  1. 100%. Although Now... that's what I call music? NTWICM 111 is the latest album. NHS 111 the ride confirmed.
  2. No I agree @planenut! I know what you mean. It's weirdly peaceful up there isn't it! 🥴 What a shame it's on the way out - it's such a huge ride, both physically in the park and 'iconically' (yeah whatever) in the UK. It's 22 years old now though isn't it, and is fast becoming 'the odd-one-out' at DM. It's falling in to disrepair and looks very tatty now compared to the new shiny areas they're putting in. As for what's next, Apocalypse itself doesn't take up much space (being a drop-tower), but clearing this, along with the large tarmac area in front, as well as the neighbouring unused footprint of Pandemonium and Test Track - that's a large space available. Here's hoping for a nice coaster on this site. Something Wickermanny / Th13teeny! - - EDIT: I don't think I quite realised until now how major the Drayton turnaround actually is. The new areas look really good, and they clearly have big plans for the place. The future is looking good!
  3. POV looks good! 'Sik' though? How strange. Is this one of those Merlin-style weird marketing stunts from 15 years ago, to get people talking?
  4. That's a really nice summary, glad it all worked 'technically' at least, even if the experience is messy as ever. Sadly it's not reflective of a 'standard' run-through 😂 I think the number of comments and confusion about weather or not the footage cuts out, and the surprise/acknowledgement at the number of working headsets available says it all about the attraction. It's a mess. Riders shouldn't be noticing this. It shouldn't be the go-to comment in a review. An attraction like this should be somewhat seamless. Completely agree with the comments on the hanging carriage. It's easy to forget that both the actual ride vehicles and suspended carriage are incredible. I remember first riding this when it opened, and how "wow" the suspended carriage and tube train interior was. It really does feel like you're sat on the tube, and the underground station is genuinely BRILLIANT. I think that "The tube" element - train and station - is by far the most immersive and detailed theming Thorpe (maybe Merlin?) have ever acheived. It's SO well done. It all falls down though because those things simply fade in to the background because the poor technology and chaotic story come to the forefront. We only get a glimpse at those incredible set pieces as we rush past them. There's no opportunity to properly take them in. Most of the DBGT experience is spent in an unthemed, narrow corridor, or with a terrible VR headset in front of our eyes. A waste and a shame.
  5. Love this! Inferno takes it for me - years ago (pre-saw) on a quiet day towards the end of the day we’d often head to Inferno and just stay on the train for as long as we could (as long as nobody was in the air gates, we’d be allowed to stay seated!) I have no idea what my record would have been, but it was something ridiculous 😂 Good times and great memories. Do they still allow that at Thorpe? ———— On a side note this has really pulled on my heart strings. I spent hours doing this with a friend who lost his life a few years ago. Thank you for posting this and letting my re-live such happy memories I’d forgotten I had 😊 Weird how such specific things bring the memories flooding back isn’t it.
  6. I agree. Doing small things like improving the food offerings, getting all the rides open, and improving the appearance of things by refreshing the monorail and deep cleaning or painting shabby things (like the entire Smiler) would make a big difference. Losing Nemesis is going to be a blow to the park in its current state.
  7. What? I must have gone to a different event. The Fright Nights 21 visit I had was the worst theme park visit I've ever had. Fair enough. The set & design was fab. Our run-through was awful though. Again, I must have gone through a different scare zone. 🤷🏼‍♂️ --- Congratulations to them for the awards, clearly a lot of hard work went in to creating the event, and as always the actors were incredible and working bloody hard. But based on my visit and my personal experience on the night, the park don't even deserve the wooden spoon. I think it was down to difficulties recruiting staff etc, but even so it's interesting to see how much guest experiences can differ from each other with scare events. It's promising to hear that many thought it was worthy of these awards though. Hopefully consistency is worked on going forward.
  8. I had no idea the waterpark and golf had pretty much the same opening hours as the park. What is the thinking behind that I wonder? The waterpark used to be busy in the evenings as far as I remember? (it's been ages since I stated there)
  9. That's a bit of a shame. I think honestly the Festival of Thrills has flopped. The acts are very good, but it was the same when I was there - nobody was attracted to the stages, and the park was worryingly quiet. It feels to me like they were expecting huge numbers now that Covid seems to be 'over', but nobody showed up. I've noticed the weirdly enormous number of staff this season too. I assumed it's down to the attendance not meeting their expectations, which is desperately sad really considering they've put on all these staff (if that's what the reason is). Could they also be 'displaced' staff from Hex and Enterprise? Last season I felt that Towers was in bad shape, but this year with more rides closed and no real improvements, it's starting to feel again like it did when they re-opened shortly after the Smiler's crash.. Still a good day out, but feels empty and a shadow of its former self Looking ahead, in the sort term at least it's a bit worrying that Nemesis will be closing soon for its refurb. As for this season, hopefully crowd levels pick up and they get (and keep) all their rides open - Towers is one of those places that does well when it's a little busier to make it feel alive. The summer season is almost here too, so that should be a boost for them.

Oh! I think the actual pre-show is pretty good! I've always enjoyed it, and it definitely adds a bit of drama to the experience. Honestly I missed the pre-show during Covid and I'm glad to have it back. I agree though, they really didn't give much thought to the design of it all did they. That post in the middle of the exit doorway, and the automatic doors that close on people seemingly every time seem dangerous to me tbh, and I'm surprised they are still there after all these years. That should have been a week 1 "whoops-and-fix" surely? Ideally the bag drop and pre-show needed to be 20 meters 'earlier' in the queue to provide a little more time to organise it all. Being earlier in the queue would also remove the urgency to start the show that always seems to exist - it's always a mad rush to get everyone's bags stored and in to the show on time, otherwise there's nobody waiting to board the train. Stupid design! I'm surprised the pre-show has lasted as long as it has. I thought it would be a one season wonder tbh, or at least given the axe "because of covid" - Merlin don't tend to go in for things like these pre-shows long term do they.
  11. Loving these! Glad you're having a good time! Looks like you've had some great weather for it
  12. Wow, it sounds worse than ever. What a mess Thank you for sharing guys - I don't think I was planning on ever 'riding' this again tbh, but now I'll definitely give it a miss. It's been 6 years since this opened now. Surely that's long enough for the park to give it a go now, before getting rid? The whole thing needs bulldozing. In my opinion the park was better off with the unused Arena - it was less disappointing.
  13. 😂 Love this! That dream sounds like a rollercoaster of emotions on its own! Mark9's train parking issues are more of a nightmare than a dream as well tbh. I did have an odd one a few months back - there was a long wooden coaster that opened in Central London, think along the lines of The Ultimate... I joined the queue, and it was extremely busy. The queue was sort of a lot of wooden stairs going up, a bit like Depth Charge.. But a bit more grungy, like Shockwave used to be. I nearly reached the top of the queue, and unfortunately hit my head on a wooden beam, which caused me to wake up 🙄 I never did get to ride the London Woody! Hope you have a great time at Europa Park!
  14. Great post Josh! Love it. So glad you managed to get there on a quiet day and the storm didn't ruin it! Colossus looks absolutely brilliant.
  15. Merlin-bashing aside.... Does anyone actually know why this might be the case? Could this genuinely be down to deliberately lowering the capacity to make Fastrack more appealing over the busy Easter break? Or is it more likely to be late maintenance, which seems to be an ongoing issue still.
  16. sik. It's so odd to think that construction on this finished BEFORE the likes of Texas Stingray and Max&Mortiz opened, and over 6 months before even F.L.Y opened. Those rides feel like old news now. They have really taken their time with this coaster! It can't be much longer, can it?
  17. The Big One valleying yesterday got me thinking about all the faff involved in recovering the trains etc... Which then got me thinking how convenient Stealth is to reset after a rollback. Does anyone know what it takes to reset Stealth after a rollback? I seem to remember years ago it would take 10-15 minutes for the Engineering Team to come over, do a bit of 'reversing' in the station, a few test runs and that was that.. Ride open again. Now adays it seemingly takes an hour or so to get Stealth up and running again after a rollback. Anyone know what it is they need to do to get it 'ridable' again?
  18. At least the Amazon project will bring in a high-capacity multi-train coaster to eat up the queues and improve the situation 🙃 Sarcasm aside though... It does bring 3 new rides I suppose, even if 2 of them are only small junior flats. 3 rides is 3 rides though, and will spread the crowds more, even if just a little. 🤷‍♂️
  19. ..... 11 boats? 😐 ...What? Hopefully just late with maintenance? Not great in the Easter break though is it.
  20. Having seen a few POVs of Enso, I have to say it looks overwhelmingly underwhelming... £15 to rock slowly about 20° to the left or right a couple of times, if you're lucky? Naa I'll pass. I wonder if there's anything they can do to 'loosen it up' a bit so it spins more? 😐
  21. Ooh Computer Science - I did that too! ❤️ I feel your pain 😂 Well… They aren’t wrong about the graduate roles. If you’re looking to go in to a graduate scheme of some sort then a higher grade will definitely get you closer to the door in a lot of places, but the honest truth is that experience is the big thing companies look for, graduate scheme or not, and honestly that’s what gets asked about in interviews. It’s all about the special projects you take on etc. the s/w firm I worked for previously ran a grad scheme, and generally seemed to go for the ones who got involved in making apps / websites and things for local schools or businesses. Good grades are great - but experience is better 😊
  22. Hi @Matt N, I was wondering if you're settling in to Uni a little more now, or if you're still getting used to things? What are you studying? I can completely understand the sudden change from the 'school structure' you get at 6th form in to a more "sort yerself out" kind of situation at uni. I went to College rather than 6th form, which I think set me up really well for Uni, better than 6th form ever could have done. Without doing College however I think I would have found starting Uni similar to you to begin with, and I know that a lot of my friends who came from 6th form felt the same as you. It's A LOT to get used to isn't it, it's all very different to school. I hope it's settled down now though and you're starting to enjoy it? I think if I could give you any advice at all from my experience, it would be to ask the staff for help with things. Be bold, and approach them directly - this is kind of a life hack I've taken with me in to work - just ask and I bet they'll be happy to help! Don't forget, you're paying them for this. If you don't ask, you don't get to remember that you absolutely deserve to be there, and you absolutely deserve to enjoy yourself. You've clearly worked really hard to get your place at Uni, doing the subject you wanted to do. despite what people might tell you while you're there, most employers don't give a damn if you get a 1st. Getting a degree is really hard - which lets face it, is kind of the point! Nobody ever gets 100% on any assignment, that's impossible, just give it your best shot and be proud of what you're achieving! The fact you have been passing your assignments is REALLY good! You're on track to get a degree, that's an amazing achievement! What I'll also say though is this.. Someone I went to Uni with dropped out in the first year, and he now has a collection of incredible cars and runs a web design company employing multiple staff... If you're really not enjoying Uni, if it's not for you, then it's not for you - that's ok! Most of my colleagues at work didn't go to Uni, and here we are in the same position as each other. Ugh.. I've rambled...... Be happy Matt. That's more important than anyone likes to say Look after yourself and do what's right for you, not anyone else.
  23. Apologies for the double post..... One more argument in favour of a "thrill park".. No matter how much a Theme Park invests, realistically they don't change that much, do they? If I look back to my childhood, many of the rides I enjoyed as a kid are still at the parks today. Which is great by the way, but bear with me..... One of the good things about Merlin's 3 park cluster near London is that they keep theme park visits suitable and 'fresh' for many years. For example... You'd take your young kids to Legoland for a few years, and get to know the place, ride everything. That's great. Then as the kids get slightly older, Chessington is just down the road. Again, an entire 'new' park to experience for a few years. After a while the kids will want to go on some bigger rides, well... Thorpe is right there next door, and once again offer's a full park of 'new' attractions to ride. A new park to experience every few years! If for example all 3 parks offered a range of thrill and "family" rides, that would be great too, however might guests feel they're always going back to the same places after a few years? I think it's a really nice way for kids/families to have something different to visit every few years rather than keep going back to the same places. You can't beat that "first time in a park" feeling, and that's what kids get with Merlin's London 3.
  24. I think this is a really interesting point, and I agree. I must admit for a few years I did have the opinion that a "family park" would attract people with more money to spend... I always thought that teens and young adults would spend less, and families more.. But now I've got a little Inferno myself.. I'm not actually sure that's the case. I'd estimate I might actually have less disposable income than ever - even back when I worked part time in Starbucks I had more disposable income, and wouldn't think twice about filling up the car and heading to Thorpe every other week, buying lunch and merch there etc.. When little Inferno (I guess I'm going with this now) is old/tall enough we'll definitely head to the appropriate parks, but I can't see we're going to have the money to buy food and merch there very often. Tickets alone will be a budget-blower to be honest with you, and I imagine many others are in a similar position to me. (I know there will be many families with loads to spend, just from my perspective) Anyway... ahem, TANGENT. I agree - I don't see the issue with having a "thrill park" actually. Yes, having a mixture of attractions (like Towers) will attract a wider audience, but they've proven that targeting 'thrill hunters' works. 2009ish was an unbelievable success for them. I don't think Thorpe's problems are that they don't attract enough families. I think the problems are a) the fact it's a bit of a sh** hole... (the "no drugs, our rides are thrilling enough!" sign above the entrance says it all) b) the lack of investment, meaning the "young people" aren't as compelled to book and travel there like they were when there was a new ride. --- It will be interesting to see what effect the energy crisis and cost of living increases have on this situation actually. I expect the traditionally expensive 'family day out' (Legoland / Chessington / etc) might be affected, meanwhile Thorpe with their new coaster might still attract a lot of teenagers who might still live with parents or shared housing etc.
