loop anymore, it has a gap every minute like 2006 Bubbleworks all over again (which would be so easy to fix). By the time you reach the station, you've heard it over and over.
Remove the theme music from the queueline speakers Chessington. If you understand anything about themed audio, why was it not instinctive to create a basic ambient track for use outside? A quality ambient track could be knocked up using a professional royalty free sound library in 15 minutes, if you have some understanding, ability and imagination. Terrible standards at this park.
I seem to remember the audio around the queue line/entrance area was originally a selections of screams, grunting, sinister laughing, chains and various flogging noises?

Thorpe used to have 2 cafe neros, one near inferno and one in the dome
The one near inferno was originally a Costa. For one season you had Costa here and Nero in the Dome - unusual to have two competing brands in the same park!

I'm not sure if this has already discussed on here, but the Coffee Shack in the Dome is going to start selling Costa Coffee and their food. I think it will be nice to get a cup before I leave.
I wonder if you will be able to get MAP discount here?
Sounds like they'll just be selling Costa coffee instead of whatever they were selling before, rather than going all-out Costa. I seem to remember Alton Towers doing this for a while. I can remember when the Mexican place near Nemesis Inferno was a Costa (which later became Caffe Nero) and for a time it coexisted with the Caffe Nero in the dome.

Great clip.
Staff paid £2.20 ph, entrance £8.25! How times change! And if their prices had risen with inflation the entrance price should now be just over £20, not £50
Strange seeing buccaneer with no Vampire behind it.
You could say that in a way, the admission price still is just over £20 given only a complete moron would pay full gate price. I suspect back in 1990, splashing two for one vouchers everywhere as marketing wasn't really a thing, and prices have been inflated to take these into account.

I'm sure the water has always been a closed filtered system. It certainly was dyed green/turquoise originally as I have pictures of its opening day where the water is practically glowing blue! And heard from someone the reason it stopped being used was because it ruined the filters after some years, but not sure how accurate that is.
It was closed in so far as it wasn't part of a body of water like Loggers Leap and Rumba Rapids at Thorpe Park, but the filtration system definitely wasn't there. You can see the filtration system to the left of the small drop near the start (Bing Maps birds eye view shows this best). I remember ever since this was installed the ride has had clear, chlorine-smelling water. Before then it was murky and lacked the chlorine smell, and the area contained derelict portacabins..

Anyone else think that the fake burning smell in the station smells/tastes a bit like blackcurrant throat sweets?
