  1. I seem to remember someone in the 'Questions to Thorpe Park' board asking if there were plans to use the resort tagline but Thorpe seemed to imply that as Snoozebox is only a temporary solution, they have no intimidate plans to brand the park as a resort. Maybe when the new permanent hotel finally arrives?
  2. What a change from the old adverts, and a nice change at that! I will have to say, I am going to miss the voice over guy who has done alot of the recent adverts.
  3. I have never been to one of these events before, mainly due to nerves, but have wanted to for some time. Ideally I would love to go as I have never actually been to Alton Towers. Unfortunately I have no way of getting there (trains are to expensive at that distance) and being 17 means booking overnight accommodation could be a struggle. I guess there is always next year. Have fun everyone!
  4. Pretty downed about this news considering I was planning on visiting the Hastings park just for the Topscan in the coming months. I really want to see how it compares to the likes of Samurai.

    Logger's Leap

Ideally what they need to do is give Canada Creek a proper facelift including Loggers Leap which is slowly becoming a shadow of its former self. Will it happen? Probably not, but nothing wrong with being a little optimistic is there?
  6. I would rather them use the coming years to spruce up older attractions and maybe install some new family/medium sized rides than install another coaster. We already have five. There is hardly a rush for a new one.
  7. In 2010 I considered this to be the strongest Merlin park...what happened?

    The Smiler

I actually really like the new Smiler rooms. I admit they may be a bit too much for kids, especially if they get freaked out by the MOJ face but for anyone aged 11+, I can see them loving it there. Bit disorientating but I wouldn't be upset if I had to sleep there for a night or two. Having reviewed the pictures, the fake cameras all pointing at the bed are slightly unnerving.
  9. I don't think it fits well with any of the Merlin properties. In my opinion it has always been more suited to parks like Lightwater Valley, Flamingoland etc. The closest Merlin park I could see it working at is Legoland and that is unlikely as they only removed their last coaster a few years back due to noise and I don't know if the ride is too intense for a park like Lego. (I have never ridden Spinball so can hardly judge)
  10. I never said the Margate Scenic Railway wasn't made of wood, I said it isn't called a wooden coaster like say, the Big Dipper at Blackpool is. It is one of eight remaining Scenic Railway coasters in the world, unique with brakeman. It is also more commonly referred to as a side friction coaster, but this is untrue.
  11. If my memory serves my correct, the Scenic Railway in Dreamland Margate isn't even considered a wooden rollercoaster. I can't remember exactly what defines the ride but I remember reading up on it a year or two ago. Maybe something to do with the fact it has a brakeman or uses a trough as apposed to rails to travel. The UK desperately needs a new generation woodie. We have the classics at Blackpool, Yarmouth, Margate etc but when it comes to the new GCI generation, I am fairly sure the closest ride we have is Megafobia at Oakwood.
  12. I usually don't take much notice of the Thorpe Park facebook page but the moment I saw the mention of wood, I knew people would be talking about it here. While their page does support a range of theme park related topics and posts (For example there was one regarding Roller coaster Tycoon not so long ago), I couldn't help wonder whether or not that post was Thorpe's attempt at finding out peoples perception of wooden rollercoasters; a bit like market research. Regardless of what it meant, I would fully support the installation of a woodie at Thorpe. They really do seem to be changing for the better and a wooden coaster really would be the icing on the cake..
  13. While there has currently been more talk than action, I for one am both relieved and impressed by Thorpe's choice to change things up a bit. Talks of refurbishing older rides, more theming, a wider appeal for families, a new map on the way, adverts that feature more than just their signature ride. I really hope they can pull this off. A new era for Thorpe Park perhaps? I do hope so.

    Wicker Man

For me, the best Merlin flume goes to the Pirate Falls at Legoland. Slightly biased view considering I grew up with it but still. If any UK park are going to bring back the woodie, I think it deserves to be Alton. Unfortunately, my gut instinct tells me it will be another steel.

    The Smiler

As someone who has never ridden Nemesis, it will be interesting to ride and compare the two experiences next time I am at Towers. Looks impressive. It does seem rough around places but I guess only time will tell if that's true or not.
  16. Loving that Scenic Railway from the earlier update. Haven't been on one of those beauties in years. Despite its age, it is great to see it still working to its original design. Anyway, great updates. I have heard very little about this park in the past. Ps: Another Eurovision fan I see.

    Legoland

What I want to know is what have they done with the goat in the hammock listening to his Walkman. That was one of the best bits! Also the sounds effects from Aladdin's Cave have gone which is somewhat disappointing. Still, it is great to see such an old attraction receive some love. It is now now clean, fresh and awaiting the next generation of children.

    The Smiler

Not my favourite advert. After the recent one from the Swarm, I was expecting something a little more original and different. Never mind, does the job.

    Legoland

For those new to Legoland and the Fairy Tale Brook, I think the changes will be well welcomed. However, for someone who has grown up with the ride like me, I feel slightly saddened by this new version. I am thrilled to see so much attention given to the ride but what with the lack of original music etc, and the oddly placed models, it is just doesn't cut the cake for me. Shame. EDIT: The effects on the other hand, top notch!

    The Smiler

Regardless of whether it opens by the May deadline or after, I think I may postpone my visit till next year. At least then I know everything should be complete and settled in. Wouldn't want to go and see a rushed, half completed job
  21. Rameses Revenge is a family ride?... Guess I have been riding it wrong for years.
  22. Regardless of age, it would be a big loss if it were removed. It is a major ride at Chessington and is perhaps one of the only major thrill rides there since the departure of Samurai. Besides, the likelihood is, if it were demolished the chances are it wouldn't be replaced in a hurry or simply left SBNO. It would be more beneficial to keep it running until a worthy replacement is confirmed.

    X

I expected it to be done and dusted, but glad to hear they are still throwing things at it. Can't imagine it will be anything breathtaking but every little helps I guess. Good for them.
  24. Anything that isn't a devastation or secret government, (SW7) type theme will suit me fine. What with Saw and the Swarm, I'am hoping Thorpe will look into something new and more adventurous. Brighten up the park a bit, you know. In terms of the coaster itself. A woodie would be ideal for me, though I'am not quite sure how likely that is to appear. They can be a real nuisance to maintain.
  25. Having never experienced them before, I loved the mist effects. Was a real treat for me when I rode it earlier this week. Personally the one thing I have always thought Inferno lacks is those heater effects. If I'am not mistaken there are some in the Legoland Dragon ride just before the coaster goes outside. Considering Inferno is about a volcano and its heat etc, I'am surprised the park never chose to install them. Having said that, I don't know where they would go. There isn't exactly a "darkride" element to Inferno like there is on the Dragon Coaster.
