  1. Hi I found this advisory guide on the thorpe website for chest size: Saw - The Ride: 51 inches Stealth: 51 inches The Swarm: 51 inches Colossus: 51 inches Nemesis Inferno: 51 inches Quantum: 51 inches Vortex: 51 inches Based on that I would say you will be fine, although I would say that Colossus is probably the most compact of all so I would skip that one for comfort reasons. I'd also check out this review from someone who is a similar size and height to you (20 stone 48 chest).
  2. Trying to work out if trolling or being serious...😅 Last time I went to chessington I found it quite tired looking and whilst great for kids defo a bit dull for an adult lol (wasn't going for my benefit!), but thats fine as its a family park and we need those too. Disney is more of an all rounder. Timber tug/trawler trouble looks like a bigger, rustier version of something you might get outside a supermarket.

  4. I think I managed more than 8 on Ramases revenge a long time ago. Stealth- 8 times I think is my record fairly recently (although I wasn't being that accurate with counting) and at the end of the day they allowed people to re-ride from the exit, partially because the front row queue was still fairly big. Also, a bit different as its a waterpark, but recently at Siam park in one day I did the Kinnaree 10 times and Singha 8, having to go up the stairs is the main obstacle by the end!
  5. I'm also interested in meets resuming! 👍 A summer meet (ideally not in school holidays though if it can be avoided) would be good!
  6. More bad news for the potential new park, they've now withdrawn their application but plan to resubmit one before the end of the year. The main reason is because the area has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and apparently it is home to a critically endangered jumping spider... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-60911483 All seems a bit overkill for what is essentially a mostly brownfield site without much going for it, it seems the resistance it is facing is fairly material.
  7. I saw one of those signs was a google suggested search saying something about retirement age- any idea what that could be related to...? One of the other suggestions on it was Canadian retirement homes but I assume that's not going to be the theme hah! From theme park guide on twitter:
  8. I agree that from that art on that board, something mountain related seems to be jumping out especially with the flag on the 'summit'. I think that could work well and makes sense as a theme with the height of it. but who knows - I do hope they only went with that red and yellow colour scheme to tie in with the BK building because its not really giving me any natural mountain vibes at all, more like the scheme you'd see in a 90s mcdonalds so wouldn't want the new building to have that(!) On swarm, I also saw you me at six are running a competition to ride it with them and they are going to be on the park I think on the 3rd May. I'm also not a huge fan of the posters but I guess some people I've spoken to after visiting the area didn't seem to pick up the alien theme, as the only place you really see it is on the ride vehicle, and even then not everyone notices so I guess they are just trying to make it more obvious.
  9. So I made it to BPB yesterday (despite functioning on 4 hours sleep nursing a bit of a hangover). We were certainly lucky with the weather given the time of year which always helps. This was my first time to BPB so I'm not sure what I expected but one thing I did notice is the theming is, in many parts, pretty pants. My friend noted that a Germanic theme seemed to crop up in various places but other bits of theming we were a tad confused by (e.g. giant silver turtles, a blue horse..) but I guess that makes for a certain charm in a way. Some parts could probably have done with a fresh coat of paint. I do think the ticket price is a bit steep given the big one, grand national and valhalla are closed.! I overheard someone at the entrance was trying to persuade someone to pay the on the day price of £48 by saying they had 30 'rollercoasters' open (perhaps they are confused what that word means(!)) We went on icon, infusion, big dipper, avalanche, revolution, steeplechase, river caves, the ghost train and a few smaller rides here and there e.g. flying machines, derby racer. I can't say I was completely blown away by any of the rides, I did very much enjoy icon, great fun and good airtime but it is extremely smooth and its missing that adrenaline rush you get from other launch coasters, perhaps it was because I was on the back row. My friend's favourite was steeplechase, due to how unusual it is I think. Avalanche surprised me on speed but unfortunately quite short! Infusion is a bit like a weak and uncomfortable version of nemesis inferno, although with some fun parts. On operations, other than steeplechase all the coasters were on one train (icon, infusion, big dipper, avalanche etc.) so although queues were very short you still waited 20+ minutes in some cases. For those interested, one of the gift shops sold a range of parts from valhalla, from wheels and seatbelts to what appeared to be long bits of metal, if that's your thing. Slightly off topic but if you're in the area, the water park is worth a visit, I enjoyed aztec falls, sidewinder and master blaster.
  10. interesting- I assumed its because its the 21st anniversary and 21 is the 'key of the door' birthday, but who knows.
  11. Nothing international planned at the moment but expecting a trip to: Blackpool Pleasure Beach (march) Alton Towers (likely October) Tulleys (October) Thorpe (at some point I'm sure) Also going to sandcastle water park (again on this hen do) if that counts... edit: adding Siam Park to this list
  12. rumba rapids without water? 😅

  15. Interesting- I'll wait until the reviews come in and then book one of trailers or creek freak - when is press night this year? I'm hoping to go on the first sunday. Also, for anyone interested, I got in touch with Thorpe to ask about their covid rules around the mazes. It sounds like masks will be optional, for both guests and for actors, so I assume the majority won't wear them. They said actors will get close but not 'very very' close (whatever that means) so I assume they might try and not get closer than say a meter. They also said actors are testing regularly. Its more than e.g. tulleys are doing (no limits/restrictions, not even asking actors to test regularly), not that this is the place to discuss this but with actors coming into close contact with hundreds of people each day, indoors in many settings, I feel its a recipe for disaster, but there we are!

    2021 Season

On Friday, they'd actually sold out of all advanced fast passes already 1-2 days beforehand, and on the day all one shots had sold out also (except for rumba rapids...) As a result some of the queues felt like they moved at an absolute snails pace - especially Saw where the fast track queue was out the gate and nemesis where it was back to rumba rapids. Went with low expectations, managed swarm, stealth, nemesis, Colossus, black mirror, depth charge and the tea cups and felt that wasn't too bad considering. Of course saw didn't open on time (I don't think it opened until 11ish) so that threw us out a bit at the start plus that queue seems to really struggle at the moment due to a combination of things. I'm hoping the trial at Alton towers of filling in all the rows is a success, so that perhaps they can do the same with some of the rides at Thorpe.

    2021 Season

I would say that even if you got there and inside say by 9.30, having been keeping an eye on the queues for e.g. saw, Colossus and nemesis this/last week (if they managed to open on time) were easily getting to around 45 min+ by 10.30. Yesterday Saw had already managed to hit "90+" minutes by the time it got to 10.25. I'm going on Friday and slightly dreading how mad it'll be to be honest (when I booked I had hoped it wouldn' t be too bad), although its not sold out under 'reduced capacity' as people say I doubt its much different to a typical summer weekday in non-covid times. Setting expectations is important but I'm sure by now people should know its just going to be mad busy for the rest of the summer due to that pent up demand. Not saying thorpe should just shrug their shoulders at that though- definitely should be doing all they can to improve throughput and distancing people on rides is a little silly when they don't enforce distancing in queues and people stand shoulder to shoulder almost.
  18. I guess with the weather being a bit rubbish, more people may have preferred to do an indoor ride/attraction. thank you!
  19. Does anyone happen to have a pic of the QR code to book a timeslot for this please? Can't say I'm really keen to go on it but some people in my group haven't done it before so want to 'experience' (if that's the right word) it lol. Also sad news that @MattyMoo reported the demon scene is out of action again- its a cheap trick but honestly one of the better parts of the whole thing hah. Thanks

    2021 Season

Does anyone know what's wrong with Tidal Wave? Saw some pictures yesterday with it not having any water and I think its been out for a few days now. On a side note I believe tickets for Thorpe are sold out now up until Saturday.
  21. Yeah she was on love island but going back a few years now. I mean I guess the video doesn’t give much away but just looks like a hall of mirrors with a few flashing lights and some other effects hah 😂 let’s see.

    2021 Season

Bit late to the party on this one but I'm a bit annoyed they've got rid of the bag rooms and replaced them with shelves, as I know people who have had belongings stolen from these and certainly in summer its hard to wear something that can store your phone etc. securely. I guess as people are saying its probably all about budget and cutting down staff costs, shame. Can't say there's a huge amount to get excited by from the photos but I'll reserve judgement hah.

    2021 Season

I think an announcement on opening day is imminent- Alton Towers have just announced the reopening of the theme park and 'selected self-contained accomodation' on the 12th April. So I assume thorpe will follow suit!
  24. Couldn’t find a suitable place to put this so I thought I’d make a new thread. If you have any recommendations or links to shows/documentaries on theme parks, post them here! I wanted to recommend the documentary series ‘The Imagineering Story’ on Disney+. It’s a really incredible series covering all sorts like the history and design of the parks, how they created Disneyland in California and the park in China, developing rides and animatronics, behind the scenes for several rides and all sorts really.
