  1. Some superfan conveniently forgetting that Inferno failed multiple times today?

Nothing to see I'm afraid. It looks fine, but it's not.

    Samurai

I heard rarely somewhere along the grapevine...
  4. It looked pathetic. I'm glad I was too fat in the end and had to do the walk of shame (I wasn't too fat, my light was green, but it wouldn't start and they didn't know why so they wanted to push it down more which I think would have stopped me breathing! So I got off instead, before the person who was actually too big got off as well. I digress). It was barely getting to 90 degrees. we noticed it got markedly higher on one side than the other, suggesting it is only powering one way with gravity alone doing all the work to get it back up the other side. That could explain its general crapness.

The new music today was mostly Greyhound ... And sounded pretty good too. Heard it on the radio on the way home as well, which made me smile. As for the lights there are some improvements, with a rather effective tunnel created by one of the lasers and the lights moved to the outer edge of the ride rather than being stacked in the middle, so they feel like they belong to certain sections. A couple seem to be positioned too confuse, making it feel like the track goes one way when it actually goes the other. Overall though, nearly everything of what I thought last year still stands. With the way they are now positioned if the lights were triggered as the train passed only it could be great, but as it is it is far far too light in there with everything on all the time. In fact, with them separately there seemed to be no time they were all off, when they were on the tower the whole lot would turn off together sometimes. So maybe it is actually worse?!

    Slammer

Just yesterday... http://forum.maniahub.com/topic/10537-how-is-slammer/ So I'm hoping they've just forgotten about the sign!
  8. http://tompride.wordpress.com/2014/03/13/uk-pay-rises-nurses-1-mps-11-bankers-35/ Outrageous. You can tell the police are not allowed to go on strike, no one else would stand for what has been done.
  9. That is how they manage Samurai, but as Vortex is largely gravity based (ie you can't slow down the downward movement, and the bottom of the swing is the point of highest stress) it isn't really possible unless they drastically reduce the swing height. I wouldn't want them to do that.
  10. I did expect the Ministry nights to be done on the cheap and be poor quality, but I was impressed with what they did. The effort they put into transforming the dome makes it feel like it belongs there, not like the temporary set up that it is. I was also impressed with the people it attracted, agreeing that the image Thorpe seemed to want to put out of themselves as trashy I thought the people coming would reflect that, but they didn't. I can totally understand that if clubbing isn't your thing Ministry nights would seem of little value to you, and by its nature it can't really be that 'wholesome or adventurous', but it is the way they have been done that gives me hope for what they can do entertainment wise. I think it would be fair to say a club night is one of the simpler things to pull off, compared to full blown concerts for example, but what they have done with them is far beyond the minimum they could get away with. It is a little sad that that surprised me, but a 'doing the minimum' attitude is exactly what I see throughout the Merlin parks much of the time. If they attack something on a larger scale with the same thought and detail Thorpe as a legitimate venue could grow into something really special.

    Park Map

This is possibly one of the finest things ever written. Carry on.
  12. They all very much skirt around the mainstream anyway, so it doesn't make too much difference. As for the drinking, I'd find it a pain to go elsewhere and obviously not be able to drive back. You get kicked out the park at standard hours closing and let back in for the club night when that opens. Although I'm sure it is strictly not allowed, if you are in a decent group having a few drinks and snacks back at the car with a few tunes on the radio can be a nice way to while away the hour or so and have a little warm up. There are quite strict security checks on the way in and I'm sure you'd get turned away if you've managed to get properly pissed before hand! The complete line up will not be announced until the day as far as I know, as it depends on technical problems etc so things get substituted. The only thing I think you can completely rely on are the coasters, consider anything else as a bonus.
  13. Hi char, It is amazing, you'll have a great night. Here's a bit of a review of mine from last year, which concentrates on the music but gives an idea of the night. There are a few other reviews in the blogs and on the forums so take a look around. -We stayed in one of the outer Heathrow hotels, Peaj will be able to remember which one. A taxi wasn't much between the five of us. -Last year all the major coasters (and X) were open with some other random rides on occasion. We had Rush and Tidal Wave but know the support ride line up changed throughout the season, sometimes with only the coasters open I think. There were never any queues. -Drinks wen't cheap, but not extortionate either. About £4 each I think which is the same as during the day. There's a bit of a scrum for the bar when the club first opens but after about 45 minutes it runs smoothly. I recommend picking up a couple of drinks from the bars across the park just before the club opens to avoid the bundle. Have a great time!
  14. As Benin pointed out in the map topic, both the cinema and dodgems have fastrack. The cinema, whatever. But the dodgems, with fastrack? Hell on earth. What are they thinking?

    Park Map

Thanks for the full size. Seeing the details it is even worse than I first though! So, at a glance.. Wild wings noodle bar is half way up Colossus lift hill? X is yellow? There isn't a bloody great boat in the water as a handy point of reference? Quantum exists in the imagination only? Colossus cobra roll encircles zodiac? The inaccessible 'Thrills Workshop' deserves more map space than many rides and about the same as the new hotel? The amount of dead space, when there is so much detail lacking in the main image because of it, is just crazy. Those are just from the little bit of screen shot that first came up. I know it is not supposed to be a scale representation of the park, but this is so badly done it is laughable. I don't think it succeeds in any regard.
  17. I couldn't agree less. I am basing this mostly on the Ministry nights, but they show Thorpe really can entertain, it can be more than just a theme park and it can do extra things with style when they are given the resources. If they could put the same thought and effort into some sort of concert, most likely in the arena or maybe on the beach, as they have the club it could be excellent. I agree these things shouldn't encroach on the themes while the rides are open though, The Noise should be for the dome and only the dome. Let the ride areas live with the atmosphere they are supposed to.
  18. In contrast to what Thorpe have done I like that a lot. It is still a bit geographically suspect for my liking in a park that is so spread out and challenging to new visitors, but it is a lot clearer. The hotels take up a much more reasonable portion while still being prominent, CBeebies Land is nicely promoted, and the areas keep their character while the whole thing carries a coherent style. Nicely done.

    Park Map

As a map to navigate anywhere it is useless. The geography of it is nonsense. As a guide to what the rides are it is useless. The options from the visuals are just 'coaster' or 'not coaster'. As a representation of the themes of the rides it is useless. They all look the same. Bland. As a promotion of the park as a resort it is useless. The hotel doesn't get a look in. As a promotion of the parks new investment it is useless. You can't tell there are any lands, let alone a new one which barely registers. As a representation of the parks current identity it is useless. The rides look massive, at a glance you wouldn't know there was anything there for anyone other than thrill seekers. That map is utterly useless. I'm not a fan! Is there a chance this is just the app version and a decent one will be printed?

  25. That is your filthy adult mind piecing that together! To a child it might play slightly wildly in their head but they would make it fit something they are comfortable with, and then enter that dark tunnel with the expectant fear I did so many times.
