    Music

My mate Paul is the singer in this bandhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHJOghkc_swI love it, and not just because he's a friend of mine, It's just my sort of thing. But you lot seem to like heavy stuff or GaGa, so I might be on my own with electro here!
  2. I went a couple of years back and there was a promotion running with some drink, coke I think or maybe a beer comany, where you got BOGOF tickets when you bought a couple of drinks from various bars. Not sure if that is a regular promotion that might be running at the mo in the area.
  3. They generally pick on the people they get a reaction from. You sound like you could react quite a bit, so good luck!!!Remember, they look a bit freaky but it's all just a bit of fun so laugh at it, you'll be fine!

    Thunder Looper

I lost my loop virginity to this beauty. Was always the best when the fog was hanging low, disappearing into the cloud was a real thrill. No OTSR, an amazing launch when launching was unheard of. It was perfection in its time, but I doubt it would have aged well had it remained.Found its twin sister in Knotts Berry Farm last year, and rode it with a tear of nostalgia in my eye.
  5. Agree with all the above. I think a big part of the problem has been what the Merlin parks have been run for in the past - how they want to make their money. The Disney/Universal way seems to be to invest to make a profit in the long term - they are looking way in to the future to get returns on investments and do this by building reputation and a desire to build brand loyalty leading to repeat visitors. The Tussards was always run for immediate gain by a short term thinking investment group, they wanted immediate profit and a high turnover for maximum profit when they offloaded to Merlin. This was done by investing as little as possible while increasing visitor numbers with heavy and gimmicky promotion - who cares if people are 'tricked' into attending and think it is crap, we've already got the punters money and don't care if they don't come back because we plan to sell up.The new owners appear to be in it for the long haul, so I'm optimistic it'll get a whole lot better - they will care that people want to come back. They've got a hell of a lot of turning around to do though, to change the whole direction and mindset of the company which is being run by a lot of the same people is going to be hard and take time.
  6. This sort of thing makes me want to hate the American way, how stupid. The name is not even that close, how many street names in the Orlando area end in 'walk'? Have they all got to change too? But maybe it is a good opportunity to change it? I think I-walk is an awful name, it just sounds wrong.
  7. You think I'd learn. But no, I leave my house with optimism every time.
  8. East Anglia. All aproaches to Liverpool Street today are, it seems, shut. BOOOO.
  9. Quite a few seem to have met John Terry, I too have that 'honour'. Quite a few years ago I made him move his car when he parked right outside the doors of the supermarket I used to manage, apparently if you are a multi millionaire footballer you don't have to park in the bays like everyone else. It was on the same day the news of the world had splashed one of his dirty little secrets across it's front page so he was mighty pissed off already and I only made it worse, which made me smile.
  10. If I wanted a bus, I would have gone to the bus stop. I am at the train station, so send me a bloody train. 2rs for a 45 min journey to London. I hardly ever use the trains but when I do it's always the same - useless.
  11. I remember that, I remeber it being cheesy as hell but I liked it. Am I right in thinking it was done live, not from tape, and 'broadcast' from somewhere near teacups where there was a window that requests and birthday shouts etc could be made to the dj? Or have I invented that?
  12. I'm kind of new to posting here, although I have been reading for a loooong time (and still do read a lot more than I post).I've not had anyone be rude to me in any way, quite the opposite in fact. But I do see quite a bit of nastiness, bitching and childishness between older members (there are two regular posters who I do not think I have ever seen make a constructive comment), which has dissuaded me from joining in on a number of occasions. Most of the time when I've seen new members shot down it's been well deserved, but occasionally could be done a bit more constructively I guess.
  13. You are well within the limits and should fit on everything, but I advise you take a deep breath before you lock the Colossus restraints as you won't be able to breath in properly for about 3 minutes! (well I can't anyway, I find it very restrictive. I have a large chest though). The coasters have a test seat at the start of the q line to try just in case.
  14. A good few clips from it here...http://www.videolicca.com/ioa%20behind%20the%20scenesI would love to see the whole thing if anyone does find it online.
  15. I'm straight, which is why I've married a girly girl.On a side note, I have no gaydar. I never have a clue until I'm told.

    The Smiler

......the ride would be “the only one of its’ kind in the world”......I know something there are no longer any of in the world.........a looping woodie! I've said it before and I'll say it again - give me wood!!!!!Doubt it'll happen though.
  18. Maybe not for free - just for a couple of entry tickets!!I'd really be up for this too, a couple of days, a couple of weeks before opening. As long as there was a proper employee/manager supervising each area (to stop us doing anything stupid) I can't see a problem with it. Do thorpe park still read this? If so - get in touch!!In the mean time would someone please pick up the rotting 'source of the current' sign laying on the floor, upside down, at the tunnel entrance before I get out of my boat and do it myself. Thanks.
  19. It's certainly not the best example of the type but theres nothing really wrong with the actual ride, I'd guess it'll be there practicaly forever as it'd cost a fortune to turn it into something special and remains a high throughput crowed puller. I like it.However, the state it's in is just not acceptable and needs addresing. I'm not even talking about spending any money - give me a day and a pressure washer and I'd have it looking about 30% better. Look at the outside facing of the queue line where you wait to get up the lift hill, the entrance and content of the tunnel. It's just filthy and unloved. Why has no one done this?Give me (or anyone) another day and a couple of hundred quid to spend in ikea and it could be hugely better. Would it be so hard to do something like put up some netting with some funky lighs behind to cover the old advertising / theming and stop it looking like a derelict dump? Why has no one done this? What have the few people who work there all year been doing for the last 4 months? I guess they were too busy for this, spending their time fixing the broken hand dryers, broken soap dispensers, replacing the blown lightbulbs in inferno station, dusting inferno station, servicing samurai, making storm surge water tight and look good, fixing the effects on x/saw/Colossus. Oh.
  20. I can't believe Thorpe would not have been insured for an event as catastropic as this, if so why did'nt they get another one built for free? A simplistic view maybe but thats what would happen with my house. As for the cause, I'm sure at the time I remeber it being put down to an electrical fault, not a smoker. Anyone able to confrim?
  21. As a long time lurker I'd say this is the most useful topic if it's kept up to date, I know it's what I'm alwys looking at the weeks before a visit and is a whole lot easier than trawling through the ride topics to see where the problems are.Anyway, I went the day before yesterday. The only closed ride was samurai which was mating with it's little blue crane all day (as usual. How those two haven't had little mechanical babies yet is beyond me). I didn't see anything else down all day, except for stealth opening a couple of hours late. So not too bad at the mo.
  22. Hi all. I'm Pete,Most of you lot make me feel real old, as I'm 31.
